I really like Boyega but I just don't think he's right for the role. He's really naturally funny, but in a much more 'conventional' way, I guess. Snipes in that movie has lots of humour, too, but it's in a kind of Nicholas-Cage-weird sort of way where he's acting so odd, but has the intense charisma to pull it all off. I dunno. I could be surprised, but I just don't see it.

It's probably coming from Boyega himself, wanting to have a more serious/masculine role. Being in Star Wars is cool, but Finn is a little bitch of a character. I doubt he wants to get type cast into weaker male roles.
But just look at him. He looks like a literal cartoon character. There's no way you can see that face and take him seriously. A black guy can get away with big lips, but then he either has to look tough/ugly for them to not look goofy or if he's really good looking he can manage to make them look sensual. Boyega is neither. He just looks like one of those racist cartoon stereotypes.
