And still, white males are the biggest consumers of western comics so black boy isn't going to cut it.
It's why ultimately they had Wolverine be the fucking face of everything until Iron Man came along.
They're just going to give the non-whites a token gesture every few movies.

Also MARVEL is probably biased in wanting the superhero called Captain MARVEL to be the new face of MARVEL. Forget anything you know about comics or even her appeal as a character... as a soulless Hollywood exec focused on the MARVEL Cinematic Universe, if you have a character called "Captain MARVEL" you'll tend to want to invest in them based on name alone.
Putting the word MARVEL on a movie poster guarantees ticket sales so it's only logical to want to invest in making Captain MARVEL a success.
