‘The Secret Life of Pets 2’: Audiences Like It; Critics Not So Much
And some say "trust the audience"
Just like Godzilla, Detective Pikachu, and Aladdin, then? What a weird summer
That's not surprising; these movies are lowest common denominator sequences of trailerbait made to draw in audiences and be as inoffensive as possible so they don't mind being drawn in by pure trailerbait.
why not?
Audience loves lighthearted humor
I hate illumination and their asinine nonsense
Nothing's weird about it; this is the law of the land. Everyone has shit taste as usual only for some reason people value idiot's opinion now. How is this shit any different from anything Illuminati has done before? You despise the normie minions meme and still find it strange that audiences like things that critics hate because they are objectively terrible and audiences are objectively wrong?
Or maybe you're just trying to reconcile the fact that you have become a fan of Micheal Bay EXPLOSION!
This year really sucks for domestic animated movies.
Normally I balk at these posts. But actually, yeah, that's a pretty horrible showing.
>that image again
Yeah yeah, we get it
Critics only like Oscar bait. Audiences just want to turn their brain off and watch a movie. Trust neither, watch trailers and clips of shit and determine if you might want to watch it yourself. Fuck other people's opinions.
>uglydolls
what the fuck that franchise is still alive?
They know how to make money
We're coming out of a weird roughly ten year time where critics and audiences were mostly in sync. Folks like Christopher Nolan got popular and made flicks that could be action packed and pretentious. I think the culture has shifted to be more divisive and the average person is looking for more pure escapism.
So it's just a typical Illumination movie? Even though critics don't like it it'll still make like 700 million dollars.
>audiences like mediocre pablum
>critics don't
stop the motherfucking presses
Thank God for GKIDS.
These Illumination movies aren't made for critics; they're made for dumb fucking 6 year olds so they can shut up for an hour and a half.
Audiences today are idiots.
>Illumination
Wow, such a surprise. I thought all their movies were so well liked by critics?
I torrented the Secret life of Pets years ago and i can't remember a single scene and I only watched it once.
So I don't know if I want to do that again.
Its a family movie
Not a surprise that 50 year olds with twats for brains cant comprehend this
It’s a literal movie with subplots that feel like they are separate movies, how the fuck could people like this?
Nice trips. Honestly though, we have reached an impasse. Critics today are so high up on their asses that they won't give good reviews to anything unless it's "woke" or oscar bait, and audiences don't exactly have the best tastes in movies and eat up trite crap.
We don't belong anywhere. Not to the masses, nor the elite.
The previews made it look really retarded. And honestly, after seeing audience scores on RT, I believe it when I'm told audiences are into really retarded shit.
Laika could’ve really shined this year if they’d chosen a better movie to do than Missing Link. What a waste of time and craftsmanship.
>Name a watchable illumination film after Despicable Me 1.
You can't
This. In an industry full of wanna be Illuminations you have to st least give the OG company a little respect for being able to be originally unoriginal
Hop.
they're all watchable, they're just....
mediocre
Turns out it's cheaper to invest in chinese click/review farms than it is to pay off critics
Spies in disguise looks based.
I think reviewers are losing the public's trust
I think most people know that reviewers are mostly shit now days and just like whatever
Audiences aren't as dumb as we think, they know what they're walking into with movies like this.
Americans are dumb consumerist mongrels, there’s a reason why they like this fluff. Nobody wants anything with soul or character development anymore. Just wacky shit with gross out humor.
Illumination movies grossed mostly from overseas market. I can say European/Asian audience are also dumb enough to pay the cash for them.
who was in the wrong here? audience who gets attracted to generic shitty 3d animal cartoon, or critics who rate the 3d animal cartoon movie through the lens of mature experienced movie reviewer?
>through the lens of mature experienced movie reviewer?
I think you're over estimating reviewers
why is this happening so often in movies now?
Critics have forgotten that their job is to recommend a movie for the audience, not mindlessly praise arthouse films or talk about themselves.
Europeans and Asians watch movies for fun like Americans.
>there’s a reason why they like this fluff
Actually this movie seems to be doing a lot worse than the first one
>Critics today are so high up on their asses that they won't give good reviews to anything unless it's "woke" or oscar bait,
John Wick 3 got great reviews
>I think reviewers are losing the public's trust
Except the movies that are getting poorly reviewed aren't doing great in the box office. Also, explain Shazam which got rave reviews?
>shills talking highly of reviewers
is this place becoming worse than Yea Forums or are we already there
Watch the trailer, it's not.
That's only cause they think John Wick is real.
I actually liked the first Angry Birds movie. I'd be more interested in the sequel if not for Leslie Jones.
Breaking news: Illumination continues to pander.
Not anymore. It got absolutely raped at the box office because some studio exec literally thought releasing it only a week after Endgame would draw in kids too young to watch MCU films, even though kids love the MCU
Good.
The movie was garbage anyway.
Despicable Me 3 is really good if you only pay attention to the main Gru/Dru storyline and the series' best villain Bratt. Delete the kids' and Minions' subplots and it's a worthy sequel.
It could’ve been a cool spy movie but noooo... they had to add talking-animal shit and butt jokes because ANIMASHUN IZ 4 KIDZ!!1!
leslie was the only decent part of ghostbusters
Critics tend to higher standards than regular audience members. This is literally their job.
The only watchable part in Despicable Me 3 is the minions’ jail break, the rest are utterly boring and dumbass and it’s even worse than the second film and the minions spin-off.
I can't believe I'm saying this genuinely, but it's looking like Frozen 2 is probably going to be the best offering this year.
Wow. What a high bar.
>Despicable Me 2 was nominated for an Oscar
What the fuck?
Because:
TWO Oscars to be exact
John Wick ISN'T REAL?
The first Secret Life of Pets was pretty alright. This one didn't look interesting at all.
Illumination is a french company
It was basically another NY city adventure movie.
>Disney sequel
Nah
>Detective Pikachu
it wasn't that good. it's only gelled with audiences because of the franchise associated with it. I can't speak for the other movies since I haven't watched them...
