The director was so focused on making a showa era style (heroic Godzilla) to the point where he also repeated the human character nonsense in a movie where everyone is more focused on the monsters than anything else, even back then everyone knew those movies were dumb as fuck and barely had the impact that the original had.

Now people were saying that the old movies were also bad, so what's the deal? The director literally delivered what their fans wanted and the critics are an example of that. It's really an entertaining movie but you literally have watch 1:30h of human nonsense.

These people accomplish what exactly in comparison to the dad? They save themselves? The only thing the protagonist humans in the movie get accomplished at all is saving Godzilla once courtesy of Serizawa. The dad literally even correctly calls out the military woman's first plan in the movie and saves the entire military team with that hangar trick. If anything the problem was that the dad was way too clever, not that the diversity characters were spearheading things.

Honestly they would have a better chance at that. None of the original 2 movies were masterpieces (and the galactus cloud is still ridiculed to this day) but if they made a 3rd attempt it might not be that bad (if they completely replace everyone including writers and everyone behind the scenes as well). -Doing the Dark Phoenix saga in one movie...
-For a SECOND time, after the poorly received previous attempt....
-Directed by the same writer as said previous attempt who has literally never directed before...
-Staring a cast that we largely don't care about except two characters
-Notably, the audience does not care about or even really know the titular character herself, which is kind of important when doing the Phoenix storyline
-Adding on the cultural consciousness of knowing that nothing in this movie matters due to it being rebooted into the MCU in 5 or so years.

Also, Apocalypse's reception basically killed any goodwill the X-Men franchise had left.
