Andy Khouri not only hired Eric M. Esquivel, the rapist comic writer of Border Town, he is also single-handedly responsible getting Nu-Vertigo cancelled, as he was head editor in charge of the imprint.
Andy Khouri was aware of the allegations against Esquivel before hiring him, but still brought him in to the DC and Warner Brothers family anyways.
DC Comics continues to fail, and Andy Khouri continues to fall upwards.
How do you feel about this based editor of brilliant comics, anons?
Seems like all editors fail upwards. Jordan White, who oversaw the disastrous last couple years of X-Men being promoted us exhibit A.
Lincoln Morris
Didn't he reject pitches and blacklist Brendan McCarthy from DC because he has diferent political opinions from him?
Daniel Smith
Sana Amanat and Andy Khouri are both underqualified people hired in to prominent positions at the two biggest comic companies in America. They are both good friends, and both continue to fail upwards despite crashing sales figures for the comic companies they work for. What is the meaning of this?
comics don't mattter, they're kept out of tradition only.
James Perry
This is Andy Khouri's favorite game. Eric Esquivel was hired by Khouri, despite being a rapist who rapes underage girls, because Esquivel had the right politics. Bleedingcool and many other publications that championed Esquivel and Border Town were also aware of the rape allegations against Esquivel before he was brought on to work for DC by Khouri. It's a bizarre little network and all of these people seem to know each other and be friends.
It is true that Khouri and many other DC editors gatekeep and blacklist people who have different political opinions than them. This is simply part and parcel in the American comics industry these days.
you cannot be srs, why don't they hire a woman or POC or best yet a POC woman to take his place? Why do people like Jordan White have so much clout?
Owen Powell
This man looks like a sexual deviant of some sort.
>How an Internet Blogger Infiltrated DC & Ruined Vertigo >This lesson would come back to haunt the future leader of Vertigo Comics, Andy Khouri, as his time there has been mired by even bigger scandals. During Khouri’s time as Comics Alliance EIC, calling DC Comics out on their perceived missteps (such as over-sexualization of Catwoman, Starfire and Harley Quinn, restoration of Barbara Gordon’s walking eliminating DC’s only disabled hero of consequence and the cancellation of Batwoman’s gay marriage by editorial) was a staple of their coverage. Corporate shaming is a tactic used by the far left to cause a call to action to address non-existent or trivial issues and formally address them. Normally, by hiring the very critics who called them out to oversee and fix the problems. In January 2015, Khouri stepped down as EIC of Comics Alliance, and less than 3 months later he was hired as a DC Comics Editor. >The seven new titles to champion social justice and create controversy were dubbed “Woke Vertigo” by customers. Despite Mark Doyle being in charge, the new creative lineup and had former Comics Alliance EIC, and now Vertigo editor, Andy Khouri’s fingerprints all over them. Bryan Hill heading up American Carnage, a series about a disgraced biracial former FBI agent made sense, but most of the other choices were inexplicable from a comic publishing perspective. But they all had the right politics and shared Khouri’s progressive agenda. bleedingfool.com/comics/how-an-internet-blogger-infiltrated-dc-comics-ruined-vertigo/
Brandon White
>Eric Esquivel, a comic journalist who published a few indie books with little sales and (like Khouri himself) had displayed minute talent for comic book writing, was given Border Town. The series was billed as “A story of immigrants, an army of monsters inspired by Mexican folklore, and misfit high-schoolers.” He was partnered with Ramon Villalobos who illustrated America, one of the least successful comics Marvel ever published. >Veteran TV writer Ben Blacker headed up Hex Wives, whose tagline was “The women are too powerful. They must be tamed.” The series was about a group of witch housewives who’ve been brainwashed by a conspiracy of men. Blacker had no prior background writing comic books and it showed in the final product.
>The hiring of Zoë Quinn to write Goddess Mode was the most obvious tie to Andy Khouri. Her sex scandal was the catalyst of the gamergate movement that Comics Alliance EIC Khouri targeted with the website so often. Of course, she had no writing credits and had never shown any interest in the industry beforehand. She was paired with Spider-Gwen co-creator Robbi Rodriguez. Little did customers know, they were about to meet a whole new side of Robbi. >Within weeks Vertigo fans noticed several of the new talent spewing hate, based on far-left progressivism and identity politics; ideas Comics Alliance championed during Khouri’s time there. High Level writer Rob Sheridan came out the blocks hardest over President Trump’s proposed immigration policies. He attacked Daily Wire host Michael Knowles calling him a “soulless piece of shit”, a “gaslighting dickstain” and called Knowles and Ben Shapiro, who runs The Daily Wire, “little white racist elf boys”. Not to be outdone, Border Town artist Ramon Villalobos re-affirmed he wanted to “put white people in FEMA camps.” After backtracking on the statement, several older, more racist tweets were uncovered including Villalobos calling President Trump a white supremacist. Zoe Quinn got in on the Woke Vertigo action, attacking Trump’s Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, claiming she wants people to die.
>Andy Khouri intentionally stuffed the creative teams with friends he thought would be controversial and push far left progressivism and identity politics. The problem with filling your comic lineup with hardcore activists is well….they are hardcore activists and tend to have cringy personalities and lack fundamental human skills. Most people could have seen what happened next miles away, the era of Woke Vertigo scandals began. >On 23 August Goddess Mode artist Robbi Rodriguez tweeted a set of uncensored close-up images of a male’s anus to independent comic book artist and YouTuber Ethan Van Sciver. It was truly bizarre as there had been no interaction between the two leading up to the event. The Tweets were likely due to Van Sciver’s association with comicsgate, a consumer movement aimed at removing ideological propaganda from comics, preserving superhero legacies, and insisting on decent behavior by professionals in the comic book industry while interacting with customers.
>dubbed “Woke Vertigo” by customers. Who the fuck called it that
Daniel Price
>pic related is the sexual abuser of underage girls Eric Esquivel, whom was hired in to DC and Warner bros by Andy Khouri
>In mid-December a toy designer accused an unidentified Vertigo comic pro of abusive and harassing behavior, including sexual assault, in a blog post. People quickly connected the dots and identified Border Town writer Eric Esquivel as the unnamed assailant. Esquivel quickly deleted most of his social media with the exception of Twitter, which he would later use to blame white television characters for his abusive behavior.
>Fellow Border Town creators Ramon Villalobos and Tamra Bonvilain distanced themselves from Esquivel and exited the series. Villalobos released a public statement via Twitter and mentioned he heard “rumors about Eric and his treatment of women” prior to the accusations. Bonvillain also claimed on Twitter, she heard about “other complaints about Esquivel, including some that were reported to DC Vertigo.” Other creators, in the incestuous comic book industry, later came forward claiming they heard the rumors as well. >Andy Khouri’s history of mishandling scandal at Comics Alliance with Chris Simms had come back to haunt Vertigo in a big way. DC Comics informed retailers the series was cancelled immediately, previous issues were now returnable and issues 5 and 6 never shipped. Woke Vertigo’s final scandal was a drop in the bucket in comparison to the Esquivel fiasco.
maybe a tiny minority of normies and comics journalists did.
I have only seen it referred to as "Nu vertigo", "nu-vertigo" or "The vertigo relaunch"

The author seems more upset that Esquivel was a known rapist who was hired in to DC anyways because he had the correct politics.

How did talentless Khouri and his besty Sana Amanat obtain such prominent positions in the comics industry in the first place? Their comics continue to fail and get cancelled due to low sales, yet Sana and Andy continue to keep their jobs and get promoted! Very strange.
what is comicsgate and what does it mean? I agree the shill site writing the article about Khouri was certainly biased. Khouri still sucks though, I also agree on this. He is trying to kill DC from the inside while his besty Sana Amanat is doing the same at marvel comics.
Asher Flores
Because they're friends with people in high places and they probably turn the work in on time. Those are the only reasons I can think of.

Sana Amanat was crucial to the creation of one of the few successes in the wave of diversity legacies in recent years. She's hardly a failure because you personally don't like Kamala.
Aaron Smith
>Little did customers know, they were about to meet a whole new side of Robbi. MY SIDES
>Sana Amanat was crucial to the creation of one of the few successes in the wave of diversity legacies in recent years.
If you are going to bring up Ms Marvel, financially she is not a success despite the massive push she has been given. Her comics are decent but the sales figures are nothing special and often times bad. I say this as someone who is an actual fan of Kamala.
Furthermore, Sana Amanat is directly responsible for the drop of sales in Marvel Comics since she was hired on. Her hiring correlates directly with the downfall of Marvel comics we are currently witnessing (I say this as a Kamala fan. Kamala is cute but her comics aren't great and don't sell)
Brayden Collins
The direct market is not indicative of a book's overall success. America proves that if a book truly does poorly, it's cancelled, no matter the politics. Ms. Marvel has not been cancelled, and even made it to a second writer after her creation. Thus we can assume she is successful.
Dylan Martin
There is no justice in this world
Jordan Myers
>Thus we can assume she is successful. they push her into all the cartoons and Sana never shuts the fuck up about her, even then the books are not selling all that well.

Gavin Jackson
>Ms. Marvel has not been cancelled, and even made it to a second writer after her creation
This is because Sana Amanat does not allow Ms Marvel to get cancelled. It's the same reason they relaunched Unstoppable Wasp and Iceman after both series failed and the same reason they repeatedly relaunch Captain Marvel even though her series keep getting cancelled due to low sales.
If Marvel was all about the money, Captain Marvel would not keep getting relaunched in spite of poor sales, and Unstoppable Wasp and Ice Man would not have gotten relaunched and West Coast Avengers would never have been allowed to happen in the first place after America and Hawkeye both got cancelled due to low sales.
Jordan Morgan
As opposed to most sites shilling marvel get over it faggot

Yes and she was only pushed in to all the cartoons because Sana makes sure she is in all of them.
They are trying very hard to make Kamala the new peter parker and flagship character of new marvel. She is not catching on, but who knows, maybe in 10-20 more years of continually pushing her she will.
Andrew Cruz
Huh, guys...?
Colton Garcia
>Correlation is not causation In this case it is.
>Marvel overtook DC in bookstore sales (the market that actually matters)
So this is the new argument and justification for moving the goal posts now when talking about collapsing sales figures in the comics industry? It seems like everyone has given up on the "muh digital Ms Marvel sales are HYUUGE" argument from the past few years.
Jaxon Moore
Truly, the NPC respond. Like clockwork.
Evan Wright
Tell that to Captain Marvel and the Unstoppable Wasp
Sana Amanat, leader of Marvel in all but name, does not allow Ms Marvel to get cancelled because it's her baby. They have doubled down on Ms Marvel by putting her in all the cartoons and games coming out and now it is too late to turn back.
Michael Long
are you racist against NPCs, you incel 4channer bigot? We NPCs are people too.
If you look at positions on the digital market (which don't publish sales, only relative positions) and compare them to the direct market (I use Comichron) there aren't any titles that are really wildly different. Except Ms. Marvel. The difference is very large.
Brody Cox
Relaunches and repeated failures to launch are signs of failing books they want to save for one reason or another. Ms. Marvel never went through that.
Carter Rivera
The sales that matter are the trades. The editorials get much better % of it that in the floppies. For what they care, tomorrow the direct market induestry could crash and burn and nobody will not bat an eye.
Jose Ortiz
No, it's the same argument that direct-market-only retards like you refuse to accept.
Camden Smith

Who is allegedly buying all of these Ms Marvel trades that are allegedly selling so much? Last year /co assured me that Ms Marvel is absolutely killing it in digital sales. Now that argument has disappeared and /co has assured me that Ms Marvel is absolutely killing it in TPB sales (not direct market sales figures though because I have never seen a Ms Marvel TPB in the top 10 or even top 20 of official TPB direct market sales. Who is buying all of these Kamala trades and where are they selling so strongly? I never see Ms Marvel merchandise anywhere and rarely ever see Ms Marvel cosplay at cons, which generally signifies how popular a character is. Where are all of these alleged Ms Marvel fans who are allegedly buying truckloads of Ms Marvel trades?
Cyborg works best in a team, either with Titans or JLA. Cyborg is a good character but does not work as a solo guy, atleast with the way he is currently being written. DC editorial does not seem to understand Cyborg or anything about him other than he's a black guy and is on the CN Teen Titans cartoons.

rest of the panel is the dumb cunts giving themselves back pats because of checklist reasons like "we have a lot of books by women now" instead of successful sales and talking about diversity.

>what is comicsgate People who bitch about sjws in the comics industry (mostly conservatives), here are some common complaints. -They want ham-fisted political commentary out of comics -Stop desexualizing sexy characters for the sake of feminism. -They hate it when old characters are nerfed/killed/degraded and their replacements are random diverse ones made for woke points -Want comic pros to stop attacking fans on twitter and stop sperging about politics. -Want to be free to support whatever they want politically without having sjw pros trying to get them fired behind the scenes.
Overall they want politics out because the sjws are too retarded to handle it right and they want old characters to be respected and not changed for woke points.
There is a lot more autism involved from the CG crowd and the sjw pros but none of it really matters all that much. If you really want to dive into it then check kiwifarms.

Andy Khouri is not a molester of any kind (as far as I know). Khouri hired Eric Esquivel the child rapist and sexual abuser in to the DC and Warner Brothers family, but as far as I know, Khouri himself is not an abuser or a molester.

Well they did totally remove everything that made her endearing to audiences. People loved that she was a regular suburban fanfiction writing nerd in highschool that got to play superhero and fangirl over each actual hero she ran into. She was perfect as the individual teen point of view character living in the Marvel Universe.
Then other writers took over and made her into the same damn generic action girl that every other hero is written as and now nobody cares. and then the team book writers wanted to make her out to be the stoic perfect leader character like some kind of female teen Captain America or something with is a complete turn from the original characterization. Now nobody gives a shit about her except to add some minority points to a book.
She actually started out as something unique and interesting, and was later reduced to a token minority to be added to a team to show that Marvel has token minorities in their teams.
IIRC Wilson was still writing the book up until a while ago. I think the problems were like this:
-They put in an unnecessary relaunching of the title (which showed that relaunching books too many times have a negative effect that harms even books that just relaunched for the first time) -They placed Kamala on the Avengers too soon -Too many other writers were inconsistent with Kamala's character -Civil War II derailed things -2016 election drama
Anthony Ramirez
No one ever wants to just make a damn superhero book out of Carol. It's always tons of preaching and fighting back against misogyny and showing off how cool she is over and over again.
Just make a normal story where she fights bad guys and saves people, build up a side cast and some villains or something. Her latest series launching straight into a story of leading captured women against random forgotten 70s era Captain Misogyny and his army of evil barbarian men is just too annoying and preachy to bother with. And the story dragged on for months and months.
Wow his female freind kinda seems like a joyless bitch

Putting her in Avengers at all was a problem. She works best as the local neighborhood hero. Putting her on the premiere team is exactly what made her into the same cookie cutter superhero as everyone else dropping her whole characterization completely.

This isn't unusual. The direct market is exceptional because of how it is structured. We can assume by and large that sales closely reflect actual readership (bookscan too, since it measures point of purchase data.) But not stuff like this. Which is why publishers only boast of books printed/books shipped through these things.
William Gutierrez
Yea privileged white male Spider-Man maybe. REAL Spider-Man would fuck up misogynists and homophobbes all day and night....then maybe do something about bank ribbers. I actually go to many public libraries, to work and study, and do not see many Kamala TPBs. I live in Los Angeles and Burbank and the libraries here are not exactly tiny.
If Ms Marvel school library sales are so massive, why doesn't Marvel advertise it? For example, why doesn't Marvel market the fact that Ms Marvel is allegedly the most popular super hero with school kids in America or the #1 seller?

Anyway, I didn't mean to imply that this is where the books went. I don't know where the books went. I just wanted to point out this possibility and how difficult it is to translate sales through those channels into actual readership. They certainly shouldn't be weighed equally against direct market sales data in discussions about popularity.
This reminds me of that Baltimore mayor scandal. Her book "sold" 100,000 copies, yet no one recalls ever seeing one.

the direct market is the only market tanking. Digital and bookstores continue to grow. Khouri and Amanat are merely symptoms of the Big 2's continued insistence on clinging to the dying direct market.

Joseph Lee
>I meant mainly school libraries. There are around 90K elementary schools alone in the US. If every one of them got one copy, that's a pretty chunk of change.
What evidence is there to suggest that all 90k elementary schools purchased Kamala TPBs, or even 50% of schools did? One can't simply believe that Kamala comics are selling out in school libraries across the nation without seeing any evidence to support it.
It seems like "muh school libraries sales" excuse is the new "muh digital sales" excuse. even exist.

Comicsgate and gamergate were the result of the growing resentment between customers and the nepotists and cronyists of the industry. Particularly, you tend to see tribalism occurring between comics journalists and comic professionals. Each one shills for and protects the other. Groups that disagree with them tend to be silenced and deplatformed or even doxxed. Gamergate and comicsgate are the movements that were made to counter the corruption within the industry.

>The sales that matter are the trades. Trade sales don't keep monthly floppies alive. There have been one or two occasions where trade sales revived a dead series, but that was only a statement made by Marvel, and Marvel is never honest.
Ms. Marvel was the only Marvel book without a movie behind it to sell in the top 750 graphic novels last year.
Meanwhile DC is in complete freefall so the problems are clearly not entirely at Khouri's feet.
Jaxon Parker
You're taking this the wrong way. I'm gently implying that Ms Kamala can simultaneously have large print runs, and not be popular or a big money maker. I'm implying there is a lot of room for shenanigans in the school/library trade that are not in direct market data.
I don't know where these books went. It's almost impossible to know.
Noah Howard
trade sales are vastly more important than floppies. Every company in the direct market, including DC and Marvel, makes more money off trades than floppies. DC's evergreen books like Watchmen and TDKR are basically what keep the company afloat, not monthlies.
William Bell
where is the evidence of massive ms marvel sales?

>trade sales are vastly more important than floppies. Trades rely on floppies. Trades are comprised of a collection of floppies. If a series of floppies don't sell well, then there isn't an incentive to keep publishing that series.
>Every company in the direct market, including DC and Marvel, makes more money off trades than floppies. This is true, but trades from the Big 2 wouldn't exist without floppies. A year ago Dan Slott begged customers to use pull lists at their comic shops in order to ensure certain books get ordered more. He made it clear that the life of a book series is based on how many orders are made month to month. It's why Carol Danvers books keep getting relaunched. No one buys them.

that is precisely why DC and Marvel are floundering, they refuse to move away from the direct market. Meanwhile Scholastic is trampling all over everyone just publishing graphic novels aimed at kids, and Image and Dark Horse put the primary focus on trades over floppies.
Jeremiah Garcia
Match up? Not really IMO, Takahashi starts off brillliant but doesn’t keep up, with Maison Ikkoku being an exception. So I absolutely love her short work but I’m not that hot on her longer stuff.
Charles Foster
Chris Sims, back in his pre-Comicsalliance days as a comics blogger, would routinely give Valerie D'Orazio shit on her blog and was aggressive about it. He apologized for it and realized the lasting damage on her mental health he had.
Easton Diaz
>Jordan White, who oversaw the disastrous last couple years of X-Men being promoted us exhibit A. Not true. JDW was on star wars comics and then on X-men just last year overseeing Hickman new run
Josiah Reed
he also shat on her comics that she wrote - namely Punisher. A lot of people took to twitter after he got hired to write for Marvel because they felt someone who'd changed over the years but still harassed someone shouldn't get to write comics
David Moore
So he shit on a woman who was actually verifiable sexually assaulted by a DC editor (Mike Carlin, there was a lawsuit), and then got hired by Marvel later on? Jesus, looking it up, looks like Jordan White up there was one of his defenders
Andrew Brooks
The Ms Marvel trades do very well in conventional book stores
Oliver Wood
seems like eeven the classics are selling much less than it was. of course Khouri isn't the only to blame
John Clark
>This man is clearly Jewish, please do not his talent-less performance and nepotistic hiring practices reflect poorly on legitimate whites it is a joke. he is not jewish
Asher Turner
I think he was shitting on her comics, but yeah it's kind of fucked either way. I used to read his column all the time too.
Ayden Ramirez
Last thread people were calling it that.
Adrian Hernandez
so literally no one until this one article tried to make it seem like it was a common nickname
Cameron Reyes
This. SJWs don't seem to understand why people get upset about a character they've been reading for years, of not decades getting ruined, and don't get upset over some random new character's comic not being good.
Carter Smith
If the shoe fits. NuVertigo is still a better nickname.
Levi Jones
Inuyasha has 56 volumes. FMA has 10
Ethan Price
Wait that's wrong. I was supposed to say double
Bentley Jackson
Get woke, go broke
Sebastian Ortiz
So did Zoe fuck him or did he hire her for cool kid points.
Benjamin Long
I assume the former.
Matthew Perez
I don't think any fucking happened but he really wanted her to like him. He probably took her out to lunch a few times but it never went anywhere.
Young Animal is coming back so I don't care. That's been more Vertigo than nuVertigo since it launched
Nathaniel Perez
Vetigo was problematic and white. Why was it Sand MAN and not Sand They/Them?
Lucas Bailey
Well since 100% of everything they read, watch, live and breathe is politics and rhetoric, they assume everyone else is the exact same thing and acts the same way. So if someone does not care for their politics politics politics comics, then clearly that's because they are opposite politically aligned from them and probably a MAGA hat wearing alt-right Trump Fan that was triggered by what they saw.
Even then they expect people to patron their work and buy it anyway even if the story is weak because it sends a good message and is perfectly politically right. So they expect people to buy it to support people they agree with.
It never ever occurs to them ever that someone just does not like it and did not want to buy it. That makes no sense to them.
>Blacker had no prior background writing comic books I realize that this is pasta from a gooberGater ... but Jesus H Christ: comicbookdb.com/creator.php?ID=40843
Jose Perry
the absolute state of casualgate
Grayson Powell
>goes from writing that to retarded feminazi schlock What the fuck happened?
Gavin Ortiz
Leftism is a mental disorder.
Ayden King
Comicsgate is literally just the exact same shit Yea Forums has been complaining about for the last decade, but given a name.
Colton Carter
Comicsgate is e-celebs stretching Yea Forums posts into 20 minute videos to fish for views and hock their own shitty comics
Adam Reyes
You "anti-Comicsgate" retards are more obsessed with ecelebs than anyone else.
John Mitchell
go worship Uncle Ethan's dick a little more, casualgater
Leo Scott
Wow who could've ever guessed that a guy whose previous experience before being hired as an editor for DC was "writes shitty columns for ComicsAlliance" would be bad at his job? Really jogs the ol' noggin' it does.
David Jackson
Reminder that the ComicsAlliance guys use this site They were laughing when they destroyed the career of that JL8 guy and specifically named Yea Forums
Dominic Jenkins
D'Orazio was an insane, attention-starved cunt. The Carlin stuff for example seems like bullshit since nothing's ever come of it. If, in the last few years of "woke" bullshit in comics she can't get a job while fucking Kate Leth could then that says a lot about how she's viewed by a lot of people in the industry and it doesn't really reflect well on her.
Also Sims is actually a competent comic writer so I don't really care that he trolled her 15 years ago.
Juan Bailey
See what I mean?
Lucas Perez
Khouri id literally right. The only addendum to his tweet would be to emphasize that you were too young and stupid to recognize and understand the obvious political ramifications and subtext that was always there and that's why you have this completely false and delusional "comics didn't used to be political, I just want to read good comics, a bloo bloo bloo!" persecution complex about the issue.
Parker Young
Comicsgate is literally people riding the "Oh I am so oppressed as a conservative, please give me money!" grift and exploiting every subgle asshat fanbiy who thinks comics over night became terrible because they weren't exactly like the 90s anymore. It's fueled entirely by narcissistic self-entitlement and anti-SJW fervor which in practice just resukts in whining about minorities getting representation in comics which is apparently such a divisive issue despite books like X-men being hugely successful for doing it for decades.
Wyatt Jones
>Getting ruined
You're literally being hysterical over a character going through changes, which will not even stick around forever because that's the feature of comics, everything eventually goes back to the old status quo. You're making it sound like it's the ebd of the world like a entitled baby, despite having no such issues when the same fucking thing happened in the 80s, the 90s and the 00s. You hate change, and blame whatever convenient excuse you can latch onto.
Angel Morales
>"Lol who even cares about comics anyway??" Also, the changes SJWs have been making for the last decade have been indefensibly crimgeworthy, and not even for a good reason. Neck yourself.
Wyatt Jackson
The real difference is that politics used to be "let's shit on this country we're at war with", and not "fuck white people".
Noah Bell
>You're literally being hysterical over a character going through changes MCU making billions and the retarded people at Marvel Comics decided to push out all the MCU characters and replace them with woke diverse nobodies. Have fun defending that.
Jayden Walker
>Muh movies >Muh synergy
Movies don't sell ongoing comics. They sell collections. Collections of the material the movies adapt. This is a complete fucking non-issue.
John Wilson
Nothing is as cringe worthy as grown men crying that comics no longer pander to them 100%
Jaxon Fisher
Nobody at all likes your "diverse woke" SJW bullshit. Comic fans don't like it. Retailers don't like it. Even Marvel's CEO said your bullshit doesn't sell. I'm not sure why you think you're in like-minded company here.
Jack Hernandez
Nobody bought the comics because nobody wanted to see your donut steel OC niggers. They wanted to see Stark, Thor, etc... you know, the characters they saw in the movie.
Noah Morgan
According to this board comics like Batman and Immortal Hulk are SJW now, and they still sell a lot of comics.
Joshua Barnes
And nothing is stopping you from buying literally hundreds of collections where the characters appeared, fucking retard. And that doesn't even take into account how unrecognizable the MCU characters are compared to their comic counterparts, unless you think comics should just emulate whatever the movies are doing at the moment, in which case you're such a filthy casual your opinion belongs into the garbage bin.
Connor Miller
>unless you think comics should just emulate whatever the movies are doing at the moment Compared to how shit the comics have been for the last decade, that's a fucking fantastic idea.
Ethan Hughes
Funny, because thats exactly where all the issues of your overshipped legacy character comics ended up.
Eli Nelson
Ewing has always been a SJW and Yea Forums sucks his dick
Sebastian Lewis
Riri, Miles, Moon Girl, Nadia, Gay Iceman, Kamala, etc. are all still around and appearing in different books.
Jackson Edwards
Because he is one of the all time greats.
Leo Collins
They're all failing miserably or get shoved into a team book that also fails.
Isaiah Perez
Sounds based. When's the court date?
Landon Perry
>Inuyasha mangaka is richer than FMA mangaka? Try the Sailor Moon mangaka for the latter
Owen Thompson
Yeah, in the fucking 40s. Meanwhile comics like Watchmen and TDKR are incredibly political in the modern sense.
Charles Flores
Well the greatest part is they didn't. Yale's still doing his thing after all while Farinas had a fucking miniseries at Dark Horse cancelled after only one issue.
That was honestly worse than a lot of the stuff these types accuse others of and I don't even care about him or JL8. Remember that they admitted they'd had the pictures for a long time and would pass them around to laugh at. They sat on something damaging and then used their positions working in the press (such as it is) to help one of their buddies try to take him down simply because the guy held a grudge over either professional jealousy, petty anger over a piece of art or both.
Chase Green
Weren’t you crying that a female character was killed in a Star Wars comic?
Cooper Walker
Takahashi might be a hack but she's had success after success and constant work since the early '80s/late '70s. Ignoring the smaller stuff she did like Mermaid Saga all in a row she had: Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2 and then InuYasha.
When Maison Ikkoku is the most "obscure" of those works that says a lot.
William Morales
>Japanese women in comics work hard and produce a lot of high-quality, top-selling works (Takahashi, CLAMP, Takeuchi, etc.)
Maybe the lesson is that women in the Burgerland comics scene need to just work harder.
Jaxson Gray
Everyone needs to put more effort in. When you base your entire operation around one specific genre and it gets BTFO by a comedy manga (OPM) and a generic shounen (MHA), some serious soul searching needs to be done.
Adrian Butler
There is literally nothing dumber than antagonizing potential readers and going "don't like it, don't read it" because guess what's going to happen then.
Benjamin Mitchell
Its a weird SJW thing they do, and always backfires.
Lincoln Garcia
I like how they'd "heard things" before the rumors got out. They knew he was shit and had no problem working with him and it's only the fact that it all got exposed that forced them to step away. What scumbags.
Anthony Watson
AFAIK it's only the first trade that actually does well.
Anthony Reed
OPM is literally a parody of shounen, sentai and other manga themes/tropes, not american super heroes, he's dressed like Anpanman for fucks sake
Ryder Rogers
That's just "civil war" type events for you.
Jace Howard
You have not answered the question.
Answer it please instead of trying to deflect.
Wyatt Sanders
Allies? Try dicksucking slaves. Allies would imply that they are compensated well for their efforts. That's how you maintain alliances. These assholes expect people to support them for nothing in return because "it's the right thing to do"
Hunter Powell
>he said, hours later
Elijah Powell
I'm pretty inclined to agree. I know the manga industry has it's foibles, but good, quality work still comes out of Japan. Which is way more than I can say about pretty much every publisher in America at this point.
Comics have always been woke. The problem is the pool of creators is dwindling with old people dying and most people choosing to go creator owned. They're giving a lot of people chances and that means there's going to be a lot of trash. But there's been some good shit too. Surprisingly Eve Ewing has been doing pretty well with Riri, not that most people give a shit.
The internet has made it even easier to obsess and focus on the bad shit since the internet isn't going to forget that comics like America were a thing even though it died quickly. There's been loads of "SJW" comics in the past that most people remember fondly because they didn't have the internet to nail into their heads that that one little quip about racism was an attack on them.
Flintstones was full of SJW talking points but it's well crafted and applies those concepts to it's world.
Austin Taylor
The problem is though that a lot of nerds around here freak out at comics produced by the big 2 that aren't strictly cape all the time. Marvel and DC used to make a variety of comics. Love stories, Horror, etc. Things that Japan does all the time.
Current Runaways reminds me of some Shoujo stuff I read and yet I see people all the time complain there's not enough action in it there should be more fights. As if that's how the original run was. Ms. Marvel under Wilson was a lot like early Sailor Moon. There was action but it was mostly character driven.
"Fights" don't make good stories. Fights don't sell manga like Ore Monogatari. It's an element of some good stories, for sure.
Lucas Morgan
This isn't redit, faggot. Nobody cares about that shit, threads stay active for hours, or sometimes an entire day, not just for an hour or two after it's made. Get out.
Joshua Green
imagine ripping rich the leech style for credibility
Adam Cook
But that is pretty much the only group that they actually do pander to. They are definitely not for kids anymore. Priced out of most kids range and out of reach in comic shops only, plus shit like Heroes in Crisis, what the fuck kids would ever want to read that?
Ian Cook
I have never understood this mindset. For some reason celebrities and content creators love going on twitter and telling people to not watch/read their work and then once it does poorly in sales they have no idea what went wrong.
William Fisher
Comics have always been woke. But white people didn't care or bother to notice as long as they were not the targets. Now their the target and people are waking up to their special brand of white supremacy bullshit and they don't like it very much.
Isaiah Watson
That's been Marvel's MO for years since the Quesada era, the only difference back then was that they were selling and puting decent stories besides the horseshit ones so they could afford being antagonistic.
Now comicbook publishers really are attacking their core audience directly besides saying this while selling like shit.
Lucas Green
He was accused. Not convicted. You're committing libel.
Jordan Hill
Are you implying that "fuck white people" is a perfectly ok political stance?
Gabriel Bell
>shit like Heroes in Crisis, what the fuck kids would ever want to read that? They're trying to pander to 13 year olds, except those don't care for comics nowadays.
Logan Morgan
Yes. Just to piss you off.
Liam Myers
>what the fuck kids would ever want to read that?
Kids who read comics. Because they think it's an event that's important so they have to read it. Are you retarded? Kids read absolute garbage all the fucking time. You probably read garbage and felt special for liking Naruto.
