New SpongeBob is obgectively better looking. Brighter colors, cleaner lines, fluid animation, no grain

Both have their strengths. Old one is more personal and has great charm but looks really wonky. New one is very technically impressive and fun but lacks a personal flair and feels robotic.

but there shouldn't be any grain, the artist didn't draw the grain, it's a byproduct of scanning drawn art. Digital art doesn't suffer from that issue.

Grain is like a seal of quality where you know everything you're seeing was drawn and thought out by hand and not just some tweened bullshit rigged by an intern.

Ink and paint has a lot of characteristics to like over digital coloration, so sing the praises of ink and paint, not grain. Grain is such a minuscule part of the equation it shouldn’t even be a discussion (positive or negative)
