Leave it to Ewing to be one to explain why his plot lines got ignored by other writers.

Attached: Guardians of the Galaxy Annual 001-009.jpg (1988x3056, 1.95M)

>Prince Dezan
Leave it to Ewing to be the only person to remember that this guy existed.

Now this is really unexpected. I thought Carol had her body.

Let's see how long that lasts.

hitchhiker's reference! WIN

So which plot line are you looking forward to being addressed? Is Cates doing them all?

Attached: Guardians of the Galaxy Annual 001-033.jpg (1988x3056, 1.15M)

Can they please find the not useless joke Peter Quill now please?

Any guesses on who this new Patriarch is? I doubt it's Magus.

no! bad dog! no biscuit!

cosmo!! no!!!

I liked all the stories, but Rich, Quasar and Darkhawk are the ones i'm looking forward the most.

...I hope the wife has a thing for shotas

Why did Spencer even bother creating Avril if he was going to do nothing with her and then just kill her off?

He also created the retardation that was the shield.

I can forgive that one. It was a plot device that was required for his story to work, and it's just some sci-fi tech so it's easy to accept.

Where did he get another pair of Quantum Bands?

Some people speculate that Marvel simply changed their minds. It's odd that they would make a focus in two events, comic teaser, and put her in future fight if they didn't initially plan to use her.

The last time something like this existed without reality manipulation was with the red shield dome trapping the X-men and even that had some restrictions. This was just bullshit.

He wanted somebody to make a heroic sacrifice to destroy the shield
Be glad it wasn't Wendell

either he made her Quasar with the intention to make her cannon fodder or he simply no longer wanted to use her anymore.

>Are they Canadian dollars?

Attached: smug puck.png (533x507, 432K)

I hope this was set-up for Ewing doing a Nova book.

>Firelord
Well, shit just got big

Blonsky? The hell is he doing there?

Apparently he got thrown into space recently.

>I thought Carol had her body.
No, it was actually in her book that we got confirmation she died. She saw her explode.
Then again, it's Ewing we're talking here, the guy who introduced The Far Shore (which thankfully no one else has dared to touch), so nothing's truly dead unless they will it so.
I do think they had plans with her, but they just didn't commit to them. I don't believe for a second her reason to exist was to be a plot point, but then again, Quasar gets very little respect.
>Where did he get another pair of Quantum Bands?
The only real plothole here. Let's just assume they couldn't be destroyed.

>Is Cates doing them all?
God I fucking hope not.
That or a new Quasar book. Whatever was hinted there was ominous enough to make me interested, and as a huge Quasar fan I'd love if Ewing was in a new run.
I wouldn't be mad if they did a new Nova book though, but I'd give it to someone like Derek Landy or Sims/Bowers to play with, since they've done a great job in their respective minis. Darkhawk also needs some love.

That's not Abomination, that Ch'od of the Starjammers

So who is Vox going to be a villain for? This the third time that Kree stuff has came up in this run.

She didn't explode. She kinda just fell

Attached: We don't see her after this.jpg (1041x1600, 483K)

I'm honestly surprised that they haven't brought Yon-Rogg and Starforce back as villains for Captain Marvel yet.

The whole "she's gone" thing has been taken as confirmation that she died, not only there but in the main book.
But hey, I'm not going to play devil's advocate here, I'm glad they decided not to kill her off for good, I thought she had potential and so far it might lead to an interesting story with Wendell.

Yon-Rogg came back 5 years ago, Minn-Erva's been around too

>Carol has made Canada the most important nation in the cosmos
Thanks Carol. Tharol.

So is rich not nova prime anymore?

Actually yeah, what is up with beer's prize lately?

Oh good, I was afraid we were going to gloss over her.

I forgot, but didn't a GoTG run a year or two (maybe 3?) have a story about them finding one of the bands or something?

Nice to have the Lifebringer loss addressed.

It's unclear since the Loveness' Nova mini and Worldmind being trapped in the Cancerverse. It really hasn't been brought up since.
Those were Mar-Vell's Nega Bands. I don't think it was ever explained how Mar-Vell's body ended up in a spacesuit and why was it there, but that's how they found them.
Currently, the Nega Bands are in Talonar/Robbie's possession, who became the Dark Starkhawk.
And it had to be Ewing, obviously.

Attached: All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy (2017-) 006-017.jpg (1193x1834, 407K)

it was addressed in the F4 too.

That applies to like 70% of Secret Empire's plot.

This Cates era is amazing in that it proposes to bring back all the elements I liked from DnA and then just executes it in a way I can't give a shit.

Angry Dick Rider (started in the Darkhawk mini) isn't very interesting and the Darkhawk stuff here proper is pretty aimless. It's like they want to bring DnA back sucking the fun out of it.

Duggan's run was better so far before it derailed into Countdown stuff and I didn't even think very highly of it.

One of the fans at the FB Nova page met Ewing at a comic store in Bongland and apparently Ewing told him that he had plans for Rich that ge couldn't divulge. He specifically asked about Rich but here's hoping he also does something with Wendell.

Judging by this story I wouldn't mind a Nova/Quasar comic by Ewing.

He apparently has plans for Rich, maybe Wendell but who knows.

Attached: Screenshot_20190605-094131_Facebook.jpg (1080x1241, 732K)

Give it time, Marvel team up with Kamala and Carol is setting them to go toe to toe against the Kree because they are investigating the arrival of a ressurected Mar-Vell. He might pop up in there.

>signing his copy of Royals
That's how you know he's a true fan.
No but seriously, that's amazing. According to his tweet today, he teased some short and long term stories where Nova and Quasar are an important part of it. Maybe it also has to do with the resurrected Greek Pantheon as space gods, along with Hercules' new look... After all, he was seen there rescuing some Kree Nova soldiers.

twitter.com/Al_Ewing/status/1136263929808732162

Here hoping for Rich to be an important player in the Marvel Comics special in a few months.

Rich being upset makes sense, he's gone through a lot if shit in his lifetime (especially recently with his brother and the Cancerverse) is prone to being depressive too and he can get pessimistic about things really easily when he's down. Wendell is more of a mentally healthy and positive person who looks at the bright side of things and tries to make everyone feel better.

Attached: b7da691b-103f-4ea7-8d20-6449fc0cc5b0.png (500x349, 264K)

Hopefully, I am about to drop Cates' Guardians, no hope for that shit and I need some good cosmic content.

Also Rich and Wendell getting proper attention again would be good.

If you're talking about Marvel comics 1000, I don't expect him to show up there.
I do think he's getting a movie soon, though. So, he'll have some time in the limelight

They can't be destroyed IIRC from the 90's quasar run, but the real question is how are there two sets as she clearly had hers on when he saw her in the void as well.

>Wendell is more of a mentally healthy and positive person who looks at the bright side of things and tries to make everyone feel better.
This. And this was a dude who had some deep depression bouts early on as well, so he knows from experience how down can someone get when they feel they aren't up to task.
Perhaps she fell on another universe and found another set in there? It wouldn't be the first time, like Wendell's time in the "New Universe" universe. At least this sorta confirms alt!Phyla-Vell isn't (a) Quasar since she has no Quantum Bands at all, only the cosmic awareness that comes with the Vells.

Attached: quasar-sandwich.png (1536x886, 2M)

Pretty sure they're going to cram every character they can into Marvel #1000 and Ewing is writing several pages for it. He'll pop up there at least.

Yeah his movie won't come in anytime soon although if he's part of the rumored announcements that can put him back in the limelight. I am sure that people knowing he's going to be in the MCU is part of why he's getting some attention in the comics.

Here's hoping Ewing hits the big leagues with Immortal Hulk's success so he gets to write him and Wendell in the long run.

>Ewing doing more stuff with Rich and Wendell
YES

It is going to be about Marvel's history, he'll get at least one page

Do we know what happened to Mar-Vell's Nega-Bands after Carol used them against Skrullvell?

If you're talking about Marvel comics 1000, I don't expect him to show up there.
Guarantee you the New Warriors will make a cameo at least. No way they aren't featured.

I like this story . Cute.

>resurrected Greek Pantheon as space gods, along with Hercules' new look
wut what happened wtf

Read Avengers: No Road Home, it is pretty good.
And if you haven't read Avengers: No Surrender too

This is from an epilogue that is supposed to happen in a year from now. I hope I'm not spoiling much here, but yeah, you should definitely go read No Road Home.

Attached: Avengers - No Road Home 10 (of 10)-031.jpg (1192x1833, 529K)

I know he's too old but he reminds me of Zam-Rel, whatever happened to him? Rich needs to keep his promise to Ko-Rel and take care of her kid.

Thanks, I'm sort of more annoyed by the space gods idea.
But at least Herc dropped the faggy "manbun", finally.

I think all traces of Ko-Rel were erased when WM in the Cancerverse went back to being the personality before her with 0 explanation.

You know, it might actually be him since even in the issue where he appears it is stated to be a rather young recruit.

Imagine a cosmic story by Ewing including Herc, Rich and Wendell

Attached: mokkori.png (214x343, 132K)

>MOKKORI
Yeah, I think it would be nice if he had a cameo too.
I haven't read that yet!
>I'm sort of more annoyed by the space gods idea.
But that's pure Kirby worship...

Attached: makkari-quasar.jpg (1094x660, 170K)

No I mean the real Ko-Rel, she told Rich to look out for her son before she died.
They never stated Zam's age but I think he was suppose to be a littme kid but whatever it's not like people would care that much for such a minor character being changed like that.

Also having a Nova named Zam and another named Sam would be hilarious.

Nice to see my boy (boys?) again.

Is there more of this artist?

Yes, I believe the artist was the same one who drew the "What If? Magik" one-shot written by Leah Williams.

Wait no, I was wrong, he actually did part of the X-Men Black issue with Emma Frost. I confused the two because Williams wrote it, my bad.

Attached: x-men_black.jpg (900x1366, 210K)

Not telling a bunch of aliens that their god is false doesn´t seem like something Adam would

Attached: adam face.jpg (178x240, 10K)

Well, Thanos already took it upon himself to destroy a race's own god just for the sake of it, and to test their faith. Warlock doing the same would've been cruel.

Attached: thanos-annual_ewing.jpg (804x875, 134K)

Probably knew it was going to fuck them over in the long run if they knew he was false.

Gruenwald was going to reveal that there wasn't a single pair of quantum bands, but similar to the Green Lantern rings they were powerful but non-unique items. The twist - the universe is a big place, there was going to be one set per galaxy, with *250 billion* galaxies in the universe (at the time - we're now up to 2 trillion visible galaxies but Gruenwald worked with the info he had at the time).

So yeah, there was going to be a Quantum Corps with 250 billion members. Of which any two of them rarely would meet because intergalactic distances are huge and most "cosmic" threats were really galactic-level at best.

Holy shit, thanks Quasarfag, I did not know that. Clearly Ewing is in another level of awareness.

Also maybe he can make Avril's bands unique like the negabands are different from the Quantum bands. We really don't need another corps especially a Quasar corps. Honestly it should just be the Space Knights with Nova being Rich and Sam and maybe a small group and Quasar just being Wendell and posisbly Avril because they're doing something with her.

Rich is right, beer is expensive.

I also wasn't aware of this and it's very interesting to read considering Gruenwald was very into making Quasar as "scientifically accurate" as possible in the setting they're in. I can buy the intention of a "Quasar Corps" under that premise, since a single Protector of the Universe seems like a huge job for someone like Wendell.
It's fun to speculate on the purpose of having Avril come back, specially if it also has to do with the ending of No Road Home and the Far Shore. Even though there's very little to go by, the panels remind me of the scene in No Surrender when the Challenger is expelled into a dark place after losing the game with the Grandmaster that turned out to be the Far Shore. She could be coming back from this place to warn from a serious existential threat coming their way.

Attached: quasar-legacy.png (1305x972, 1.71M)

(The scene in question)

Attached: Screenshot from 2018-02-07 19-37-15.png (1057x856, 1005K)

A Quasar corps would be fine but it would have to be handled different from how GL does its own corps. The idea of them rarely meeting also seems fitting.

I didn't care much for Avril but Ewing would be someone who could make me care.

Damn I'm excited for what Ewing is cooking up.

>Far Shore
I completly forgot the Challenger went there.
Seems like a terrible place to be for beings that aren't older Multiverses, Wendell better hurry up.

Also i have always liked the idea of people with Nega/Quantum bands to team up, they are the most effective protector of the Galaxy (although it'd be mainly Vells)

I love that Gruenwald used some existing alien races here
The green with antenae is an Elan
The chick is a Shi'Ar, of course
Fire guy is from Starbolt's species
On his left is a Space Phantom
Somebody can indentify the other species?

the last one in the right looks like a centurian to me

I kind of wish more writers did that, try to build up on existing races or if they introduce new ones just build them up.
Speaking of Centurians the name of Rich's drink here Red tahlei isn't that the name of the Centurians' fins?

Oops I meant to say that if they introduce new ones they should just build them up. Most writers nowadays will just bring new races and then discard them or not do anything of importance with them.

>tahlei
Didn't noticed that reference, nice catch.

Yeah, too many writers creating throwaway races for one-shots and stuff, and never using them again... Makes you think what's the point of that when they can do the same story with a minor species that hasn't been used in a while (unless it involves annihilation, in which case they should tread lightly).
Like for instance, expanding upon Tini Howard's (dan)Druff aliens from this story as one of the many alien species living on the fringe of a black hole unaware they're about to be consumed could make for a small story down the road also, if it entails doing a mass exodus into a less populated planet somewhere safe.

So is Rich going to job to big match Vox next?

Ripe for shipping.
Rich will job to the next absurdly OP villain Cates introduces next, while forgetting about the ones he already created.

I think Rich is going to bounce when the current arc for GotG comes to a close next issue.

>But that's pure Kirby worship...
Even under Kirby, proper gods were treated as proper gods, not Eternals.
Well, at least with Lee.

My first thought was Cancerverse Mar-Vell

Ewing should be writing this series

I will never be able to properly express how mad I am that he not only came back minutes after Thanos Imperative, but also became a lackey for their Captain America.

Lmao what an oblivious chad

Only if Cates writes him.

Any chance this and MC1000 has anything to do with those new teasers

What's with all the super hero name sharing lately? Can't they come up with new codenames and I don't believe all the good ones are already taken.

Bump

why does Cates keep fucking over dogs in every story?
Most interested in Silver Surfer, but depends on who's writing

Tradd Moore too....fuck

Attached: monkey's paw.jpg (512x384, 27K)

Yep... My exact reaction upon seeing him and that cover. Good news is, it's just a miniseries. Thankfully it won't overstay its welcome, but it's still conflicting.

HOWEVER, not everything is terrible: PAD is writing a Silver Surfer one-shot called Prodigal Sun that seems part of a trilogy in which Gerry Duggan is also participating. It has to do with this new character named Prodigal.
>CHAPTER 1 OF 3! The first of three interconnected special issues featuring the FANTASTIC FOUR, the SILVER SURFER and the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY! Introducing PRODIGAL, a strange alien being who has crash-landed in the Savage Land. When he becomes worshipped by a race of swamp-dwelling barbarians, Ka-Zar and Shanna call upon the Fantastic Four to aid them in stopping the barbarians’ plans to conquer the entirety of their world. Join Prodigal on his lengthy journey to try to return home to settle old scores.

The actual cover for #1 is this, and that's #2.

Attached: silver_surfer-prodigal_sun_1-1.jpg (1280x1963, 404K)

>why does Cates keep fucking over dogs in every story?
Galactus eats a dog planet in silver surfer black

Watch it be Quill's dad because fuck you.

unf, that Shanna and Ka-Zar

Was Royals that bad or did it fly under the radar?

Royals was fine but the story got thrown off by an event tie in and two chapters being chopped off. Plus Ewing had Medusa and Gorgon sleep together which nobody liked.

I actually liked Royals (and the Inhumans in general, for that matter), but it also came out on the tail end of the whole Inhumans push, where people were sick of them and basically didn't care after the whole IvX fiasco. So even though it had a solid premise and ideas, it was somewhat cut short by its low sales.
It was coming out at the same time as Black Bolt and it had some synergy with it, which if it wasn't for its Eisner nod it would've faded into obscurity as well, since it wasn't selling that hot either (despite having a lot of good WOM).

very interesting. what were kirby's original intentions of his gods? as one can see in the kirby collector, they present original art with margin notes by jack himself. lee changed most of the drama of the inhuman and kree connection. not saying one or the other is better or worse than the other, all that is suggested is that while lee/kirby were the best pairing ever in this medium, things might have been less collaborated as sold to readers.
kirbymuseum.org/blogs/effect/2012/06/12/a-failure-to-communicate-part-one/
silver surfer is another prime example of each creator having their own view but alas, i digress.

kirby was really into mythology. his first god was tuk the cave boy and his search for attilan. hurricane, son of thor came later most would know him as makkari because he was retconned to be one of the eternals. this later stuff is where gods had extrtaerrsital origins. kirby was really big on chariot of the gods ancient alien theory. in the eternals he rationalized that mortals confused space gods to be their actual cultural deities in a surreal version of passport to magonia. celestials has to be one of the biggest mysteries next to the ant-life equation that kirby ever left behind. what are they exactly? well not even kirby knew. there's a quote by mark evanier talking about kirby's vision for the anti-life equation and he said that kirby would always be changing his mind on what it is in origin. he knew what the concept meant for his series but he never fleshed out the details. he would tell mark on way on day and tomorrow would be a different tale. kirby wouldn't sweat the detail until he sat under and drew it. i can't seem to find the actual quote my mark, so if anyone could find that sauce and post it here i would appreciated it very much.

anyways i'm rabbling i bring this up to open a discussion and analysis of marvel cosmology that's between the drawn line, underneath the surface of ink and color.

I'm guessing Kirby's idea was for Darkseid to never figure out the anti-life equation anyways? Maybe he was supposed to be crazy to some degree, maybe that should be the idea with Thanos later.

But yeah, when you look at their work together telling the story of the gods, you have some sort of middle ground, but still maintains the mythical side. When Kirby goes loose... Celestials and Eternals happen.

found this. it's not the actual quote by evanier but it's close enough to one of the dreamed up scenarios kirby had in his back pocket. thank you to the user senpai who wrote pic.

Attached: 88ieyu5ygmu21.jpg (720x578, 64K)

Royals came out in the worst possible scenario, right in the middle of the Inhumans' fatigue, terribly underrated comic both at the time and now, Ewing had to rush its end i guess for the sales being pretty low (in a perfect world, Ultimates would still be a thing)

Huh. I like it.

BTW was ever explained why Mar-Vell never got the Quantum bands?
