Well the comics also had Hay Lin stick-thin, and Irma practically fat. Not to mention pig snouts for noses, and characters looking 5 years younger if female or 5 years older if male than their stated ages.

A lot of the early stuff was drawn by Barbucci himself, who is a fucking god and so far above "how to draw manga" that it pains me to type out this sentence. The page you posted is "how to draw manga" tier though, yes.
