It's odd that they're still bothering with a contemporary take on this when the main problem was that McGruder couldn't had it like he did in the comic in two ways, first with TV executives, and the second issue was time. The "dated" feeling of a comic was less since McGruder could just read about shit, and draw it, but the productions time for shows just kills that buffer.

A reboot is necessary because contemporary America has changed over the past few years. McGruder wants to juxtapose Trump Era America's anxiety with the suburbs becoming more urban due to blacks and hispanics moving out of the cities to places like Long Island, PA, NC, SC, and so on.

Except now he can add in characters like a middle aged white lady, or really nerdy bearded white guy named Doug that hates all white people and complains about the damn white people over and over again. Pissing off Ruckuss.

Boondocks was made for a very specific point in time, and I doubt it will be able to adapt.

Huey is supposed to be an over the top parody of black supremacists. The cartoons toned down the political views and wrote him more like Naota from FLCL: a kid who acts like an adult to be mature, but is still too young.

Boondocks is simply too savage for it's own good.

It also helped that it came out in 2005, a time when white suburban normies were imitating all things pop ghetto culture was at an all time high. Lots of gold chains, gold teeth, spinning rims by suburban upper middle class white people was everywhere.

I'm honestly worried. Boondocks was a show kinda tailored for the mid-2000s. When you could get away with saying more stuff and the world wasn't so diametrically opposed. It wasn't story driven per say, but there were a lot of themes and character arcs that carried over from each season. Also S4 was such an insult to the series that I can't blame them for wanting to reboot it. I'd rather it just stay dead altogether tbqh.
