How many characters have actually fought in wars?
I’m sure there more than just him and Grandpa Pickles from Rugrats.
Mr.Krabs was in the navy but did he actually fight a war?
Veteran Characters
Abe “Grandpa” Simpson and Mr. Burns were WWII vets
I don't think it specifically states whether Krabs saw combat, but there's evidence in favor of it. Krusty Krab training video states that he fell into a depression after the war, and he has a bunch of old vet buddies with ridiculous injuries, like the torpedo chest guy.
Considering it's Spongebob, I think if the writers ever had to really explain how he got a torpedo in his chest, they'd just come up with some wacky non-violent reason for it, but until then I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that they saw some kind of combat together.
Forgot pic
Cotton Hill killed fiddy men and had his shins blown off in Korea
There’s Donald Duck.
I also remember a Barks comic where it was mentioned that Scrooge served in the Boer War, and he uses some of his old weapons. I believe it was one of the first stories where the Beagle Boys appeared, around 1950-1951
No wonder Glomgold hates him.
Oh and also in the cartoon "Fly With Von Drake" (1963), Ludwig Von Drake mentioned he served in the air force in 1917 (WW1). Also the fact that he's Austrian implies that he served on the baddies' side.
Here's the full quote from Disney Wiki (the cartoon itself can be found online pretty easily)
>In Fly with Von Drake, Ludwig claims to have served in the air force in 1917, where he earned himself the dubious nickname of "Ludwig "Eddie Von Richthofen" Drake". During his first flight in combat, he shot down five planes--five planes from his own side, that is, with Ludwig remarking that he's been wearing glasses ever since.
>Kaiserliche und Königliche Luftfahrtruppen re-organized from a balloon corps in 1912
Seems legit.
>During his first flight in combat, he shot down five planes--five planes from his own side, that is, with Ludwig remarking that he's been wearing glasses ever since.
Not surprising, given that aviation warfare was just starting up.
And Skinner is a Vietnam vet
And Skinner's father, Barney Gumble's father and Chief Wiggum's father served in the same company as Burns and Grampa Simpson
Do friendly fire incidents count?
>"And that's when it happened. None of us saw it coming - most of all, me."
>"You've got 45 seconds, private! Let me see you clean that rifle!"
>"Yes, sir!"
>(Martin drops rifle, goes off)
>"Christopher Columbus on a cracked-wheat cracker, who discharged that weapon?!"
>"I shot my own colonel."
I don't remember this episode
yancy fry sr from futurama was a vietnam war veteran. it was basically his entire character.
Wasn't it Korea?
>We had to eat Kim Chi. He was our interpreter.
"Veterans Day," where Steely Phil singlehandedly wins the Battle of the Bulge. (And wedgies Goebbels.)
Martin Johannsen, Gerald's dad, ends up as a file clerk in Vietnam and saves a wounded soldier outside of An Loc, but not before shooting his CO in the butt due to inadequate basic training.
>WWI
>anybody being the baddies
I'm American to the core, but the Krauts were damn good adversaries during the First World War.
Everytime there's an Alien invasion in comics everyone should get veteran status.
Popeye was in the Navy
but it's hard to count WW2 propaganda cartoons because they literally all were
pic makes him look like he's hailing hitler
>And wedgies Goebbels
It was Hitler
I think he just bought the cannon
But why would he be in South Africa at the time of the Boer War if he had NOT been drafted into the army? Weren't all able bodied Scotsmen required to fight on the British empire side.
Wouldn’t he have already been American at the time?
I dunno...Does/did moving to another country mean one could be exempt from the draft in time of war? Barks portrayed Scrooge as a young man during the late 1890s, so unless he was a draft dodger he must have taken part. (Besides, at least until he built his money bin, Scrooge was probably not an American citizen, but an illegal immigrant--13 year olds are definitely not allowed to legally move to abroad by themselves, and by the time he reached the age of majority he had left the US and was traveling all over the world to find his fortune).
Its the Roman salute, retard.
They fought to keep foul language from children's ears.
>Geralt dad was at 'nam
>end up in a desk post
based and smart negro man
Did Lou always have that stache in the various flashbacks?
>Weren't all able bodied Scotsmen required to fight on the British empire side.
No. Britain never had conscription outside of the world wars.
They were able to have truces on Christmas and probably would've called the whole war off if it were up to those actually fighting in it.
Based pride poster
You have no idea how many I've been compared to him
t. Vice principal who served in the Gulf War
>woodland camo in the desert
iktf
I was a POG so my unit went to the Gulf wearing all woodland. Didn't touch a single desert cammie during my time there.
>Korea
Japan
>"TOJO TOOK MAH SHINS!"
In the originals comics Popeyes mentions serving in the navy during the Spanish-American war, which was in 1898.
I was an 11B. Saw combat in Operation Just Cause and Operation Restore Hope for whatever that's worth.
Kevin Swanson fought in the invasion of Iraq
he was in south africa searching for gold amids the diamond rush 1887
he could have dealings after the first boer war
dont forget donald fought in the pacific as a commando
Nope. The first boer war lasted from 1880-1881, so he couldn't have bought it right after that war. Also, you're referring to a story made by Don Rosa 40+ years after Barks's story, so it has no bearing on the intention of that 1951 Barks comic.
>drops rifle, goes off
Firearms don't work that way.
They do.
Most firearms misfires comes from dropping it. If the impact is enough to release the firing pin, it will discharge.
deserter
Japan did control Korea during WW2.
