From what I heard, this may have been a possible plot line. Supposedly had season 2 of the new Thundercats series been greenlighted. It would involve a time skip. Lion-O going off on a journey to find a way to defeat Mum-ra. When he comes back. He discovers that Thundra has changed, Mum-ra has turned Thundera into a war world conquering other planets for Mum-ra's new galactic kingdom, that Wilykit has grown up, Cheetara married Tygra, and the Thundercats had disbanded and gone into hiding. As the series would go own Lion-O and adult WilyKit would form a relationship and fall in love.
Lion-O certainly thinks one of them is.

The reboot would be a lot better if Lion-o was younger.
His crush on Cheetara/rejection would make more sense, Panthro's reluctance to trust his leadership would be founded, and his friendship with the twins would be more sensical.
