Batman comics from 30s and 40s.

batman brave and bold is a good cartoon

Why not just read the Batman comics from back then?

Well, you might read the Batman comics from the 30s and 40s.
Other than that, not much comes to mind, authors usually keep him in the present to make use of technology. And when they don't, it's '66 Adam West Batman.

The Batman/Captain America team up
Howard Chaykin did one in the 1990s, although it did also have FDR meeting Hitler :\
Gary Giani did a nice short in the Batman B&W, it was very reminiscent of his work on The Shadow at Dark Horse complete with Autogyro
They're kinda lame

They are an acquired taste. Have you read Sandman Mystery Theatre?

Yes I have the first two omnibus volumes

And is that the sort of modern tone and writing that you want in a 30s/40s set Batman story?

Last year I picked up a 40's detective noir told from Dick Graysons perspective. It was a who dunnit about the death of catwoman. Cant remember the name, but it was a damn good read. Ill try to find it.

I don't know what you mean

I don't either. Fuck.

Isn’t that by Byrne?

The only Batman comics set in the 30s and 40s are the original comics.

What about that Batman/Shadow team-up? Or the First Wave stuff from a decade ago?

Batman: Nine Lives by Dean Motter and Michael Lark

There's also:
DC Comics Presents: Batman — Gotham Noir by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips

Batman: Death by Design by Chip Kidd and Dave Taylor

I can't remember if the Gibbons/Rude World's Finest is a period piece or not.
Batman: Death by Design

The Batman/Capt team up is
I know he has a bit of a reputation but that comic is just plain fun and wholesome

I think the Shadow/Batman comic is set contemporously
First Wave was utter fucking garbage
issue after issue with nothing going on, dull plodding narration, and Batman on the cover despite being in like 1 panel

was Nine Lives a sequel to Gotham Noir?
Which would be another 30s-40s set Batman

>was Nine Lives a sequel to Gotham Noir?
I think they're each stand-alones set in their own universes. Selina Kyle is black in Nine Lives, and Caucasian in Gotham Noir.

same style and look anyway

Wrong. The first 10 issues of detective before Robin shows up are worth it, as is the first appearance of Joker & Catwoman
