It was surreal to read and I was considering cancelling my subscription but it looks like Negan will be back next issue and I'm still interested in following his story.

Horse pussy. It’s good because it keeps going, and the continuity is way better than most other long running story formats. For the long-running comic format, it does a LOT better than similar examples in other stories, where everything gets retconned when they switch out a writer, or mangaka who fall into power-level tournament arcs and spend years spinning their wheels, or TV shows that fuck up because they are written on a season basis where characters are at the mercy of the latest iteration of the writers room or whether the actor decides they want to go do something else.

At the very least, it’s better than all the other zombies stories where either everyone dies or the main character escapes.

Thoughts on a possible time skip happening next issue? I loved it and it was a great send off for Rick but definitely felt weird we've finally reached this moment in the comics something which Kirkman has been promising us for years. Carl taunting Sebastian and channeling Negan before he left was pretty funny. I have a feeling the next compendium is going to be the last and Kirkman is going for #250 issues rather than say #300. How is Oblivion Song by the way? I liked the first couple issues but I had to trim it from my pull list but I'm willing to get back into the story since it was pretty fun. What exactly has happened since issue #3? The last one I read

It will be the one where Rick died. His death has been telegraphed for a while now, with how every time people keep trying to give him power he tells them no. His arcs all concluded. If he hadn’t died, he’d have continued to run Alexandria, but even now he’s getting too frail to do any “lead from the front” shit. At best he’d basically retire as protagonist, and someone else would have to pick up where this shit is about to get violent again. Not in the all out war sense, but with the tribes being where they are and establishing range in their territory, they are going to start butting heads with people more competent than the whisperers.

It’s a potential, where Alexandria comes across a grossly more powerful military force who decide to push them out, but I’m thinking more along the lines of having to establish/reclaim lumber mills and quarries and mines and such, only for someone else to want to fight over it, but they don’t want to take over the whole nation. More border disputes, maybe some trade disputes as well.

The army would be a nice touch, if only because even the Saviors were just a LOT of thugs with guns. An actual military with tanks and planes and bombs would be new, especially if they offered a more civilized “your shit is mine” than Negan offered, which would basically be taxes.

Or not even the army, just someone with an oil refinery and enough reserves to have modern vehicle range, giving them a HUGE advantage over the people plopped on farms trying to run engines off ethanol.

Z Nation is kind of batshit sci-fi crazy about 3-4 years into a zombie apocalypse and features a motley crew escorting a human-zombie hybrid to a government test site to extract his immunity. It goes all over the place and gets fairly twisted as the seasons go on (immune guy is able to control zombies, believes they can co-exist; UFOs show up; cyborgs).

Black Summer is the prequel and has none of the camp. 22-40 min episodes are arranged in segments following survivors from a suburb scheduled to be picked up and taken to a shelter but everything goes to hell. Not a ton of zombies but they're shown that one is terrifying enough but when two or three appear you're basically fucked. The characters you follow change frequently over eight episodes due to a variety of reasons.

Everyone is fatigued from The Walking Dead now and I don't think another TV show is going to help things. If he does wrap it up in the volume #200 is in then I'd like it to be some memorial anniversary for Rick's death after say maybe five or ten years pass. It would be neat if he just went through 100 years later seeing how different the world is showing what kind of impact Rick's legacy had.

Last I heard it was on hiatus. I've been thinking about stating it and I was planning on picking up the compendium later in the year. My advice would be to just read Outer Darkness, seems like a good alternative to either The Walking Dead or Saga.

They announced a hiatus of at least a year near the end of 2018. LCS's kind of panicked because it's a big seller that they will now lose sales from for at least 12 months

I'm just annoyed we didn't find out what the rest of the world was like via The Commonwealth. Understandable that they were pretty stingy about their radio but huge missed opportunity to find out just how much damage the plague itself did.

This isn’t going to be the last we see of them. But I also wish we found out something interesting now to rekindle some interest.

I reckon at some point Alexandria and The Commonwealth will wind up becoming one massive super community once Eugene has the trains up and running. I'm guessing this is where that storyline will bring us. Also curious who the new candidates are going to be for the election.

Me too, although I read the Archives edition i love the art but the comic is chaotic as fuck because there are no transitions between scenes and some characters look very similar

Mostly Rick. Ironically, despite it being a big change, nothing of significance will change for the entire comic. Every character is replacable so nobody's death means anything.

I really don't like how this issue completely sidelined Maggie and Michonne's grief. Like shit we didn't even get to see their reactions at all. Rick fucking Grimes is dead. They've been close fucking friends and saved each other's lives for years now and we don't even get to see how they reacted hearing the news or how they feel. Disappointing.

Stopped reading during the battle with Negan. Reading this chapter made me want to pick it up back up, but this thread seems to indicate I made the right move by stopping there.

The comic has some ups and downs between when you stopped and this issue, but I'd say it's worth it. It'll be better too because the slower issues won't seem as slow when you're reading them several at a time.
