Personally don’t think so, one of my favorite shows from this decade

Yes

It’s pretty good. It certainly has flaws but the good outweighs the bad.

Personally I think It's awful, an example of everything wrong with cartoons from this decade.

fpbp
>inb4 "stfu stevenfags

Is good, the issue is that is somehow overrated and underrated.
People hyped it up to Oblivion and now people hate it to hell, is really not as great nor as bad.

Passing is god tier bad.

Yes, it looks too compressed

Is calarts a real thing or is a term retards came up with?

Why is that weird? Obnoxious fan bases ruin shit all the time.

John K came up with it to describe the Iron Giant.
Years later people brought it back to describe thundercats roar!, And it got worse when the RCDart drama happened and people discovered they were currently on CalArts and their style got worse, not knowing that happened due to a fetish and not the place itself.

Nowadays is either a buzzword used for normies or a meme that can actually be quite funny, it's not a real term but it's used to describe the trend style of the 2010's just like how UPA is used to describe the sharp thick line geometric shapes of the 90's.

pretty much this It probably had some meaning but people then used the term for just about anything

Who is RCDart and what was the drama?

>to describe thundercats roar
it was first brought back to describe adventure time, which was basically the beginning of the 2010s

It's practically the embodiment of the gay agenda but it's a sweet and entertaining show.

its good, a lot of skippable bullshit and def peaked too early

It's not the worst show ever, not even the worst cartoon thsee past few years, but it's still pretty bad. The show just has far too many problems in general to be considered good.
>inconsistent animation past season 1 that ranges between passable to godawful
>even worse boarding that can barely move past a shot reverse shot and can't decide what fucking height the characters are
>aimless direction; it can't decide whether it wants to be a comedy, SoL, Space Opera, drama, etc. It tries to be a jack of all trades but it fails at most of that
>inconsistent tone that is all over the place. You can have slapstick comedy and serious drama in the same episode leaving severe whiplash
>show wants to tackle mature themes but isn't clever enough to know how to actually handle them, making the themes they try to address either undercooked or just flat-out ignored once brought up
>the "Rose is Pink Diamond" subplot is one of the worst twists I've seen in a while, and since the show relies on it to work it really shows just how flawed this show is on a fundamental level
It feels like the only reason people say it's good is because they WANT it to be good. It has a lot of potential, but it consistently squander that potential through a myriad of ways.

Attached: 1555657484822.jpg (508x428, 46K)

Watch it yourself and find out. It’s probably better to form your own opinion instead of asking others

No, because adventure time was sort of the one that started the trend of the 2010's.
Being technical, it started with Star Vs, but back then it was a more niche thing, it blew up with Thundercats Roar!

RCDart is an artist that used to be pretty popular in art spaces, particularly twitter and tumblr. They made sfw and nsfw, and their old style (like 2015) was super good.

They made a nsfw account on tumblr in. 2016? I think? and they had a particular fetish: Transgender men with visible tits, because of this every draw they did started to get more and more deformed, making the chest bigger, making lines rounder, making everything more exaggerated, to the point where their new art style was simple doodles of shapes, seeing their style go through a downward spiral due to their fetishization was super sad, their style was pretty cool.

They got called out for their transgender fetish a few months later, and after that, for drawing racist caricatures, and because of how mad ugly their new style is they became a huge meme, this guy actually made every single community bond, Yea Forums loathes them, tumblr loathes them, Reddit loathes them, is rare seeing anyone even defend the bastard.

What do you mean "that bad"? Its a pretty bad cartoon with bad plot, character, animation and storytelling, but all of them have been done worse elsewhere. Like the constant stops and lack of tension in serious moments is bad, but I never got the idea it was as bad as Voltron, when people literally seem to forget they're about to die on several occasions. Sure, the animation is shit, but as bad as it is I never thought it was as bad as something like Mucha Lucha or something. Of course the main character is annoying, but never as annoying as Korra was. The messages are pretty stupid but at least its not the worse episodes of Captain Planet.

Its bad enough I can confidently say its not worth a watch but not so bad if someone was interested I'd tell them to avoid it like the plague, and hey, at least its an original property so its not like any of the numerous remakes or reboots plaguing the rest of the animation sector. Everything about it is sub par, but at least its not She-Ra. No matter how bad this gets, just remember... it could be She-Ra.

Here's another comparison.
I used to be a huge fan, their style changed so much in so little time that seeing it all go down was a wild fucking ride.

It's a funny meme nowadays, to be fair, and I think they're still studying in CalArts, last thing I knew someone wrote "Racist" in one of their works and I think someone pointed out that they stole the plot of some Steven Universe porn fanfiction.

Attached: 1515311520548.png (389x626, 94K)

People were telling me it was the worst sow to be put on tv

So a group of people made those pieces of art?

Every plot episode is broken up by two townie fillers, written by a literal retard

Nope, one person.
Rory, i think is how they go by in the internet.

Oh, user used their and they to describe the person

Forgot to mention the worst part about the show, the stupid, stupid, STUPID rule about the show always being in Steven's POV. It limits so much about the show and what it's capable of, and it's annoying how he needs to be show horned into everything.

It's the leading example of what happens when pushing agendas and messages take precedence over telling a story.

They has been used to describe a singular person of unknown gender since Shakespeare. Please practice your english.

I just figured that when you refer to one person you would use their gender but my bad

I watched it entirely to compare it to HnK.

It started out meh. Steven was a complete shit for the first half of the first season. Things got good following that, but the later seasons have become muddled by an obvious lack of vision. It runs on the worst aspects of rule of cool now where it all falls apart if you're not blindly invested.

Attached: 1548210992356.jpg (1278x1633, 176K)

Who has the better one?

Attached: BUTTS.png (1612x930, 767K)

Peridot, next

Steven, next

It might be for them? Not everyone has seen every show. Or maybe the pros of say, Voltron or Korra's vastly superior worldbuilding, animation and action were enough to make them put SU lower, maybe it was the unique combination of being bad in every area but not the worst that made it seem worse, like there just wasn't a good thing to stick to.

Or maybe they haven't seen She-Ra, because most people haven't seen She-Ra, and that's just a great thing.

Ok, I'll bite. Why is She-Ra so bad?

"Calarts" is what came here to replace "Bauhaus"
It basically means cartoony, something that is to simple, to geometric and goofy, easy to draw, etc.

Attached: Maurecia as a princess.png (814x568, 464K)

Everything listed about SU being bad, the bad and inconsistent animation, the terrible action, the shitty worldbuilding, the lack of tension in serious moments, the characterization being absolute shit to the point where they don't even reveal why the main antagonist is mad at the protagonist until the second season, and she's constantly featured in the first. The plotholes are massive, the entire moral dilemma of the show is resolved in one conversation, every character is so stupid to the point where not only did the heroes set up a tent closeby to an armed fortress, they put it in direct view of it and then played a game while the villains whinged about it for the episodes duration. Characters regress every other episode, with the worst offender being the fat pink one who literally regresses immediately after being kidnapped, tortured, and in her stupidity got one of her friends "Killed"(She's of course fine, there's no actual threat in this show and nothing makes sense)

Everything you think is bad about SU is worse in She-Ra.

I used to really dug this show, and even in the later seasons it did things that reminded me why I liked it so much. So that's a "no", from me.

I like it. It's charming. Charming garbage.

>Kino background OST
>Waifus, everywhere, just an entire race of them
>Male characters that are allowed to have sex

Nah. It's pretty damn decent.

Fair enough

The best kind

I don't have much to add besides that Connie has great taste in computer games and therefore Steven has great taste in girlfriends.

Attached: a52.png (1920x1080, 3.52M)

Those would be the games she would play

How so? Give me a run down the list.

Those pics

I wish steven could have like 50 fewer monologues that say the same thing, especially during the later episodes

>blew up with thundercats roar
pls
this meme has been around for years, like literally a decade
you could and should say that it had several moments of blowing up, like release of gravity falls, redesign of steven universe which still is a prime example of a show design being calartsified, gumball redesigns which got progressively commodified
rcd is a literally who nobody and honestly, sounds like a bad attemt at promo where none should be given. this thing with people going to calarts and getting worse is so common, none of these hacks deserve to be singled out and named specifically, fuck all of them but also you

Are you Lily? Based either way.

I only started watching it for the first time this past week and only getting to season 3 now. Everything I knew about it was from passing glances at these threads and I honestly expected to hate it. I hated the art style and I couldn't see the appeal even from clips people would post from their favorite moments.
But I don't know if it's because my expectations were so low going in or not but I actually don't think it's bad at all. Like, I actually like it. A lot.
I expected it to be one of those series that's a slog until it hits a point where it "gets good" but season 1 has been the most solid first seasons of any show I've watched in a long time, there's only one bad episode (27 - House Guest) and that's primarily because it looks like ass-- It was so offensive to the eyes I had to skip it halfway through. But otherwise, I'm loving it.
I guess I haven't watched enough of the later seasons for it to retroactively taint my opinion but this shit's alright.

I thought these were common complaints

>Connie is saluting her Diamond like a good Pearl

It's a buzzword to discredit cartoon creators, it's basically the animation equivalent of calling someone a jew

They are. Lily is just a special snowflake.

Why would you compare it to hokuto no ken?

No, actually it's pretty good.

Billy Pete is not my lover. >She's just a >girl who claims that I am the one.

Yes. It's cancer.

Some good episodes, tons to filler junk

Worst part about it is the 11 minute run time that fucks over every climax and resolution it could have. Even when they set aside 4 epeisodes to an event theys still gotta make sure the climax is at 7 mintutes into the last episode and only give 3 minutes to resolution of every fucking problem in the show.

Other than that... s'alright.

No, these criticism are actually good and warranted.

It's simply painfully mediocre.

It could be very good, it honestly could. The show itself had all the elements to make a great cartoon.

However with each season it became completely obvious that the crew had literally no fucking idea on how to write for shit, so not only the pacing was awful, the entire plot became bordeline retarded, and most characters became caricatures.

tl;dr Starts out promising, progressively devolves into shit

The lore is pretty good, like it was made by a different person from the staff and it was planned for a space opera. And that's the reason I keep watching it.

The show itself is pretty mediocre. The first season is quiet good, but everything from jailbreak is mediocre and its best besides some episodes like Familiar and That would be all.

Sidenote, I love this little dork.

Like Adventure Time, another case of disintegrating leadership from a spineless creator.

>liking S1 SU best
Come on, why don't you tell us that cookie cat rap is your favorite song and early Steven was funny and cute

your shit taste is showing

It has most of the best moments in the show, like Rose's Scabbard. Also the giant woman episode was pretty good too. There were hints in the backgrounds about the lore like in adventure time, but with the time it was clear that the crew didn't know what to do with it.
I would say wasted potential, but nah. The crew had a good premise but they are just mediocre artists.

Attached: 155305917227.png (708x819, 148K)

I want to watch HnK, but the fans of that show are obnoxious as fuck, like entering a bar but it's filled with kids screaming. Also I can't stand weak waifubait and that's what most of them just talk about.

That episode was beautiful.

>it blew up with Thundercats Roar!
We talked about the CalArts for years before that. That one .gif with the morphing beanheads of Gumball, Steven, etc was made in 2017. Thundercats Roar just looked like such a parody of what was being made fun of that it flared Yea Forums's autism.

I liked it, but I like trash. Why do you think I'm here?

The show itself isn't that bad, but the fanbase is cancer.

Then again, you could say about just everything from Harry Potter to President Trump.

Attached: George RR Martin vs his own fanbase.gif (300x200, 554K)

>the obese balding retarded New Yorker who lost a billion dollars in a growth economy isn't that bad
Nice bait.

MotU fans are pretty based, so are GIJoe fandoms, that said those fandoms don't look at their media as some deep message or religion

I see you learned how to make that bait too

Attached: Skip_Bait_01.jpg (932x518, 298K)

Its a special kind of bad where they do EVERYTHING wrong multiple times through its lifespam, but at the same time, at some point, they did everything right at least once or twice for every subject, its amazing really, you can almost see a shadow of quality pretty much everywhere that gets you saying "Yes, i get what you're trying to do here, that's great", its very soulcrushing knowing the next episode, or even the very next scene will completely fuck everything up that they might have built up

Attached: 1545018147101.jpg (164x234, 41K)

All I said were the facts. How the fuck do you lose a billion dollars in a growth economy?

I feel like you are just asking for that one picture that was going around last year. I'm not gonna give it to you.

>investments occasionally don't pan out

Imagine my shock.

It's bad

Brief glimmers of excellence amid a sea of mediocrity and hiatuses.

ITT: Vague hyperbole and zero actual examples

When a show is defined by constant suffering, the fans will reflect it

It's good in its scope and ambitions, but overrated in its execution. This is because of how heavily influenced it was by anime.

I appreciate the mix of action, plot arcs, and especially melodrama. It's the kind of things audiences clamor for, but network fear for dumb reasons. But it doesn't do any of those things particularly well, and isn't original to people who regularly watch anime. That's the paradox of Steven Universe. It is simultaneously groundbreaking and derivative, the answer changes depending on whether you use western or eastern metrics. It speaks more to the gaps in our cartoons, that an average show with the right priorities can build such a large fan base.

No. But it could be better.

I mean, I fucking love this show, but I understand how people could dislike or even hate it.

So, who did it better?

yes, it's worse than you probably imagine, BECAUSE it's actually quite good at parts. it cultivates near-limitless potential in the first two seasons, which you then get to see pointedly, undeniably DELIBERATELY wasted in the second half of the show, culminating in undoubtedly the worst ending of any long-running TV series in years.

SUfags haven't watched anything else. That's why fans of this show toss it into the pits of hell with the likes of Johnny Test after a couple fuckups.

They did nothing but live, breathe and sleep Steven Universe, for the past 6 years.

Attached: bd1550116236733.png (530x706, 316K)

This.

Watch Mr.Greg and maybe two other episodes and call it a day.

I can guarantee you that, I’m a former SU fan. I was one if those retards, just loving the show and thinking that everything else sucked.

Eventually the weird kid at school who watches Hentai convinced me to try South Park, from there I began recovery from mental retardation. Eventually I started watching other cartoons and thought to myself “and I loved that shitshow more than anything else, good thing now I watch better cartoons”

It has highs and lows. It's better than average and at the very least you should do yourself a favor and listen to the soundtrack

Then I guess I am not an SUfag.

I still like it.

More fool you.

That's... a really odd choice of an episode.

Mirror Gem, The Return, and Jailbreak are mandatory (The Return is honestly a bit better than Jailbreak). I could go on, just because most of season 1 is perfect save for Tiger Millionare.

Friend Ship, Super Watermelon Island, Gem Drill, Beta, Earthlings, Steven's Dream/Gem Heist/That Will Be All, etc. The Trial arc where Aquamarine and Topaz kick everyone's asses.

Most of season 5 is also mandatory. Once you remove hiatuses in general there's not much reason to skip anything period.

Exactly what I mean though. Only the biggest faggots who became obsessed with the show got that angry in the first place that the show has been given so much bad word of mouth for no fucking reason.

Not bad. The filler episodes are kinda annoying, the more you get close to the finale it just gets unwatchable.
But it has some really good art, songs, and characters. If you like it, you will really like it. If you hate it, you will really hate it.

yeah
the first season was really good
the other season were fine to okay
the last season boy they real;ly shat the bed, ruined the whole thing imo

As bad as the ending was, it does not hold a fucking CANDLE to the absolute shitstorm the Star vs finale was.

>the last season boy they real;ly shat the bed, ruined the whole thing imo

Eh. It was rushed.

Maybe the season should have been a few episodes longer and ENDED with White Diamond sending Steven to his room.

I haven't really watched it past halfway the third season. I guess I'll have to now...

It's worth the watch and the read. The show mostly just for the music and how well it adapts certain scenes like the dog scene, but it stops just short of where the comic really begins to kick off. The two shows are compared a lot, but they're completely different beasts to the point it's easier to list their similarities than differences.

If you can ignore the fanbase, I know I did watching SU, the comic has a lot of meat to it with huge amounts of Buddhist lore. And, to be fair on the waifu stuff, the designs in the manga are noticeably more androgynous. Whereas the gems just look humanoid for reasons in SU, the gems in HnK have an established explanation that, unfortunately, wasn't reached in the show beyond vague hints here and there.

Sugar stop caring at the end of season 2, but she actually became kino again at the ending of season 4 until nowl

the last season sucked balls tho

If you're looking for a good trashfire, you definitely should. It drops the ball so hard it becomes the stuff of legends. It's honestly impressive just how badly it ends, with tons of fucked up implications the writers clearly put no thought into.

The show encourages trannies and faggots, which are inherently bad and must be purged as the scum of the earth

'Implications' are literally not a valid metric to judge any work by. Holy shit.

Fucking look at it. That pic was my first contact with the show. My reaction was "fucking seriously?" Three ugly gremlins and an ugly, obnoxious WEEPIE! kid. After watching over half of the series because I had nothing else to watch, my thoughts on it are only more complex variations of the initial reaction.
I was surprised the creator had enough lack of self awareness to present these eyesores to another person seriously, until I saw what she looks like irl and thinks is publically presentable.

As a animation fan I must admit I became a fan of animation because of Steven Universe. I do watched toons before but hadn't started discussing them online, looking for fanarts and fan theories until SU. Now I'm a actual animation fan and when you actually start watching cartoons you notice how bad really Is SU

It's not that bad, but it has some very glaring issues.

>poor pacing
>shitton of boring filler
>poorly written dialogue that expects you to re-interpret it into better dialogue
>incosistency, from character writing (ex, pearl eating) to all the laughable animation errors since nobody uses a reference chart
>Sucrose has even gloated about not using a reference chart as a good thing
>blatant favoritism to Garnet
>Ian, Sucrose's bf, has a goddamn self-insert as a reoccuring bg character
>hypocritical "morals" (Sadie relying on stockholm syndrome in that one episode was fine, the confusing subpoint on Steven wearing drag on stage, morality on Steven staying a permachild when Connie is growing up, the whole argument on making homeschooling look less intelligent than public schooling, the debate on whether fusing is a sex metaphor and if Jasper forcing fusion on Lapis was metaphorical rape or not, etc.)
>really inconsistent on whether the civilians take issue with seeing gems or not
>Kevin did nothing wrong and yet Steven and Connie act like he killed a puppy every time they see him
There's more but imo, the show is a 4/10 overall. 7/10 if you trimmed it down to only the good shit.
