How do you fuck up the same story twice, I don't get it

By focusing on filling your movie with famous actors than getting good writers and directors.

Dumb phoneposter.

By not understanding that making Jean a villain isn't some wonderful feminist moment. Sure it's the nerdy, men prefer she stay calm, girl who breaks free of her chains but she goes ballistic. If anything it's a story about shy little girls being terrible vessels or power. Yet they want it to be this big feminist fist raising story.

Then there's the fact that the leg work it takes to set up DP is fucking insane. I hate that audiences have been conditioned to expect MCU tier decompression but you really do need to focus on character interaction leading up for this to pay off.

Also, J Law has no place in it. And wolverine not having his sewer moment (for the second time) is criminal.

The people who make these expressly DONT even glance at the cover of a comic and so they don't give a fuck or even know the story they're adapting. Fox-men aside from 4 flicks has been a complete and utter disaster.

>Another Fox X-men movie is terrible again
>I don't get it
Were you born yesterday?

Executive meddling, and no one like Feige to tell them to fuck off and let them do their thing.

>implying this is worse than Yea Forums fags floodin this place with "name one character that could beat X".

By rushing to it twice.

Disney is paying off critics hard to bury the FoXmen legacy. Can't wait for Quippy Quirky LGBT men presented by Disney later next year.

Kek

Putting aside no X-Men for 5 years confirmed by Feige, the movie is literally Disney's issue right now and they really upped the marketing compared to when it was just Fox. They did everything other than China promos to promote the movie

this, you niggers should always remember to not let your phone battery go below 50%.

I can’t tell if these posts are retardation or bait anymore

Carol's revenge for not doing the Phoenix storyline with her like the original plan

It's almost like people need to care about Jean for the plot to work.

I wonder if they also plan to market on the same level for New Mutants or if they're going to quietly dump it into theaters.

Maybe because the story and the character are overrated shit?

But it's not release yet?

Hire same writer

>Disney is paying off critics hard to bury the FoXmen legacy. Can't wait for Quippy Quirky LGBT men presented by Disney later next year.

they fucking own the Fox-men. It's like shooting your own feet.

You can't reason with that kind of person. Facts don't matter.

Charge your fucking phone

No, it makes sense. They make people think the FoX-Men are bad, so when Disney swoops in and adds them to the MCU, it'll make them look like heroes who will show everyone how it's done. Basically what they did with Spider-Man after Amazing.

Not that I think this is the case. The FoX-Men movies weren't good, critics don't need to be paid to subtly shill for Disney, and no one was hyped for this movie at all.

Anyone got that comic that has a media company saying "your not our target audience" with the fan saying " that's too bad" and finding out their new audience doesn't buy their stuff?

>By not understanding that making Jean a villain isn't some wonderful feminist moment.
I doubt any feminist endeavour is behind that movie.
Feminists are getting tired of seeing powerful women shown as losing control (reactions to GoT s08 come to mind) to reassure the public that only men should be in power.

Copyright needs fixing, if you keep making consistently bad products of an IP you should lose it

Well the problem with that is that they weren't all consistently bad, it's just the bad ones were really bad consistently

Then you have never heard any discussion of the comic.

That's not "fixing" that's rigging. Your opinion of quality is not a legal standard.

Dark Phoenix needs building up. It needs the establishment of the Shi'ar and space x men. It needs to show Jean as the phoenix as a force of good and a slow trickle of her getting darker and darker before being overpowered as fuck.

Instead, they launch into it and make it a 2 hour action film with drama that no one cares about because there's no emotional connection in the films or build up to it. It failed the same way DCEU has because its been rushed.

Easily, the Phoenix saga isn't very good to begin with. A Mojo film would be more fun, or one with Arcade, but it's always Phoenix because 80s.

>Easily, the Phoenix saga isn't very good to begin with.
That's dumb, it's one of the most loved X-stories. You don't get that without it being somewhat good

>how would x fare

Attached: 1510838873957.png (438x589, 627K)

DP is good with the proper build. Fox just rushes into it

>Chris Claremont is going to die without seeing a proper adaptation of his characters and stories

damn

Fox did that fine on their own

because they just flip the Dark Phoenix switch immediately without having a movie with Jean as Phoenix who's maybe starting to slip a bit.

Phoenix saga was built up over a year. Cramming it into a 2 hour movie kills the impact

Stupid phoneposter

i demand to see a screenshot proving that the phone is being charged.

OP here. Sorry, but it's not my picture. Got it from a previous thread

The same writer for both

Easy. It's just another rehash movie like the Apocalpse movie

How do you not understand adaptations twice?

It's the same writer. Not rocket science.

Didn't they say Dark Phoenix was supposed to be Last Stand done right?

>YOU DON'T GET TO JOIN 2019, YOU GO AND POST ON A DESKTOP

Because the Fox X-men movies have been mostly garbage.

The only good movies were made by a pedo rapist. Not much you can do there

How the fuck does she manage to have such a hateable face? On men I'm accustomed, but on women?

Honestly, after watching all the MCU cocksucking in Homecoming and the Far from Home previews, I'd rather take Amazing 3 with all its batshit insanity.

Eh, frankly, the only truly bad were two. It ranged from mediocre and good to excellent. For a series 19 years old long, that's a fine record.
Now, if you counted Electra and the Fantastic Four movies, now that would be something else.

That's mostly a /tg/ thing with the 40K faggots

And then he went and made the well received Freddie Mercury movie, the world is a strange, mad place.

>Another Phoenix wanking movie

>How do you fuck up the same rancid garbage twice, I don't get it

Well, honey, you don't get it because you're just as retarded as the dipshits who keep trying to make that dumb fucking story work.

yeah but I've seen more in the past week or so here

>17 reviews
Can we at least wait for 30 before we shitpost?

I'm sure this has been answered before, but I haven't been keeping up. Why are they doing the same evil jean thing twice?

Simon Kinberg wanted to do it right after X3 but executive meddling JUSTed him yet again.

Is this a serious question when they still haven't managed to fuck up a Fantastic Four movie?

>the only truly bad were two
There are four truly bad ones now, X3, Origins, Apoc and Dark Phoenix. X1 is okay but didn't age well. The rest are good to great, but those really bad ones are really really bad

>For a series 19 years old long, that's a fine record.
There's like 12 movies in that franchise, and Deadpool is completely removed from those movies so that's 10 movies. 10 movies over 19 years. We're not talking about Bond here.

cheap money grabs back to back had them crunch the timeline now no one gaf

I just walked halfway across my apartment to plug in my phone. Thanks homie.

If the Green Lanterns can survive multiversal collapse at 2% charge, I am sure he would do just fine with 2% charged phone.

>Apocalypse
I'll be honest, I don't like that one but I'd argue that's just mediocre instead of bad. So depending of Dark Phoenix (DP, huh?) truly sucking, then that would make 3.
>10 or 12 movies in 19 years
That's still a lot of movies in a relatively small period of time and none of them bombed. And I'd still count Deadpool, it features X-Men and X-Men related characters.

I hate to be that guy, but I honestly think the problem comes from old men misunderstanding what Feminism is and trying to pander to a community they fundamentally do not get. Simon Kinberg wrote this story twice and got it wrong both times by not establishing Jean, the X Men, her relationship to Scott, and her role on the team.

Instead, both films were about her reclaiming her power and failing to "control" it. Eventually they become mixed metaphors for women, saying they should be in control of themselves while also somehow warning that women are ill equipped to handle power because they're held down by "the system" and the men who traumatized them into being evil. It's a decent point, but it's overdone and isn't what the story is about.

Kind of, kind of not. X-Men wasn't made by Fox, they made the movies. The IP is still owned by Marvel (as of 2009, Disney), and is licensed out for film to 20th Century Fox. Disney always had the opportunity to come after Fox, Sony, or Universal to regain rights to film properties if they felt the licensed films were negatively impacting the IP itself (like ASM2 did to Spider-Man sales or X-Men 3 did to comic and merch), but they didn't find the cause worth the money and effort because the films still brought in more cash than Disney was spending on them, which is to say nothing.

That being said, Copyright needs fixing, but not to take away IPs from people who are producing them. Public Domain is shattered and the work Disney's put in to extending copyright on IP is straight up unethical.

oh jeez, THAT bad?

wonder if this increases the chances of New Mutants getting "netflix'd" or just completely burying it and moving on

Attached: mfw.jpg (525x650, 51K)

Same way they fucked up Apocalypse, both movies need a lot of groundwork and buildup. If they're standalone they're goofy and unearned.

The people who read it were kids at the time. Good for kids is just something happening in the plot every ten seconds. That's it

>phoneposter

What was the executive meddling exactly? Take your time.

Shame this movie had none of thee above

>and none of them bombed.
Wolverine did bomb if you use the 2.5 rule

You get the guy who wrote X-Men 3 and make him the director of the Phoenix movie. Because y’know, second times the charm.

On iOS you can crop a screenshot by system tools, no need to post your status bar and tabs.

They said they reshot the ending to prevent it from being a carbon copy of Captain Marvel, but I also guess that it was too late for them to reshoot the beginning since its a carbon copy of Shazam's beginning.

Attached: 1522652597413.jpg (636x616, 67K)

But this time let him direct!

You realize that if they really ruin the X-men so much, people would still dislike them even after a reboot? Remember when there were plans to integrate the Inhumans to the movies but then the show turned out to be horrible and we might never get them in the movies now?

Pretty sure he would‘ve screwed it up by himself as well.

Holy fuck
>both are Captain Marvel
>both released in the same year
Should have released this movie sooner, then.

Why does the story have to be about feminism at all? Isn't making every movie about a woman a metaphor while men get a lot of fun or dramatic movies and only a fraction is a commentary sexist? And yes, I get that it's easy and gives free marketing, it's still garbage.

>x-men franchise has dozens of iconic characters, villains, and plot lines to choose from
>only like 3 good movies in 20 years not counting deadpool
>ignore all the sci-fi elements and the supporting cast to focus on JEEEEAAAAAN, magneto, logan and now mystique
>can't even build up or establish plot lines anymore because we need to fit everything into a single film
>can't even sort out the film continuity because of retcons and time travel shit
at least we'll always have the 90s cartoon

We Literally have the same thing down here every day. Hell, some autist kept spamming death battle for two fucking weeks.

>thinking New Mutants is even going to be released

Reminder that they establish that its been 30 years since they made mutants be public, yet none of the characters look like they aged.

They initially wanted to digitally age the actors, but the reshoots and BTS mess resulted in not enough time for the aging effects to be applied onto the reshot bits. They then decided to just leave out the aging effects entirely.

Having seen the movie, it was really quite off putting and stupid how fast the humans just turned on the mutants after Jean fucked up some police.

>establish that they've been pretty helpful and active enough to be considered heroes
>get enough good cred that Charles has a direct line to the president for emergencies
>Charles is even invited to a party for celebrating their latest space rescue right before Jean runs away
>one moment of a mutant killing cops has them be paranoid again and the president disconnects their line to him

So your telling me, that within those years, there's been no incident of some upstart mutant messing up some cops cause they couldn't control their powers/feeling like they're hot shit?

Wolverine sewer moment doesn't work if he's already treated as a superstar badass by the franchise and the audience
It was basically his turning point

Half of them were shit

X3

>Bryan Singer left to do Superman Returns and his script got ditched
>Fox rushed the movie into production to beat SR without a proper script
>Matthew Vaughn was set to direct but dropped out weeks before filming when he realized the movie was heading towards disaster
>Production was so rushed James Marsden, Rebecca Romjin and Anna Paquin weren't fully available, so Cyclops, Mystique and Rogue had to be killed off/depowered
>This demanded further rewrites as they all had substantial roles in the early scripts
>Exec producer Tom Rothman hated cosmic stuff and forced Kinberg to remove all references to Phoenix being cosmic
>Rothman also demanded that the movie focus on the Cure storyline that he liked best and feature Magneto heavily because Ian McKellen was popular
>Budget was balooning up, so the original third act in the White House had to be scrapped.
>The midpoint setpiece with Alcatraz Island (originally a mutant prison where Magneto recruited his army) had be be reshuffled into the third act battle.
>Constant on-set rewrites.

Dark Phoenix

>Pitched to Fox as a two-parter epic (Part 1 is Phoenix, Part 2 is Dark Phoenix)
>Fox demanded it be cut down to one movie.
>Budget was slashed, requiring most of the space/cosmic stuff to be cut including the final act with a proper alien invasion.
>Cobbled together ending tested poorly, requiring reshoots to fix the third act.
>Marketing department fired amidst the Disney/Fox merger, leaving the movie barely promoted up until last movie.

Two different, but very rancid kinds of shitshows.

Well, shit.
