It was directed by the writer of The Last Stand whose only experience directing was the Kate Mara wig stuff in Fant4stic

This

Flipfag here. I just saw it
It was really fucking boring and cheap, Deadpool seemed to have a bigger budget. They didn't even give a name to the villains who were basically kinda like skrulls but also had the powers of Sabretooth.

The train sequence was legit great though and if the rest of the movie was like it then the movie would have been solid.

They clearly didn't give a single fuck

NO ONE FUCKING LIKES JEAN SHE WAS SHIT IN XMEN LAST STAND AND THIS ACTOR IS FUCKING SHIT
no one fucking wanted this movie

Spoil me, does it at least have good action? Does Jean die again?

It has dog shit action for the most part but then the train sequence happens and the action becomes pretty good.
No, she just fucks off and flies away

>she just fucks off and flies away

WAT.
Not even a dead Jean?

Wow. They really just didn't give a fuck.

Jean not dying honestly sounds good since it's different and they don't have to resurrect her later when they want to use her again. Too bad I don't care and won't watch these hit movies.

>hit
shit, I fucked that up.

I was wondering.

So can you give a summary, or at least the ending?

Why would they need to resurrect her? None of this shit will be in the MCU.

>Astronauts go to space but their spaceship gets fucked by some weird Solar Flare alien gas
>X men go up and save them. Jean forcing herself to save the last astronaut get hit by the Solar flare and absorbs it all
>Weird aliens that look like the Mummies from Mummy 2 arrive on Earth. Their leader crashes Jessica Chastains party and shape shifts into her
>in another completely unrelated party the Xmen are chilling out but Jean gets migraines and awakens the Phoenix I guess(they never directly call it that)
>Xavier probes Jean and its revealed that Xavier sealed the memory of Jeans dad giving her away to Xavier(Jean knows she killed her Mom and thought she killed her dad)
>Jean flies away and finds her dad and she gets angry about why her Dad abandoned her
>X Men arrive and fail to calm Jean down ending up in a fight that ends up with Jean flinging Mystique into a wooden stake killing her
>Jean flies away and goes to Magnetos hippies mutant commune covered in blood
>Magneto starts asking questions but soldiers arrive looking for Jean
>Magneto tries to make the soldiers leave but Jean reveals herself, kills a few soldiers and Magneto ends up saving some soldiers and telling Jean to fuck off
>Beast angry that Mystique is dead goes to Magnetos hippie farm and tells him Jean killed Mystique and both of them swear to Avenge their Waifu
>Jessica Chastain finds Jean in a bar and tells her to follow her to New York to know more about the Phoenix
>The Phoenix was a chaotic alien thing that destroyed the planet of the aliens and they want to use the Phoenix to recreate their world(they actually just want to use it to subjugate humans and take over Earth)
>Beast and Magneto along with 2 henchmen(a telepath lady and a guy who can control his dreads) end up meeting the X men(X, Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Storm) in front of the alien HQ and they get into a badly shot fight
>Magneto and X manage to get into the alien HQ but both get wrecked by Jean

>Jean then starts giving Jessica Chastain the Phoenix but Cyclops arrives and blasts Jessica Chastain through the roof and then Jean collapses.
>Soldiers arrive, taze all the mutants, put dampening collars on them and put them on a train
>While on route to ??? the train gets ambushed by Jessica Chastain and her army of minions
>While their real form look like the mummies from mummy 2 they all shape shifted into regular looking joes in plain clothes. They are super durable with regeneration(though they can get killed) and they fight like Sabretooth
>Its a legit good sequence and the soldiers start getting wrecked by the aliens though one of them manage to get the mutants free but Jean is still unconscious
>The mutants starts fighting the aliens while Xavier tries to wake Jean up
>A pretty lengthy fight occurs that ends up with Magnetos minions dead, most X men unconscious and most aliens dead
>Jessica Chastain arrives with some of the Phoenix powers and knocks the rest of the X men unconscious and the train off the rails
>Jean wakes up, kills the remaining aliens and fights Jessica Chastain on who can absorb who better
>Jean then flies into space with Jessica Chastain and kills her. X men think Jean dies
>X men end up renaming the school into The Jean Grey Institute for gifted children. Xavier and Magneto end up playing chess in front of a Cafe as friends. The camera pans up and it shows a faint image of the Phoenix falling to earth
Overall it was super boring but the train sequence was legit good. I dont recommend

So this is the end, is there any closure on Magneto's constantly flip-flopping arc?

No mention of Quicksilver being his son?

A lot of things

-Doing the Dark Phoenix saga in one movie...
-For a SECOND time, after the poorly received previous attempt....
-Directed by the same writer as said previous attempt who has literally never directed before...
-Staring a cast that we largely don't care about except two characters
-Notably, the audience does not care about or even really know the titular character herself, which is kind of important when doing the Phoenix storyline
-Adding on the cultural consciousness of knowing that nothing in this movie matters due to it being rebooted into the MCU in 5 or so years.

Also, Apocalypse's reception basically killed any goodwill the X-Men franchise had left.

I'll watch this if the Mystique death is hilarious like some of the old spoilers. That's the only thing that will get me to watch this.

>Jean not dying honestly sounds good since it's different and they don't have to resurrect her later when they want to use her again
user, you know that X-Men are getting rebooted right?

Lol he ends up destroying so much shit and gets away scott free again

guhhh

youtube.com/watch?v=sEKB7pi1mbc

Fucking hell. I think the Magneto flipflopping memes are gonna be the X-Men's legacy going forward

Remember when first class came out and it looked like they were trying to do something different with the franchise yet we ended up with the same characters doing the same shit they did they first time round.

Seriously. He selfishly tries to hunt down Jean for revenge, destroys an entire city block and the underground subway only to end up saving the world. No one was planning on fighting the aliens. The Xmen and Magneto before and after fighting them had no idea what they were or their goals outside of wanting Jean and the Phoenix.

Mags character arc in these movies

Good, then bad
Bad, then good, then 180s into bad
Good then bad then good

How can you hate a face like this?

Attached: 16th-annual-gq-men-of-the-year-party---arrivals.jpg (300x300, 9K)

>Fox-men
>closure
You expect too much from a franchise that never delivered.

why would they invite anyone who was part of the movie back?

Does Magneto get any good scenes? Be it dialogue or action scenes of the same scale as the previous two movies?

Yeah, he gets some cool moments.

What do you mean we got main character mystique :^)

Simon Kinberg is a pretty heavy hitter at Fox, desu

They could have maybe salvaged it a bit if they gave Quicksliver another cool slow motion scene with music but they don't have one this time.

Talk about a movie with no agency or purpose. There is literally no reason for this to exist

If you guys stick til the end of the credits, they literally place some text saying "this film was done with X number of employees under X thousands of hours", which is basically them asking for pity points.

>p-please give us props for all the effort and hard work for the movie at least

Attached: 1517105082910.gif (640x360, 192K)

That's been at the end of several movies now.

When was it good?

Attached: X-Costumes-header.jpg (1920x1080, 566K)

Everything.

X2, First Class, DoFP. X1 is enjoyable as a product of it's time.

Logan and the Deadpools are good because of how disconnected they are from the main movies

X1 gets worse the more I watch it but it was as good as it could have been for its time. We were all just happy we seemed to be getting some actual comic book movies outside of Superman and Batman.

Does cyclops gets anything to do?

>enjoyable

Attached: 1546316709682.jpg (251x242, 19K)

Fox's X-Men are so pathetic that even the Magneto has silver hair
Probably the producers think that he was going to look like an old man

Attached: caxk4ey.jpg (1431x1103, 1.35M)

I mean, viewing it through the lens of a 2000 movie that was just trying the X-Men seriously for the first time.

His best moment is being the only one who can sort of stall Mag but otherwise he does pretty much same as the others.

Train was a reshoot

All I want is a giant flaming bird and a faithful adaption to the costume.

Why is this so fucking hard?

Attached: original (1).gif (500x328, 499K)

SAVAGE

Attached: imageproxy.jpg (500x287, 33K)

You got a flaming bird in X2 kind of

>and a faithful adaption to the costume.
Oh please user. We're talking about FoX-Men here

Every X-Men movie has been bad, except X2 and Logan. Even those had serious issues and were carried by amazing, well cast actors.

DoFP is better than anything marvel has ever done.

I mean, DOFP is definitely in the "good" tier of X-Men movies but a)The movie is again centered around the same 3 people that they've been pushing since the first one and b)since DOFP is not the last X-Men movie, the entire thing, especially it's ending, falls kind of flat.

Also Mystique sucks in general and Mags literally flip flops twice in the movie.
It's literally the only way they know how to write him (He flip flops again in Dark Phoenix btw)

>(He flip flops again in Dark Phoenix btw)
The only people you'd have to tell aren't worth your time user.

The movie is full of train wreck . Literally .So many train wrecks.

>The Last Stand again
>Shitty script again
>Magneto and Mystique again for no reason
>Horrible costumes that looks really like shit
>Jennifer Lawrence
>Sophie Turner
>Tye Sheridan
..........

Remember when the first trailer came out and people were like "did they seriously give Jean the same red coat as Jean in X3" and other people were like "that doesn't mean anything! You don't know how the movie could turn out!"

Well now?

fail upwards in hollywood

Not being MCU, otherwise it's just as good.

the fox "shills" at the time were just anti-mcu Yea Forums shitters looking any excuse to be a contrarian

glad to see them BTFO yet AGAIN

>it's a "let's skip all the build up that made the phoenix saga good and jump straight into evil jean lol" episode

For those who seen the movie how would you rate Cyclops?

Attached: DP-Poster-FanArt.jpg (810x1200, 249K)

JEEEAAAN

About the same as he was in Apoc

Quicksilver appeared only at start. I expected one mandatory slow mo sequence.

>government gives him his own island despite genociding hundreds of millions of people for apocalypse last movie
>tries to be nice and protect soldiers but goes mental again when he finds out raven died
>tears a subway train out of the ground into a busy NYC street probably killing loads of civvies for zero reason since all he does is walk into a building after
>for no reason starts protecting Jean again and literally tells the ayy lmao lady "....I had a change of heart" when she asks wtf is with his flip flopping
homeboy bipolar

It was clear they didn't know how to write such a powerful character so literally just had him trip and fall badly and be in a coma for the rest of the movie.

This seriously happens? Wtf
This movie might be worse than I thought

They do, just not with period-appropriate music.

The cast doesnt look charismatic at all. Who the fuck look at this retarded kid and thought "yeah that looks like cyclop"

>X men end up renaming the school into The Jean Grey Institute for gifted children
I beg you, fellow 4channers. See Godzilla instead of this joke

The source material sucks

Nah, I'll skip both and go see Rocketman

So I never saw Apocalypse

Did Sophie Turner Jean get any characterization before this movie?

No

Just normal stuff.
Outcast at school cause of her powers. Fear that she'd hurt some one. Some bonding stuff with Cyclops because he felt the same way.

And then coming into control of her powers at the end to kill Apocalypse, using a bird shaped aura to disintegrate him.

So I have no idea why they made this one.

It's a real bad sign when I remember Origins Cyclops better than First Class-onwards version

Just a reminder, they could have ended this shit gracefully with Logan and went out with at least a little dignity.

Even Apocalypse was a decent exit.
Deadpool 2 even ended things in a bow.

>Even Apocalypse was a decent exit.
No it was not

Yeah it was.
Nice circular, but distinctly different, feeling.

Fuck off Singer

I liked the Apocalypse movie. The horsemen besides Magneto really didn't make sense though.

>Yeah it was.
No, DOFP is the perfect exit. Logan is the perfect epilogue. Apocalypse is some dumb shit nobody wanted

It closes up the prequel saga pretty damn well.
The stuff with Magneto, such as the juxtaposition of the First Class prologue with him destroying Auschwitz, was wonderful. Might have been one of the best scenes in the series.

>It closes up the prequel saga pretty damn well.
It literally leaves a bunch of unanswered questions and undeveloped characters. It is an unironic teaser for "okay, next movie is the REAL X-Men film you wanted" and they couldn't even get that right

What unanswered questions?

In fact, it kinda answers why/how Jean survived to the DOFP epilogue..

yeah it was retarded
>Jean floating in the air having a telekinetic tantrum exploding a house
>Quicksilver runs up the wreckage to get to her
>despite him moving so fast Storm's lightning is paused in mid-air the shrapnel somehow speeds up under his feet
>he comically slips off and falls into a TK blast that sends him flying off into a bush
>even though that blast would be moving so fast it would have atomized all the other x-men it was also hitting
>Jean didn't do this on purpose as she doesn't have the reaction time, it was just a one in a trillion coincidence this super fast TK blast caught up with him at the wrong time
>even though he was moving so fast he wouldn't need to hop from object to object anyway as gravity would have relatively no effect on him and he could just pounce right up to her but movie no physics good

Explain exactly how Mystique dies pls

>when they want to use her again
Naw, the FoX Men continuity is going die with them, everything after will hopefully be a hard reboot. Thank god.

Jean wanking.

Attached: Jean grery turns iceman.jpg (600x481, 67K)

>see Dark Phoenix being defended by Snyderfags

Oh man, is this the demographic? That explains everything.

>Xavier probes Jean and its revealed that Xavier sealed the memory of Jeans dad giving her away to Xavier(Jean knows she killed her Mom and thought she killed her dad)
>Jean flies away and finds her dad and she gets angry about why her Dad abandoned her
Wait, do we know her dad is alive from previous movies? Or is this just retcon for shocking purpose and because dad bad - mom good thing?

Where? There's literally no overlap.

If there is, they aren't Snyderfags, their those kind of people who support anything as long as it isn't MCU

Jean's parents were both alive in the old timeline. Though you get the sense her father is way less understanding of her mutation than her mother.

Ok, thx. Its just another fuck continuity since first class?

So from what I hear it somehow manages to be worse than Last Stand?

I can't believe it.
I saw The Last Stand a few days ago, and it's just fucking unwatchable. I doubt the critics have seen The Last Stand in years.

The timeline changed after DOFP. Anything between that and the ending of DOFP is fair game.

Because he was Singer's butt buddy for many movies, stretching back to X2

Singer just wanted his lips on his cock

This looks like the poster of a Spy Kids movie.

It's not a real one

>no Deadpool cameo
>no MCU bridge at the end

Is shit. Also, they all ready did this in The Last Stand.

so who are the jobbers they toss Magneto's way this time? They don't even try to give him classic Brotherhood members?

A telepath and a dread guy? How boring.

It's okay user, I actually agree with you. Flawed Apocalypse was, I thought it was a nice ending for the First Class cast.

Honestly I feel bad for this movie
>planned as the start of a new trilogy, again
>Phoenix with no buildup, AGAIN
>Magneto's minions weren't originally no-name characters but previous cast members dropped out
>Ending completely re-shot to avoid similarity with Captain Marvel
>doesn't end the series with Magneto and Xavier, the ones who basically carried the new series
>no Wolverine

>Phoenix with no buildup, AGAIN
I don't know why you're feeling bad for the movie for that. That was a choice they made. One that anybody could see was a bad one.

>doesn't end the series with Magneto and Xavier, the ones who basically carried the new series
Wait, according to the spoilers, it ends with them playing chess (which means Erik flip flopped twice in one movie again)

reshoots

the first 20 min were cape kino

>Ending completely re-shot to avoid similarity with Captain Marvel

That's a good thing. The train battle is the best part of the movie.

It's a good thing in that regard but it's a bad thing in the sense that X-Men will never go truly cosmic in this universe.

They weren't going to anyway. Fox slashed the budget so the original final battle was never filmed, we would just get Jean flying into the stratosphere and blowing up a spaceship.

What do you even call this? Jean edits?

Attached: Gay Ice.jpg (650x1791, 453K)

>we will never have a good Phoenix movie costume, one of the few good Xmen dsigns

this is sad

Attached: how-to-draw-phoenix.jpg (1211x848, 178K)

I fucking hate how hype this bullshit movies are with normies. They should flop and make nothing back.

Attached: 1559662972752.png (434x400, 120K)

This movie did not have any hype at all. If anything, the only hype was coming from people who sunk their time into loving this movie regardless because of how much they like FoX-Men

I'm talking about every X-Man movie since the 3rd one. Which is where everything went to shit.
