Already finished that Red Sonja book and damn, it was great. I pretty much pick up anything I see on sale by Mike Carey and he is yet to disappoint me, no exception here. Great story with lots of twists and some good stakes. Art was also really fucking great.
I have absolutely no clue what that even is. My only experience with Red Sonja is She-Devil with a Sword, Mark Russell's current run, which is good. And some Amy Chu issues I was never able to get through cause she SUUUUCKS
Andrew Ramirez
I the order of Hell on Earth but forgot to take a pic
> Plus 7 other exciting Dynamite Collections! if they won't even tell you what comics they are it's iffy. However $50 for 10 trades is a damn good deal. Up to you if you feel like gambling.

Just got a bonus at work so hopefully getting The Damned vol 3, Copra, and The Black Bettle
>what collections do you plan to complete within five years? >if you had to start over, what is one thing you wouldn't do the same? >what's your most prized Yea Forums possession?
>>what collections do you plan to complete within five years? lots...lots and lots. I'll list the ones I will never finish cause of costs >Absolute Promethea >Starman omnibus's >The Question >Manara Library HCs >>if you had to start over, what is one thing you wouldn't do the same? jump back into Heavy Metal earlier. Not get Priest Black Panther >>what's your most prized Yea Forums possession? probably the first printing of Borgia's, got the 3 HC's. Either that or autographed Shame.
it's actually both. The art is really sexy but you can trust Mike Carey to give you some really good twists
>what collections do you plan to complete within five years? Hope fully Mignolaverse, if stuff like the LJ, the visitor, rasputin and other series like that get collected into omnis
>if you had to start over, what is one thing you wouldn't do the same? I wouldnt buy tpbs of stuff that's collected in omnis or library editions. I guess I would just be more patient in this hobby
>what's your most prized Yea Forums possession? House of Penance, By chance or providence, and through the woods. I let the GF borrow those on our first date
Jonathan Ward
Got but not here yet: Devilman Classic Collection volume two-Go Nagai Gideon Falls volume 1-Jeff Lemire The Underwater Welder-Jeff Lemire Britannia volume 3: The Lost Eagles of Rome-Peter Miligan
Reminds me I still need to get Max Bemis's Moon Knight.
Jayden Gray
Finally got Swampy on my wall just in time for the show to be cancelled.
Damn, I'm jelly. Did you print it yourself or get it somewhere?
Cameron Cruz
Mate it's below Swamp Thing comics and beside an MST3K poster, it's hardly out of place with the rest of the room.
Asher Myers
Got it off ebay.
Carter Anderson
WB has been fucking up for decades. It's rumored that they wanted Swamp Thing to be a fucking police procedural. AT&T scalping them isn't helping either
Finally got my hands on a few Hitman trades after storytiming it a few weeks ago, couldn't be happier. I am going to have to find some more shelf space though, I'm more or less at capacity.
>what collections do you plan to complete within five years? Morrison JLA, single issues of Deadly Class, the "must have" essential books like Watchmen, Grell's Green Arrow. Most of what I'm planning to pick up is omnis or things that I only need one or two volumes but I've been putting off buying too much because I don't have the room. I'm thinking of starting to buy first appearances and good one issue stories of character I like. >if you had to start over, what is one thing you wouldn't do the same? Buy several things I ended up waiting too long on and they went out of print. >what's your most prized Yea Forums possession? The cheap plastic Captain America shield my dad got me for what ended up being my last Christmas with him.
Luis Martin
>they wanted Swamp Thing to be a fucking police procedural
what
Ethan Kelly
This makes me realize I still have a lot of material left to cover. Great selection man, here's mine as of last week,
WB did the same thing with Lucifer for the Fox viewing audience. The official description when the show was first announced was >The drama follows what happens when CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be gone after all. That's pretty much episode 1. Looks like WB executives were sold a show about Abby solving mysteries with the help of Swamp Thing, and whatever they actually got was not that
Gavin Lopez
Man I want that figure but it's to much for me right now, there is like knockoff versions on Ebay for $40 but they just look off, like the joints in the arms, legs, and thumb look really weird
>>what collections do you plan to complete within five years? All I've ever really wanted was every issue of Batman/DC and Superman/AC from 1970 thru 1990. DC releases FUCK ALL for Bronze Age Superman, so I'm hoping they keep putting out BA Batman. I wish they'd just do an omnibus of Moench's (first) Batman run. >>if you had to start over, what is one thing you wouldn't do the same? Well, If I was omniscient, I would just not buy things I knew were getting superior collections down the road. >>what's your most prized Yea Forums possession? All three volumes of Colossal Conan. Those things are sooo fucking expensive now, and since they'll never exist again, they'll only grow more valuable.
Luis Clark
Do you have any more Conan? I was thinking about picking up one of the original print novels
Cameron Phillips
I think its worth every penny, didn't hurt that I had it pre-ordered since last year so it wasn't to hard on my budget. Also I've seen reviews of the KO, very tempting especially for the accessories, but also very disappointing. The build quality is nowhere near the original. Save up and wait for a deal man, I'm sure you wouldn't regret it once you have it on hand.
Also forgot to add in the pic, I've recently purchased Hellboy in Mexico hardcover. Seeing them all in omnibus form is beautiful but I think I'll stick with getting the paperbacks and eventually getting the omnibuses last.
Joseph Miller
My friend got me this because I enjoy comics, but I’ve never actually read the series or even played the games. What am I in for bros?
Some no-cool-weenie reported my /shelf/ just cuz it had 1/6 ponies. So I moved 'em and put the animu and cartoon series I own so far. A few comics are missing since I lent them to mom to check out.
>what collections do you plan to complete within five years?
Yea Forums: Akira, Loveless, Princess Jellyfish, Death Note, Flower of Evil, Cyborg 009, Cardcaptor Sakura
Yea Forums: I'll be grabbing the Venom/Carnage Omi when I can (so technically...) I'll still be gathering as much Venom as I enjoy regardless and Sandman.
>if you had to start over, what is one thing you wouldn't do the same?
Luckily I'm so cheap I don't have that many regrets. The only thing I regret is giving Cates' shit run money. Tried to give the guy a chance and Stegman's art is great but man, in the end it was such a waste. Even Stegman's art gives me such a gross taste nowadays.
>what's your most prized Yea Forums possession?
I have more Yea Forums prized possessions than Yea Forums. They are my Scottie Young Animated Venom Statue and my 2 Limited Edition Disney Princess dolls.
I'm going to another convention this weekend, so I haven't been spending on new Venom/Venom comics. Outside of convention stuff, I'm just expecting Symbiote Spider-Man #3 to come out this week.
Does anyone know any good Hanna-Barbera history books that also contain information about their days at CN?
Jayden Sanchez
Used a 6 dollar off coupon on ebay to nab volumes 2 & 3 of All-Star Western, halfway done with that. Also have three 5 dollars off orders over 25 dollar coupons, might try and use one or two, they expire at the end of the month so idk.
Landon Gray
Yeah, I'm eventually going to buy that figure. Also do yourself a favor and buy the library editions instead of of the omnis, the pages are bigger and the spines look great shelves. It will be more pricey but if your willing to spend that movie on that figure you will be happy with the library editions. Are you going to collect the rest of BPRD?
Jaxon Gomez
Who are the best japanese artists (not sure of specific name for it) still working?

Ahahahaha Remember how when Swamp Thing - The Bronze Age omnibus came out, and people were upset because it wasn't 100% complete? In that, even though it contains all the stuff named "Swamp Thing," it didn't contain the Brave and the Bold/Challengers of the Unknown stuff? Then the first softcover release of it came out, and the second was cancelled due to poor sales. A few months ago a second softcover volume was added to the Random House edelweiss page again. I decided to actually look at it's contents today, and low and behold!
>Collects Swamp Thing #14-24, plus Challengers of the Unknown #81-87 and The Brave and the Bold #122 and #176. The issues that people were upset were not in the omnibus are now included in the second softcover, unless that get canned because of the show now. People who bought the omnibus now have a less complete collection
Matthew Johnson
To be fair, the chief fucking selling point for the Bronze Age Swamp Thing collection wasn't the 70s stuff, but the V2 Plasko run. Which has never been reprinted and critical in terms of being required reading before reading the Moore run.
Most people were pissed at the MIA stuff, but were willing to overlook it because it gave them the entire Pasko run collected in full at long last (even issue #18's framing sequence, which was a big thing as DC refused to reprint similar framing sequences in Flash and Green Lantern collections, even though said framing sequences contained major plot elements to the main stories).
Reading through some golden age DC I really wish they'd reprint Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster's comics aside from Superman. They're by far the best people DC had in the golden age. All of their shit is leaps above
Brody Williams
buy more books, I see an empty space

Most of the Golden Age stuff is reprinted in the Archives and can be bought dirt cheap, since unlike the Marvel Masterworks, there isn't much demand for them.
Jeremiah Kelly
Why do some lcs sell new floppies unbagged and without boards?
Andrew Cruz
Excalibur reads better in batches (especially Crosstime Caper). BUT the Epics are flawed as fuck in that they omit Days of Future Present. Even though it's a HUGE fucking moment in Excalibur in terms of the closest thing to a moment where the team find out that the X-Men are alive and further Rachel's entire arc.
Parker Russell
My old LCS didnt charge for bags and boards. They closed last year. The LCS that's left charges for bags and boards. I didn't know how good I had it with my old LCS
Henry Evans
Because not all comic shops are run by OCD faggots who jew you out of an additional 50 cents per new issue by having them boarded/bagged.
Blake Parker
because theyre based. my lcs sells floppies with the bag and board and you have to pay 25 cents per book if you wanna keep the bag and board. i always want the books taken out, i aint paying an extra dollar or two

This "omnibus" is criminally overpriced . Reminds me of the Duggan Guardians omni
Wyatt Smith
80s and 90s Punisher is very, very slept on. People only ever talk about Ennis, but OG Punisher had this Evil Batman/James Bond vibe going on.
Cameron Miller

haha thanks dood, a conversation about those artists and books they worked on would probably be inappropriate for Yea Forums and /shelf/!
Blake Campbell
Here in Australia we get stooged for everything, if it's any consolation. Marvel omnis set you back about $100-150 normally.
John Anderson
Small haul, I checked out some comic shops that I never gave the chance before and it went ok, the posters were free so that was cool
>is a stupid answer and is counter-intuitive to this thread. It's a stupid answer to a stupid question. It's like the guy last thread who asked "what issues does this omnibus collect." Like fuck off and at least try to find out for yourself. /shelf/ is for people who actually know something about comics to talk about them, not a place for people to be spoonfed. Literally lurk moar.
Chase Cooper
>Americop's first appearance where he's got his hat off beating up crooks and looking super sexy dong so (a page of said debut issue I used to furiously masturbate to growing up) Gay or bi? I know Yea Forums is pretty gay but first i have seen of this in /shelf/
William Green
Phil Jimenez has some stuff in The Invisibles and Morrison's X-Men, Gary Frank has his run with Geoff Johns in Superman, Midnight Nation and Supreme Power with Straczinsky I don't know about the rest
Gavin Cooper
Boarding every comic is for autists. Just bad em and store em unless they are something you want to preserve for resale, which you shouldn't cause unless it is batdick it isn't worth shit
Luke Cooper
Nah mate. You just being lazy as fuck
Colton Gray
>/shelf/ is for people who actually know something about comics to talk about them That explains all the people who ask dumb questions like "what is a comic run" or "why are american comics in color unlike manga"
Chase Evans
>why are american comics in color unlike manga" Must have missed that thread cause i never heard of this question. But sure, we get dumb questions but usually we call out those dumb questions.
Now a serious question would you want to meet your favorite comic character? inb4 Death
Jacob Perry
What are you bitches reading? Is it any fucking good? I’m reading the 70’s Starlin omni. It’s peak Starlin from Marvel’s overall best period.
Easton Martin
i would love to meet superman
Gabriel Hall
>What are you bitches reading? brian hitch DC Rebirth Justice league and mark waid/grant morrison JLA Is it any fucking good? brian hitch JL is boring as shit, grant morrison and mark waid JLA is top tier superhero comics
I've never seen those questions in a /shelf/ thread, but if I did, I'd call them stupid too.
Lucas Davis
But Death___ is cute
Joshua Powell
>ive also been enjoying doomsday clock I feel like a lot of people on Yea Forums are terrified to say this. Ditto King's Batman. The hivemind is very strong on Yea Forums

Just finished reading some USM. It was okay.
Kevin Wood
I would want to meet and fuck Starfire.
Aaron Torres
>tom king my only complaint with tom king is that his dialogue is really kinda like, staccato and flat and kinda lifeless and i read it in the same flat tone. i havent read any tom king batman but i read mister miracle and loved it and heroes in crisis, which i thought was perfectly fine
Dominic Barnes
it's just not worth going into those threads if you like the comics. There's a ton of stuff coming out now I love but most of Yea Forums HATES it. I think a lot of mainstream A list books are good now
Alexander Allen
Don't we all
Ian Cook
It's so much easier to hate everything than to put yourself on the line and say "I like this," just to be assaulted by 5 different people. This behavior reminds me so much of teenagers. Where it's not "cool" to be excited about something. I mean, the entire soiboi meme is literally making fun of people for being happy and excited.
Jeremiah Morgan
>I mean, the entire soiboi meme is literally making fun of people for being happy and excited.
not him, but i posted on here about how much i liked doomsday clock 10 and how i enjoyed the panel where dr manhattan sees superman picking up the car from ac#1 and some user called me a basedboy for enjoying something that was clearly written and put in to be fan service
Logan Brown
Yeah. If it's "cool" to be miserable and spiteful then I'll happily be uncool. I wouldn't use this board if not for /shelf/. Just wouldn't be worth the time.
Dominic Lopez
It spins, so there are shelves on the other sides as well. Thus it ends up evening itself out haha
Grachias, I will never forget staying up till midnight to watch it on Fridays.
I just finished pic related. Pretty good, it was like a memoir/documentary in comic form
As far as ongoing comics: Symbiote Spider-Man, I'm reading another book "Writing Comics With Peter David" and he's writing Symbiote Sider-man and I want more Symbiote stuff so yeah, why not see his writing in action? It's one of the few recent stuff that I'm actually enjoying.
No $10 per point. But anything counts. So my floppies count. Not great but still a decent deal
Evan Wood
>American Barbarian >Transformers vs Gi Joe
Nice Scioli stuff, user. Is the hardcover of TF vs GI Joe worth the price? Does it have all the things the floppies have, including the commentary?
Charles Lee
It is a fun comic that I would not recommend to everyone, it is very cynical but very deep inside it has a bit of heart to it my main problem with it is that even if there's some serious moments the main thing is taking the piss out of a lot of stuff and if the comedy is not your thing you may not enjoy it.
Matthew Lopez
to everything is 8% off basically
Luis Bell
You have an Instagram or something?
Tyler Gomez
It does. It also has the one off TvGI the movie he did a while after. All in a nice oversized volume
Daniel Taylor
Almost done with collecting the Hellboy Universe, if you can call missing all the BPRD omnibi almost done. The two Hellboy spin off tpbs were a little bit of a let down after Koschei, Rasputin is barely in his
Come on satan. At least buy The Ring of the Niblungs. Even Loki/the Devil can appreciate that cause Loki doesn't really lose...
Elijah Sanders
>what collections do you plan to complete within five years? Hopefully the Cosmic Marvel Omnis or equivalents. Lacking Annihilation, Conquest and Road. Plus any manga that I have started from Panini these past years and probably Delano's Hellblazer.

Beginner buy of comic volumes here, is it recommended to get hardcovers over TPB's if money isn't and issue?
Charles Harris
I don't understand the problem here
Hunter Walker
I hate hardcovers
Wyatt White
why???? I can't figure out this
Eli Torres
It depends, sometimes hardcovers have oversized art, more issues and neat extras, other times they are exactly the same as TPBs, I'd say read carefully the descriptions before buying.
Camden Myers
Sure, if they are the exact same contents. Which surprisingly isnt the case most of the time for extras. But I really prefer HC for series that I really, really like.
Logan Nelson
Bigger is always better. Buy oversized hardcovers when available
Owen Russell
Sure. Good binding is the difference. Sewn hardcover binding means being able to lay a book flat which is what you're supposed to be able to so with stapled comics. Paperbacks are always going to have a larger unless it's flexibound or something. Hardcovers with glued bindings aren't really much better than paperbacks though.
Julian Nelson
i prefer hardcovers, but paperbacks are fine
Henry Carter
Not truly a comic, but the only new addition and a 25 cent garage sale buy that will inevitably end up in my nephew's possession since I got him hooked on Space Jam.
Not a lot of Siegel and Shuster though, if you want Slam Bradley or Dr. Occult you're shit outta luck
Thomas Harris

Liam Thompson
Then you will love it, it is part Moore Captain Britain and part just fucking weird shit.
Think she had a series spin out of Grell's Green Arrow (or shortly after it), not sure if it's good though. I've only read a couple issues and they were all right.
Justin Adams
I don't know about that. Iove her stuff in Grell's GA. Especially when she beats the shit out of some robbers to get over being raped..then comes home to Ollie and just jumps all over his dick. god damn that was rewarding
She had a four issue miniseries (called New Wings or something like that) during Grell's Green Arrow, then an ongoing which lasted a year near the end of Grell's tenure. The miniseries is solid, but the ongoing is a little rough, And hey man, she wasn't raped. Grell takes offense to when people say that, because he didn't write or draw a rape in his mind
Cooper Russell
she was clearly sexually assaulted at the minimum. Grell wrote that they never had sex again until the 4th trade which begins with issue 21. It was unclear if she was raped or not, but the next 20 issues seemed to reinforce that idea.
Jonathan Nelson
Grell is maybe my favorite person in comics ever I don't know why, I think there are better writers and better artists but he did both better than any other writer/artist in mainstream comics did both, and it was badass how he created an awesome comic like Warlord and then left DC and went indie before it was cool or safe to do that and made the awesome Jon Sable.
Austin Perez
I haven't even read Warlord yet but I kind agree. His GA was totally pushing the boundaries in so many ways, not just cause drug content like GA/GL did but cause he snuck nudity into his books. And he was never afraid to tackle very adult stuff but he never did it in a manner that was always shocking like later writers, they were just...there. His GA is if not top 5 easily top 10 comics for me
Josiah Adams
>and went indie before it was cool or safe to do that and made the awesome Jon Sable. It is really clear when reading Warlord when he stopped writing it, and his wife took over. The vast majority of his 50 or so stories were one-and-dones, and her stories were ongoing serialized arcs. Starslayer was one of the books (like Hama's Bucky O'Hare) that would have been DC owned-properties had the Implosion not happened. Hama was laid off as an employee, so he was free to keep his IP. Grell's Warlord was protected by virtue of being Kahn's favourite book, but the Implosion made Grell keep his other ideas to himself (even though Starslayer was basically a reverse-Warlord, in SPAAAACE). He didn't have to do much sneaking. Swamp Thing under Moore and Berger had proven that they didn't need the CCA anymore, so anything (except Jesus) under the "mature readers" tag was fair game.
Carson Cruz
it's wasn't "mature readers" that I thought Swamp Thing was, so he snuck a nipple here and there and some adult themes. What I can't believe he got away with was an entire issue of Ollie running around the forrest naked. Sure, it was shaded, but the dick was there on many pages.
Austin Butler

Read it when it was storytimed recently. It followed the typical formula for Ennis, which doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. But it wasn't as good as Preacher or some of his other long running series.
Connor Rivera
Reading it made me feel a little gross, honestly, like I’d fapped six times in the same day. I don’t know that I hate it. It did seem a six issue story stretched on forever. After the Boys knock over a few super teams it’s just rinse and repeat for awhile whole the real plot just idles. I was mildly surprised to realize there was a plot beyond super sodomy.
Michael Thomas
>mfw the tex collection i was buying got cancelled at volume 40 out of 60
Bruh, what the fuck? Do you pay people to dump dust on your desk? Fix this, I can't breathe just by looking at it.
Leo Robinson
>It did seem a six issue story stretched on forever. >After the Boys knock over a few super teams it’s just rinse and repeat for awhile whole the real plot just idles. Agree. I would say it is at least fifty issues longer than it needed to be. It is one of those comics where you'll read the whole thing and then wonder why you did, it's hard to put down despite not being very good.
Adrian Richardson
>super sodomy lol, wut
Luke Green
Grell's GA was under the Suggested For Mature Readers tag until around issue #64.

Are those Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest artbooks a specific game? Or just a general outlook on the artstyle of the whole franchises.
Levi Torres
the G-Men with Professor G as a super pedo grooming young supers for his bed. Pretty cool, eh, eh? Ennis calling anyone else a septic (through butcher) is a laughable lack of self-awareness on the his part.

This cover is so bad >Spider-Man holding Gwen >"Huh, this might confuse them. Put a giant Grim Reaper behind them, that way they know she's dead and anyone who hasn't read this story will know she dies inside" >"Eh, that's not quite enough. Put a bottom panel of a bridge, to represent the bridge she died on." >"Still not enough. Overall, it's worth a read. The ending is a little rushed, but still makes sense and is satisfying to me.
Jack Young
Hopefully, DC could makes an omnibus... Hopefully

One Can Dream

This came in today, The Black Beetle is coming in the next few days
How does it compare against the Bergen Street ones? Same quality? The Bergen ones are super nics
Anthony Lopez
So far the only difference I have seen is in the cover/spine, the Image one is a little smoother and semi gloss. And the spine now has image on the top so the title is a little more towards center. They seem to be the same size and the quality of the paper seems about the same
Logan Richardson
It had really terrible sales for most of it, so I really doubt AT&T will greenlight an omnibus
Getting back into shit after a little break. Just placed this. And fucking finally ordered Wet Moon volume 1 off of Amazon to see if I like it since IST has never had any in stock when I've checked. How'd I do?
Actually user I just checked again and the image one is slightly bigger, its taller by 1/8" and wider by 1/16"
Jonathan Rivera
Has anybody read "WW: The Witching Hour"
Jonathan Adams
it was shit. the entire run of JLD has been shit. Tynion IV is more of a hack than anyone at DC. He thinks he's clever but holy shit, most of his mistakes are things I learned in grade 9 writing classes to avoid. Just avoid it and the shitty WW tie ins.
Hudson Carter
I wanted to read something with Zatanna as the main character
David Gray
Then read Paul Dini's stuff and call it a day.
Levi Howard
the whole time I was reading she was a pointless character. fucking Tynion took away her magic in issue 1 and she was pointless to the whole story for the first 10ish issues I read. I feel ya, I want more good Zatanna. God for Dini Zatanna or Seven Soldiers instead though
Gavin Sanchez
She's literally depowered for the first 10 issues or so. "Witching Hour" (and the series as an extension) had basically been Tynion saying >Look! It's THIS MAGICAL CHARACTER over and over again, with many of them dying immediately.
William Sullivan
And now they are joined by Ring of Nibelung and Lobster Johnson - The Iron Prometheus!
Christian Brooks
Post pictures. How's the Nibelung tpb quality wise? Yeah. Pretty shitty
Hudson Wood
user, you are making me proud. I am always happy when people get my favorite comics
Camden Adams
>Post pictures Maybe later. >quality wise It's kind of like the Dark Horse Conan omnis but thinner. Smells really fresh too.
Samuel Myers
not that user, but is it the single HC? I wish I waited for that, I ended up with the two TPBs instead. Would love to upgrade but seems like a waste cause I have so much other stuff to get
Samuel Jackson
Nope, it's soft-cover. Here, I took a picture of my recent acquisitions after all.
>Kabuki Dreams >Ring of the Nibelung >Grell Green Arrow >Daredevil you are my favorite people!
too bad that is the softcover version. I am probably mistaken and that the recent reprint was that version. Regardless, it's a fucking masterpiece of a comic. It's basically what I would show anyone how comic art and panelling can be the best
Bentley Evans
Yes. I really need to get my dad to read it soon, he enjoyed Russel's art in Sandman so he'll probably love this too.
John Nelson

>reading Dreams >the art and lettering change every few pages This book was just Mack showing off what he can do, wasn't it?

Everyone here should get Ring of Nibelung by the way. At least read it.
