And that is that I was going to post the First Wave miniseries but I'm tired as fuck and gonna go to bed Will try to do it tomorrow, or someone else can try
It's: First Wave #1-6 Doc Savage #1-18 (#18 was released on digital only) The Spirit #1-17 First Wave Special (2011)
Christopher Peterson
at least comics back then were still allowed to have sexy female characters. that is far better then the constant sjw and feminist propaganda we get these days
Carson Wright
Fucking die.
Josiah Myers
Not First Wave specifically but Dc’s The Spirit was fucking great
Ayden Hall
>DC published a comic where Batman cops a feel on-page
Ian Ramirez
Doesn’t sound out of character for old school Batman
Thanks for tagging in user, but what If OP is a faggot?

Kayden Hall
Yeah, the Spirit series prior to First Wave was pretty good.
Asher Fisher
Who'd win a fair fight between the two greatest detectives of their respective universe ?
Doc was trained at an early age in several combat forms, while Bruce started training his fighting skills around 18
However on one hand, Doc was handed over his training by experts who were acquaintances of his dad so he has no merit, while Bruce had to sweat blood and tears to find teachers around the world willing to take him under their tutelage
Alrighty then You'll notice that this issue was published in September while 2 was in June, just a little three month delay Also the Doc and Spirit comics began publishing in June
>You'll notice that this issue was published in September while 2 was in June
The cover month isn't the same as the month they're published, that's done to tell the retailer when to change the book. #2 was probably actually out in April and #3 was out in July since DC's stuff is usually out two months before the cover date.
so Rima did appear I forgot all about it its such a random fucking thing you could have anyone from the JSA but no, it's Rima they should have had Congo Jim too if that's what they were going for
I forgot who else they planned to have, I know they showed Black Canary in the notes, but I almost swear they were considering putting Wildcat and/or Sandman (Dodds) in.
I think a retro Batman comic set in the 30s/40s like the Elseworlds comics Gotham Noir, Nine Lives, Gary Giannis contribution to Batman Black & White, and some other stuff could be really good
btw did anyway read the Dynamite comic? I thought that was pretty good, had a very Alan Moore/Tom Strong vibe with each issue being a single self contained story and set in a subsequent decade until it ended in the 21st century I liked that rather than being a big multi-part, although I remember there was a lot of narration assuring people it was all building up which I thought was unnecessary
And that is that What followed was a 17 issue Doc Savage comic and a 17 issue The Spirit comic And one more First Wave special So what did we all think?

Don't you mean... Bronze

Chase Taylor
Really living up to the Savage part of that name.
Josiah Sanders
Look at what Doc says in the next page He knew it was an act
Jordan Allen
You first attempt at this died unmourned so you're trying it again?
BTW, Doc did not have "everything handed to him on a silver plate" (should be "platter"), he had everything taken away from him earlier than Bruce. As an infant, he was given to a team of trainers, scientists, engineers, doctors, etcetera, and didn't even have a *hint* of a childhood. Bruce was a richboi who lived in the lap of luxury for at least the first 8 years of his life. Clark Savage Jr. was indoctrinated like a child soldier into the life his father set for him.
Isaac Martin

Lucas Butler
Doc would almost have a kind of induced autism or sociopathy
Jackson Rodriguez
>Making Dolan dirty Does Azz just not like the hero having a non-shitty supporting cast?
Josiah Peterson
The man gives criminals he captures amnesia, via invasive surgery, in the name of reforming them.
Isaac Butler
oh its much worse than amnesia, he gives them a lobotomy
Jeremiah Gutierrez
>Azz's weird genderbent Ebony Brown will never step on you
Charles Reed
My knowledge of the Blackhawks comes mainly from Zinda in BoP. It's weird seeing them roll so damn MEAN.
Christian Lopez
I think Azzarello's intent was making people morally grey for the First Wave universe, which was why Dolan's not really an honest cop in this universe.
Cameron Howard
>Doc Savage >morally grey u wot
Xavier Mitchell
Probably.
Josiah Brooks
>Azzarello
Not even once
Jaxson Gutierrez
>You first attempt at this died unmourned so you're trying it again
Yes
Isaac Perez
>Doc did not have "everything handed to him on a silver plate" >he was given to a team of trainers, scientists, engineers, doctors, etcetera
It's literally what I'm saying
Liam Bell
I think it kind of felt padded out a bit. I liked the the kind of mishmash feel of the cast, but kinda wished they hewed some of them closer to the original characterizations.
Hudson Campbell
I think that most of us would call that "deprivation of a normal life". This was essentially human experimentation...on a child. ho could not consent. After a time, the thought of not consenting would've been driven from his mind, if it ever showed its face to begin with.
Oliver Peterson
Yeah he did fuck this I remember there issues where Batman was on the cover and in like only 1 fucking panel of the comic Yes padded I think that's a common problem with a lot of comics these days, writers have become accustomed to writing for the TPB collection He was given no time for luxury or excess in that upbringing
Blake Rogers
Yup. Interestingly, they addressed it in the 80s -90s DC Doc Savage comic.
Blake Russell
>I think that's a common problem with a lot of comics these days, writers have become accustomed to writing for the TPB collection
Yeah, I mean, I feel like First Wave is padded, and yet I still felt like it's less padded compared to some other comics that've come out in the 2010's.
Thomas Wilson
Are the blackhawks evil in this universe? They're going out of their way to go after someone they know is a crimefighter
Ryan Thomas
IIRC I think the idea in First Wave was that Doc Savage is the only guy who's moral while everyone else has questionable morals, but I can't remember which interview it was.
Jordan Howard
We're talking about training to fight, luxuries is for sissies
Matthew Lewis
Ah, alright. I'll keep that in mind as I'm reading.
Lincoln Clark
So now that the bronze has settled, where did First Wave go wrong? Should I post the Doc and Spirit comics?
Adrian Mitchell
>So now that the bronze has settled, where did First Wave go wrong?
Several problems:
-They were coming off a pretty good Spirit run done by Cooke and others. The funny thing is, the Spirit First Wave series is actually the best out of the First Wave comics. But it's kind of a come down especially since you look at Azzarello's notes about how he thinks Ebony would work as a girl, but we see that Cooke managed to make Ebony work in a modernized way in the previous series. -For a series that was intent on making a universe, they didn't really feel cohesive. Part of the problem was the main mini wasn't enough for that, part of it was probably doing Spirit and Doc Savage series that doesn't require them to reference rights to DC characters or each other. -From a sales standpoint, I hate to say this but they really should've used more Batman, because he's the only character that younger readers at the time would've recognized, and maybe The Spirit if they were willing to read the Cooke series. (part of the problem is also that older pulp fans were turned off by the takes on Doc and The Avenger) But even with the First Wave mini and the Special we really don't get much info about Batman other than he's a Batman who uses guns. There's no explanation why he uses guns, you have to know that the 1939 Batman uses guns.... But if you know that, then you're wondering why First Wave Batman seems like a traditional Batman instead that just happens to use guns. Oh and Gotham is somewhere in Los Angeles instead, this could've been interesting to explore, but they never got the time to. -As mentioned earlier the main mini was really padded out.
Ayden White
>Should I post the Doc and Spirit comics?
Yeah sure, but remember Doc's series goes up to #18. I think readcomicsonline actually had it.
Jaxson Garcia
I don't have that #18
Jonathan Rodriguez
So with Doc and Spirit both coming out concurrently I'm not sure how to handle posting to I alternate between them or just do the whole run?
I'm reading through the Doc Savage series again and I just realized I forgot they did throw a few references to Batman and the Blackhawks within the series, so at least they were trying to do that.
Benjamin Turner
Its hard to tell when they take place, at first glance in First Wave you think its retro but the Doc comics are decidedly futuristic at times
The intent they had was to do something like Batman: The Animated Series where it'd be a fusion of retro and futuristic. I don't think they pulled it off that well in general because it felt like an either/or instead of a blend.
I think it would've helped if they set a few things in stone first, like what exactly was that war that Doc, his men, the Blackhawks, etc were in, prior to First Wave. I know obviously they didn't want to do World War I, but there was way too many vague things about this world.
