>There has been ripe speculation for some time that a reboot of The Boondocks was on the way. These rumors were amplified by claims from star John Witherspoon in a recent interview.
>Now, it has been officially announced that the show will come back with series creator Aaron McGruder. According to the show's home studio, Sony, it will be “a complete re-imagining” of the show “for the modern era." The news was announced by Sony at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.
It's odd that they're still bothering with a contemporary take on this when the main problem was that McGruder couldn't had it like he did in the comic in two ways, first with TV executives, and the second issue was time. The "dated" feeling of a comic was less since McGruder could just read about shit, and draw it, but the productions time for shows just kills that buffer.
Brayden Cooper
Absolute based, redpilled, and blessed
Aaron Garcia
A reboot is necessary because contemporary America has changed over the past few years. McGruder wants to juxtapose Trump Era America's anxiety with the suburbs becoming more urban due to blacks and hispanics moving out of the cities to places like Long Island, PA, NC, SC, and so on.
Gavin Gonzalez
Except now he can add in characters like a middle aged white lady, or really nerdy bearded white guy named Doug that hates all white people and complains about the damn white people over and over again. Pissing off Ruckuss.
>Ruckus gets a rival >A scathing critique of self-flagellating white people
Julian Edwards
>Huey tries to organize a freedom rally to discuss African American rights in America today and how they can overcome the system that is built against them >Only pic related shows ups for it >They start calling Huey racist for not including more LBGT representation and not also raising awareness for Latinx in America too >Huey is kicked out of the group due to pics of him eating at a Taco Bell with Riley and his grandfather spread on twitter, causing everyone to shout how he was culturally appropriating proud Latin culture by eating there >Huey is replaced by a white guy that identifies as an African American who demands reparations >Episode ends with Huey leaving all social media
Ah yes I can't wait for the inevitable CalArts/Family Guy Ripoff art style

Boondocks was made for a very specific point in time, and I doubt it will be able to adapt.
Mason Williams
Huey is supposed to be an over the top parody of black supremacists. The cartoons toned down the political views and wrote him more like Naota from FLCL: a kid who acts like an adult to be mature, but is still too young.
Christopher Hernandez
Boondocks is simply too savage for it's own good.
Xavier Jackson
It also helped that it came out in 2005, a time when white suburban normies were imitating all things pop ghetto culture was at an all time high. Lots of gold chains, gold teeth, spinning rims by suburban upper middle class white people was everywhere.
and the entertainment industry was really promoting pop ghetto culture as a major mainstream thing.
Kevin Nguyen
This is already kino, but how can we fit uncle Ruckus in here?
Evan Gray
I hope you weren't being ironic because that's a great idea
Sebastian Evans
Rap Music in 2005 had traded it's gangster elements in favor of being club music or high end fashion.
Lincoln Wright
>Boondocks was made for a very specific point in time You are incredibly naive to think the things that were talked about the show 10 years ago aren't relevant now.
why the fuck do they all make the same facial expression?
Daniel Howard
>It's a grandad discovers social media episode
Brandon Campbell
YouTube videos spread of the rally, having Ruckus narrate over the footage on how the monkeys are too lazy to even show up to a rally about them. The whites chimp out and make a bunch of videos calling Ruckus out. He makes another and gives them a place and time. The whites are ready to lynch the faceless man in the video then find themselves at a standstill when they realize Ruckus' complexion.
Sometimes Yea Forums has better ideas than what is actually shat out, almost like /tg/.
Ethan Ward
Hey guys, remember when the the little niglet with the Afro said that Jesus was black?
Remember how he was basically an author avatar for the creator's own thoughts on black people?
Mason Perry
Jesus, user. That's the perfect episode one. Aaron, is that you?
Carter Evans
rucks was at first 100% against all of it and made one man countrprotests. By the end of the episode he is the only one left that will still talk to Huey.
Nolan Hall
fo you think theres a chance for Black Dynamite now?
Benjamin White
based white man
William Hernandez
this goes against everything boondocks was. gross.
Jeremiah Garcia
>huey supports trump because he wants the system to crash and burn >nobody cares for the why >real world 'pop culture pundits' loses their minds
Julian Long
Wasnt he basically just told to shut up in later seasons?
Season 4 I heard was partly done by Aaron. Its best to still be kind of skeptical. That said I'd be down for more comics.
Riley should have a react channel, Gramps should have an instagram account, and Huey should have a podcast.
Nathaniel Bennett
its not an idea, its fucking IRL which is the sad part.
Jonathan Smith
It'd be interesting if Riley grows up to be like Tom Dubois, I mean Cindy McPhearson is basically Sarah
Adrian Gray
I don't think Huey would support Trump, so much as mock his detractors for being self-righteous reactionaries who only care about the end result of a system that has been cannibalizing itself for almost as long as it's been implemented. Like "where was this righteous fury when Bush stole the 2000 election, or when Wall Street sold out America"?
Ayden Carter
Huey probably would have stroked out during the 2016 election considering how the Democrat party treated Bernie before putting Hillary on the docket
Christopher Cox
Yeah, that's pretty good. But there is still one question that wasn't answered when the show ended and needs a final answer Was it rape?
>why the fuck do they all make the same facial expression?
That isn't true at all. If you notice the majority of them display the upwards and out classic basedboi facial position, the kind that makes their expression 'pop'
Where as others that are a little more spicy and risque tend to go for that Dreamworks look of basedboi face.
And finally in this collaboration of expressions we can even see the "I'm a nice guy" tilt of the brows into obtuse angles as shown by the two men in the top right corner.
Isaiah Hall
so couldnt they do a time jump? or an episode exploring the changes?
John Anderson
Technically Tom wasn't in control of his body when she fucked him so yes. Sarah raped him.
Chase Lewis
Just because mcgruder is involved doesn't mean it will be good. Black Jesus was an unfunny train wreck. Are any other veteran staff working on it?
William Hill
they already did that with myspace
Easton Robinson
how so?
Lucas Thomas
>Hating on Black Jesus Fucking what?
Michael Fisher
I'm honestly worried. Boondocks was a show kinda tailored for the mid-2000s. When you could get away with saying more stuff and the world wasn't so diametrically opposed. Now he'll be stuck between a rock and a hard place cuz the lefties will be up in arms for any sort of criticism for colored people or commentary that points out african americans long lived homophobia, and the right will probably get all pissed if he dares to insinuate that he hates the president or think white man bad, which are two things the show has always said. Damned if you do damned if you don't.
Blake Perez
he should just go all-in and piss everyone off
Isaiah Miller
>When you could get away with saying more stuff and the world wasn't so diametrically opposed You mean when more people were on one side more so than the other People have been saying the stuff they are saying now for a long time, you've just never paid attention to them before now
Really, what about the OG boondocks cartoon wouldn't fit in 2019? Black people act stupid sometimes, sometimes we make it, but there's still plenty left to fight for?
Landon Young
Weren't people up in arms about it when it originally aired?
Jaxson Bennett
Yea Forums will disown the show the second it says anything bad about Trump. Screencap this.
He was very transparently an author mouthpiece, as was the whole series. That didn't make it bad.
Camden Miller
Yes. He's testing the waters here. Thanks for the feedback.
Michael Young
... I'd unironically enjoy this. The possibilities for hilarious dialogue are limitless.
Ayden Turner
i don't care if they'd do that per se. the problem is that it's hard to do that in a way that isn't hackneyed like what a lot of things do. it's like making bush jokes in 2007 but cranked up to 11 because of social media time preference.
Landon Stewart
>Someone points out that he's white as fuck. >He responds that he has "super vitiligo", kinda like what poor Michael Jackson had except "way worse".
It wasn't story driven per say, but there were a lot of themes and character arcs that carried over from each season. Also S4 was such an insult to the series that I can't blame them for wanting to reboot it. I'd rather it just stay dead altogether tbqh.
Kevin Barnes
>Uh-huh?! See! I told you! >There ain't nothin' you monkeys won't take for granted. Voting. Civil Rights. The gracious white man giving you darkies a helpin' hand! >Some system you're fighting. Niggers get a freebie and you manage to fuck it up, just like all of the white man's gifts. >Oh sure. It broke my heart at foist, but I guess a white man pretending to be a coon is better than a real coon any day of the week.
that's when you reach the point that you say "fuck it" and let it all out
Ayden Martin
>suburbs becoming more urban So the show is unironically going to be more niggerish instead of making parodies poking fun at them
Ryder Hall
Best of luck. Focus on the kids, cut down on grandad.
Luke White
That would be too perfect. Now it's not going to happen.
Or poking fun at how a caricature of "black culture" has become so widely accepted and adapted by suburbanites.
Cooper Hughes
>black culture Just the mention of such a phrase leaves a bad taste in my mouth considering what it's done to modern culture today, and the kids are most affected by it
Lucas Edwards
Thanks Uncle Ruckus.
Josiah Hall
The biggest controversies I remember the show having was regarding the BET and the Tyler Perry episodes. Apparently Tyler Perry was so assblasted by the show's depiction of him, he got the episode pulled off of tv.
Jackson Miller
>starring Uncle Ruckus as Trump
I can't wait for le racist confederate man to praise Trump as his fuhrer despite the fact that Trump has literally dated black women in the past and we all know how much Ruckus hates shit like that. I also look forward to Trump being drawn as Ed Wuncler but wearing a blonde wig, comically orange and choking down a mountain of cheeseburgers with grease and drool and chunks of meat dribbling down his chin while he screams at Jared to do everything. Because what would Boondocks be without such a "comical" portrayal?
William Martin
> announced by Sony
so it won’t be on [as]?
Jayden Martin
Unclear
>have never been able to watch the BET one >only know it exists because my black fren linked some of the clips to me once
Brody Nelson
Was that the episode where Grandad opens a Soul Food joint, or the one with MLK?
Yea Forums is almost as bad as reddit coming up with original material.
Hunter Sanders
You are replying to one of Yea Forums's many tripfags
Hunter Price
Remember episode 1 where Huey, the author mouthpiece, said a bunch of controversial things to suburban white people, but they literally didn't understand any of it? Yeah, a lot of people are those white people.
There's going to be an episode about the concentration camps full of children and you still won't care about it because you prefer the comfort of your Republican lies to facing the truth and doing the right thing.
>There's going to be an episode about the concentration camps full of children
They already did that, it was the episode in the Freedomland episode, which was a slavery theme park. Imagine how much butthurt that episode would generate now, when people would whine that it's SJW propaganda against the president's immigration policies.
Our Cartoon President has fast turnaround. It went from manly flash animation to slightly less jankey full on television show animation. Fast turnaround now. Trump news goes directly into the show in about 6 months
Christopher Evans
Just read one of your conservacuck echochamber webcomics, it'd be the exact same thing.
"HE'S MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, AND ALL YOU DO IS COMPLAIN!"
Samuel Reyes
OOOOH YEAH
Jacob Foster
>Huey is moe now Jesus Christ are they rebooting the rest of the Boondocks in this moe anime style now?
Parker Long
So... basically the first show hit too clowe to home and was too redlilled on the issues in the black community so we have to undo that by making a version that spends each episode bashing Trump?
Jaxon Martin
"Uncle Ruckus, when was america even great?"
Zachary Taylor
I forgot about that great show. Adult swim seemed to have had alot of genuinely good black shows, unlike anywhere else devoted to such a thing.
Carson King
The truth is that youtube's guidelines to getting a lot of views say "put a big wacky reaction face in your thumbnail" and people that that want to meme decided it meant something more.
Jordan Sanchez
Too bad we won't be able to discuss it here.
Justin Hernandez
Someone has got to take the site back from the chuds.
Ruckus gets super pissed off at the white guy demeaning reparations, and calls him out for pretending to be another race than he actually is. The irony is completely lost on him
Daniel Jenkins
It's common knowledge that monkeys only smile to show off their teeth
Jose Lee
I can hear him perfectly. I can see the despair in Huey's face.
>despair *disappointment. Huey's too disillusioned at this point to be anything else
Jeremiah Davis
Why not?
Nathan Williams
It was funny before because it was a different time. Now we have extreme left and extreme right. So much that that white people now take on white guilt and on the other side we got extreme racist that think white genicide is a thing and they must fight for the future of their species.
Christian Cruz
Top left is just normal smiling.
Eli Myers
There were some recent comics where huey was just reiterating CNN talking points about Trump his views on the president will be very mainstream
Jackson Sullivan
Fuck you, Ruckus. That was fantastic.
Ayden Turner
Kawaii
Ian Reed
Yes it is
Isaiah Gray
When was this posted?
Kevin Lopez
>niggabayo Kek
Jayden Murphy
So I guess the reboot will draw inspiration from the video game Aaron wanted to do?
Hudson Baker
>BET i don't even know what it is beyond a general description of lowest of the low black-geared television but that shit was hilarious
Deborah Leevil is a stroke of genius given form
Benjamin Hughes
Fucking please. McGruder's hate for BET is nothing but salt after getting his show rejected. Black people don't watch political cartoons. Big fucking deal.
Reminder that the premise for the Boondocks reboot has been set in stone for awhile. Even with Ruckus becoming a government figure ruling Woodcrest.
Dominic Long
"During Slavery"
Isaac Rodriguez
So will Uncle Ruckus just be in charge of the whole Woodcrest?
Zachary Ramirez
>Huey, Riley, Robert and Sarah look ready for war >Tom and Sarah looking like bitches Nothing changes.
Joshua Morris
I'm guessing the "reboot" idea is just to wipe season 4 from existence, I'm fine with that
Parker Fisher
this combined with, "look at how quirky i am making this dumb facial expression."
Ethan Murphy
Pretty much. Also to help McGruder jack off to his video game idea.
Logan Thompson
Because white culture has been so illustrious these past couples years, right?
Tyler Hill
wouldn't he prefer the pre-slavery period, when the soil was untouched by the porch monkeys?
Zachary Robinson
God bless Uncle Ruckus. I hope he finds a cure for that damn re-vitiligo affliction.
Alexander Young
how many episodes till it apologizes for the "what if MLK came back today" episode of the original?
Michael Butler
I noticed his new strips are particularly cute- I wonder if the show will be cuter too...
Parker Hughes
Fuck
All of /pol/ and Yea Forums are going to do the same "Woe is me, all white people are being eradicated!" song and dance with each episode of this show now too
