This looks terrible, and the warning signs thus far aren’t very encouraging. I understand there was flack upon Spider-Man for the PS4 first reaction, but this is another animal entirely. Insomniac’s debut actually had gameplay to show, while this had a odd approach focusing on the story/actors. And I think that’s the big issue here; they’re selling it like a movie. The creators of Spider-Man wanted to make you feel like you’re the character, whereas here it’s Square wanting to just tell a story (probably just to hop on the MCU bandwagon).
Furthermore, the concept itself is a challenge. They claim you’ll play as several Avengers but in theory that sounds like a erratic and unfocused gaming experience given how vastly different each should play. I just don’t see polished controls and instead expect QTEs everywhere.
I’m personally not looking forward to it, and glad it’s not connected to Spider-Man, but I’m interested in hearing your thoughts. Will the Avengers game live up to what they claim?
I'm just waiting for the gameplay, only then I can be sure whether if this will be good or not.
Kevin Allen
I get that, but there admittedly was very quick and you’ll miss it gameplay in that trailer that wasn’t very encouraging. A lot of it looked like it was on the rails, kind of like those Ratchet and Clank HALO jumps where you dodge missiles. But it’s still too early to tell
Insomniac made a good Spider-Man by combining every element from movies, shows, comics, and even other developers games. I don't the Avengers can achieve the same homogenization, because there really isn't much outside the Disney stuff they can pull from that normalfags would go, 'Oh hey, I remember that.' youtube.com/watch?v=U1QUNuC5IWc youtube.com/watch?v=4dGgzDldrMs

From the 25 minutes of gameplay description it sounds you play as certain Avengers during specific story driven parts, but for the most part you can play as any off the Avengers and each of them has their own skill trees you level up and unlock abilities. Other Avengers on your team are either AI or another player depending if you’re doing co-op or not.
Ryder Sanchez
But that sounds like a shit show given the 4 player drop in/out co-op. This is demanding a destructive environment for Hulk, but at the same time allows Widow to run around at the exact same time and fight goons?
Bentley Sanchez
Doesn’t sound that any different from the Ultimate Alliance games mixed with a bit of Marvel Heroes, wrapped in a package that might play like a hack n slash like DMC or MGS Revengence
Caleb Long
But UA is a party based Diablo type game where it doesn’t really matter what the terrain or characters are. I don’t think you understand what a tall order this is.
Personally I just want character focused games. Fully fleshed out gameplay that plays to their style
Zachary Ramirez
I do agree with you though
Still waiting for a solo Doctor Strange RPG so I can do shit like gif related
There’s actually a goldmine of potential if done right. Spider-Man excelled because Insomniac came to SONY and wanted to do it. However the sad truth is that not every dev is as committed. Imagine; >A Captain America game like Wolfenstein >Metal Gear Black Widow >Resident Evil meets Ultimate Destruction Hulk >Batman Arkham meets Ace Attorney Daredevil And so on
Jace Barnes
I'll give it a chance. There's a high possibility they'll make some changes to the models and textures between now and launch.
Insomniac made a good Spider-Man game by just making a good single-player game. Crystal Dynamics trying to turn Avengers into a AAA cinematic games-as-service game is just too much.
Aaron Johnson
But that’s only a minor issue in retrospect. The bigger concern is the lack of gameplay, almost as if they’re reluctant to show anything and instead hoping the IP sells itself. Mix that with the long production history and it’s red flags everywhere
Carter Carter
That’s pretty expected. I just want a gameplay trailer, though. I feel they were just trying to hype by showing cinematics, so we’ll see.
Jordan Bennett
>lack of gameplay They showed gameplay in the trailer user. >long production history Two years is not long
Bigger concern is no Carol anywhere yet
Blake Cox
2 years is indeed a fairly short cycle, i’ll be fine with it taking longer. Rushed games always end up shitty.
Christopher Sullivan
>They showed gameplay in the trailer user. It looked like shit though. It was a fucking linear roller coaster ride of nonsense explosions.
Owen Scott
What gameplay? You mean the Iron Man rail shooter? They’re banking hard on the characters/story because they know the game itself is just overly cinematic garbage with very little input from the player
Adam Taylor
Please god no

It is blowing my mind that Marvel is not trying to milk an action RPG game based off Doctor Strange.
There’s so much you can build of from the different spells and incantations to the plethora of other dimensions a realms Doctor Strange has traversed in the comics.
The Sanctum Sanctorum is the perfect video game central hub too. Where you access the story missions, side missions, building your skill tree, different game modes, etc.
