Ostrander did an arc that had a government agent tracking down and asking the surviving members of the JSA about The Spectre. The general conclusion that he was a sad, depressed loner who barely interacted with any of them.

The executives and suits decided to do a hard reboot in 2011, and every book got cancelled. Morrison and Johns still had pull, so their ongoing stories continued (despite everything else getting rebooted).
Didio did an interview around that time about how the JSA are now retired as a concept, and revealed that there would be an Earth-2 book that would feature young and new versions of the JSA. I can't find that interview right now, but can find references to it in other articles.

Eh, I'd have to look up the numbers, but the various writers who had been on it since Johns left were not very good. There were a couple really dumb stories that I can remember, including Alan getting his neck broken and looking like a literal lantern.
I think people forget about how terrible many books were becoming around early 2011.

Why make Alan gay? Just make Obsidian more visible. The guy was one of the strongest gays in comics and pretty much when he goes nuts (thanks to his powers) the only person who can stop him is his father.

After the delays, DC basically canned the whole thing with Doomsday Clock wrapping up Rebirth and tieing in with the rest of the books. It was supposed to be set a year in the future but nothing will tie into it now.

It's clearly the restored to the main continuity timeline JSA in the forties after Manhattans alterations to remove them are fixed.

From what I've heard the justice League thing here is guess appearance, With Snyder's ongoing with them being set in the forties, with him saying he's excited to be writing their first missions and origins.

Who knows what maybe going on with their present day counterparts( I'd be okay with most of them being deceased and represented in the present by their legacies with Jay, Alan, and Ted Grant as the remaining veterans,but using the ragnarok dimension as out of aging card could be an option.)

Oh and Hawkman is the same guy do to reincarnation, and Kent Nelson is alive thanks to magic at least until the end of the current JLD arc.
