Green Lantern

I want to get into the Green Lantern.

What should I read to get the full experience?

Also just Green Lantern appreciation thread in general.

Just start with Morrison. Maybe read those Alan Moore shorts too.

Pretty much all GL stuff is fair game. If you feel confused or don't recognize the characters, just go along with it. It'll always play out by itself, and at the end of the arc, you'll know the characters by then. Try Morrisoustuff first, it's real fun

Anytging is fair game really, Johns or Morrison are good to start with

>What should I read to get the full experience?
just read everything desu. Silver Age GL is great, Bronze Age GL is great, the 90s started off kind of shitty but Emerald Twilight was an interesting event and Hal's stint as the Spectre is really cool, Johns' GL is great and now Morrison's is amazing so far

you can pretty much start wherever honestly, it's easy enough to find a Johns reading list if you want to start there since he modernized GL

He gets stomped by Alien X

My personal recommendation, in order:

Emerald Dawn
Emerald Twilight
Zero Hour
Final Night
GL: Rebirth (not to be mixed up with the recent rebirth)
All of Johns' run but if you really just want snip-its, you can jump to Sinistro Corps War and then Blackest night, but I would recommend the whole run and the Green Lantern Corps book that ran at the same time as Johns' run.

Don’t bring that mess up in here.

Final Night was wonderful

I heard Morrison's Green Lantern is the last ongoing big 2 comic he's going to do. Should check that out whenever you can.

Read Willworld. Its the best green lantern story.
Ganthet's Tale and Mosaic are fun too.

This, also, the KFC comics.

Did anyone else think that Tomar-Tu made a pretty good villain?

You could really feel the resentment coming off him in every panel.

How would a Pity Corps work anyway?

Was that during Renegade? Ive kinda forgot

It'd be the same thing as compassion, so the Indigo Tribe I guess.

>bitches to Jordan about being responsible
>crashes through a fucking window on the way out
My fucking sides.

it was after Renegade, it was part of Hal n Pals

Tomar Tu killed Romat Ru (a child murderer), tried to cover it up then people got all pissy when they found out and he joined the Darkstars

It was in "Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps", just after the Zod arc. It was called "Darkstar Rising".

Tomar-Tu snaps and vaporizes Romat-Ru, and is recruited into the Darkstars to go Punisher on various galactic villains.

I think it was in the story arc "Fracture". We needed more of that and less Hal and pals constantly dealing with universe ending threats. Those got really boring quickly.

good old Hal

You read my mind, mang. Nekron, Relic, the Anti-Monitor...for every Sinestro there's like three Giant Cosmic Asshole villains with no personality.

Thank God Morrison has got it right. Loving how it is just space cop antics with Hal.

Out of them all, my favorite giant cosmic asahole is Volthoom. Just look at him go

It's really imaginative too, with the Hammer Horror world and the Earth-Eating Shepard.

Volthoom was fun. In the Simon Baz/Jessica Cruz comics, they actually manage to give him a more human motive and a friendship with one of the Guardians. He's a Giant Cosmic Asshole, but a good one.

Earth Eating Shepard is probably my favourite so far.

Just as an add on to this, be aware that the first part of Zero Hour is building off an event no one cares about or likes. So if the stupid Waverider and Monarch shit turns you off, just power through it to get to the good shit.

I wouldn't be surprised if other writers rip that off or have others of his species show up. It was insanely creative.

I like how Hal Jordan does the "cocky hotshot" trope well. He does dumb and reckless things, but him being bullheaded is what makes him so strong since the rings run on willpower. He also does his best thinking on his feet.

>Hal Jordan – he's the anti-Batman. Batman has everything mapped out seven ways, while Hal will jump off a cliff and figure out how not to die on his way down.

He reminds me a lot of Joseph Joestar in many ways. Right down to thinking up plans on the spot and having them work completely in his favour.

This shit sounds like something Captain Hero would do.

>SAVE YOURSELVES!!

Hal's a really well-rounded character. I know people were mad that he replaced Kyle, but honestly Hal's my favorite GL.

Attached: Green-Lantern-DC-Rebirth-Hal-Jordan.jpg (1936x970, 666K)

Same, nothing against Kyle, but I just can’t get into him like I have Hal

>he replaced
I still don't see why we couldn't have both. Hal having Hal type adventures, Kyle having Kyle adventures. Even Guy and John having their kind of adventures (though comics John is boring as fuck). It's just fucking laziness and shit writing that we had to have one true Green Lantern and one true Flash around that time at the expense of everybody else.

So can anyone just make rings and give them out to their friends permanently? I was never quite sure how Sinestro made a permanent ring construct in this story.

Power Rings can do anything if the Willpower is there.

We DID have both, even when Johns GL was starting we had the Power of Ion mini, and Kyle starred in GLC and New Guardians after the new 52. He's had a solo or a starring role in a team book until very recently

it's just that once people had other options on the table it became clear writers had no idea what to do with Kyle

>Almost
Isn't he stronger than Superman? Or was that only Parallax Hal?

Well, it depends who’s writing, but generally, Hal, Barry and Clark are some of the most powerful heroes in DC

that's Hal's daydream of Superman, he wouldn't hype himself up that much

I liked the issues where Hal was transported to the future and mind wiped to be their leader during the silver age

I'm 99% certain we'll get Pol Manning in Morrison TGL, that kind of shit is up his alley

Morrison has gotta use Pol Manning at some point, practically confirmed

Zero Hour was dumb because Hal was in the right

Love this shit

This

How the hell does one even arrest a planet?

imagine Joseph getting a ring, any ring

Issue pls, I'm unfamiliar with silver age

The idea's first appearance was GL #8, an issue after Sinestro debuted

Basically they need a new solar director (which seems to be a pretty important position) but there aren't any suitable candidates in 5700 AD so they find Hal in the past and bring him to the future but pulling someone into the future fucks up their memories for just a moment

Attached: GL008SA-03.jpg (1100x1552, 576K)

When they look at Hal they're like "this guy fucks, let's have a girl pretend to date him because a chad like this is obviously not single" so they tell Iona Vane to pretend to be his girlfriend

Attached: GL008SA-04.jpg (1100x1546, 528K)

they yoink him to the future and tell him his name is actually POL MANNING, a cool space explorer dude

Attached: GL008SA-07.jpg (1100x1538, 516K)

he helps them beat up some lizard people and they send him back home, of course Iona wants the opportunity to tap that fine Hal ass but they send him off and she is left to pine over a dude she knew for an hour that can't remember she exists

Hal is just lucky like that!
