Specifically targeting Catra would be easier, they are already enemies and while letting Adora fall to her death was a huge escalation between them it still fits Catra's growing hostility towards Adora. For Bow or Glimmer to betray Adora like that would be very sudden and out of character and even Adora would guess that something was wrong.

And the princess alliance is useful. Even if Light Hope doesn't like it, having the princesses as friends has proven helpful in the past. An old friendship with an enemy is an obstacle without any obvious benefits.

If they don't perma-change Glimmer's outfit to be the Bebop one I'm rioting.

Catra has always struggled with being Adora's shadow, the only thing that kept her from suffering about that was the fact that Adora was always by her side and genuinely appreciated her, when Adora left, the message Catra got was "She saw you suffering all your life and didn't do anything, but now that a bunch of randos are having a bad time, it's her breaking point, you meant nothing to her", she feels like if she leaves the Horde she'll be back to being Adora's shadow, and she'll never be able to prove herself.

That is because she is probably autistic and as such moodswings and short attention spam aren't that rare, in the Horde she has everything she cares about, technology and science, and the best part is that there's no morality getting in the middle of it.

Literally immediately after he says this, she uses her knowledge of his tactics and weaponry to prevent him from taking over Perfuma's kingdom, and then even in the DnD episode she's going over their abilities and capabilities, and in the Jailbreak episode she gave them a way to escape. Like maybe she doesn't know everything but the Perfuma thing alone proves he should've at least been worried about her knowing his tactics. It just stuck out because it was so soon after he was all 'nah its fine just make Catra force captain'. Like I get not putting in a bunch of resources to getting her back but he should have been pissed a Force Captain who has so much knowledge of his conquest abilities would defect.

Yeah the creator is absolutely a racist and sexist. She is, she tweeted about it openly and everything, she outright said multiple times she hates them. Its one of those things you just have to accept if you want to watch the show, a white male character will be treated poorly because the creator is prejudiced against them. There's really no way to deny it or deflect, she openly said it and then never ever changed her views and they're still pretty obviously on display even now.

Just something to point to when people bring that stuff up just to say she was like that before but that didn't stop her from writing a good character, but due to her choices we can't really do that. Kyle's sidestory is bad, its a really bad story that makes no sense in correlation with Bow's development, and the scenes from season 1 connected with the dismissal or even joy at his pain in season 2 make it all the more clear that the good guys are supposed to enjoy how they act with him, even though it makes no story sense and makes the characters and their personalities weaker as a result. The subplot only makes the show worse and would have been fine if it was cut out or changed.

It really bums me out because I do wish I could show more people this but how can you realistically support that and not say you're supporting someone's bigotry? It has some good parts to it, some really good ideas even. There's a lot to like but once you find out about the tweets and the creator there's just this big stain you can't avoid whenever that character is on screen, and if you're a white guy I would imagine you'd probably be insulted like anyone of any race would be if the situation was flipped, and that's valid.

It sucks, but maybe the next reboot will be better. Not like this one's going to become the definitive edition or anything.

Well I'm glad we can have a more nuanced discussion about it. It is a bit of the old 'hate the creator not the works' thing.

It would be like, if Enders Game had a gay character who's whole purpose was to get his shit kicked in, his every scene was just a long joke, and he tried to be friends with Ender only to be rebuked and then laughed at for even trying to be friends. You would think "Wow, this creator hates gay people", and you'd be right. Its kind of telling that instead of that a number of gay individuals connected with Ender, a character who didn't quite fit in because of something he couldn't control, everyone thought was weaker and more meek because of the stereotype, and he understood the outcasts better than anyone. I think that's ultimately the biggest shame of the production because that's just not possible with this character, what are you supposed to see in Kyle and, more importantly, what are you supposed to take away from it? Don't be friends with black people because they'll stab you in the back? Lesbians will be assholes to you so just tell them to fuck themselves? Where does this character go? The obvious answer is, nowhere. He's just there because the creator has personal issues that, rather than discouraging, are being encouraged and they really should not be, but the bundle around her of how she perceives the rest of the production mean that probably won't get through. I guess this isn't really a good example for a story, but a fantastic example of why being a creator in this sort of environment is so worrisome for some.

I don't see this series having surprise gays. The show creator is a lesbian and hasn't been subtle at all about Catradora and Scorpia being lesbian. The lesbian main characters are about as open as you can get without actually saying the word "gay." Plus there's no taboo against homosexuality in this world so there's no reason for Bow or Seahawk to have a "coming out" plot line.

Ironically, wouldn't this be a fantastically interesting plot for Adora? Imagine if she actually had to risk herself to save the others, but instead of instantly falling over themselves to be her friend they were suspicious and didn't like her at all for episodes on end. She even does the right thing one time and instead of being praised, she's outright dismissed and now has to wonder if its better to go back to the horde, which she knows now is doing wrong but accepts and even admires her, vs joining a group that will make her feel isolated and alone but who ultimately are the right ones in this situation and deserve to be protected.

Obviously the writers couldn't quite pull it off, and expecting them to pull it off would be unfair, but it is an interesting idea that some other artist might be able to make use of in the next go round.

The original had that problem as well, though ironically even that was done better as Adora publicly called out Hordak and denounced the horde and made her intentions known to fight them, so when everyone else accepted her they had good reason to do it. This show rushed past that so that we could focus more on buddies who actively seem to hate each other.

Its kind of like Us secretly being about the government trying to instill a substitute population meant to control the masses in the 80's, but when their genetic failure made them incapable of controlling the regular population they just abandoned millions of violent people to hollow lives that would make them resent people who had no say, choice, or knowledge of their existence instead of the failed institutions that allowed them to be brought there, and the only hope of salvation for our main characters was to kill the attempted replacement population before they're killed like their peaceful neighbors.

I don't know. The more I think about it, the more it could work. Obviously he can't be part of the Rebellion because Bow. He could be Catra's right hand man who is competent, but not comfortable with being in power (kind of like Gage from Nuka-World), but he's also cold and distant to those he commands and works for. There could be potential for interesting conflict with Scorpia for obvious reasons and it could also play into Catra's doubts with the Horde.

I like the show as is, but that's kind of interesting.

If she'd written one like Lonnie, or not changed either of the males she changed-and that is the most important aspect of this, she changed them, she had an original depiction and made a conscious decision based on her bigotry to change a character to move away from a race and gender she negatively views-then it would have some kind of argument on the matter.

There is none, and she made the story worse specifically to facilitate her own viewpoint. What point was there in having Kyle beg to be made friends with a character who seemed open to the idea with everyone else before, even Catra, and then not only rebuke him but is visibly disgusted at the idea and in a later scene enjoys hurting him instead of talking to him? There is none, it didn't fit the character, the moment, and had she not been been vocal in her prejudice it would merely be bad writing, rather than from a negative viewpoint.

Its kind of telling that, rather than assuming he'd be the same person, the creators obvious viewpoint colored both of you to assume that merely a different skintone would mean she would write him lesser, less important, less entertaining.

That's the sign of a creator who's let her bigotry be so open anyone can see it, and fear it would come.

His backstory is different and his personality is mostly tweaked to be more... foppish, I guess? OG was like what a kids cartoon thinks a pirate is and he hit on Adora all the time. He was absolutely entertaining and fun in his own right and his magical items were neat, but he was a lot more 'subtle' than Nuhawk, which is saying a lot because you know, Filmation.

I might as well start writing it myself though, but I'm trying to work on a "young Hordak lands on Etheria after Horde politics screw him over and he gets shoved in Despondos" fic thing I've got working on. Ehh, I'll manage.

That aside this episode is surprisingly entertaining, Sea-Hawk was a lot of fun, him just full body tackling the robots was a highlight. Catra shooting his laser sword was even better. And as much as I've got to rag on the voice acting for adora, She-Ra herself is top tier, she's just so damn dry with every line its amazing.

She-Ra's voice actress clearly is in love with the role, and that is one big negative on the new one. When Adora becomes Nu-Ra they're pretty much identical, its just her in a costume, but She-Ra just loves every moment of being She-Ra and is much more worried as Adora.

I'm actually really liking that Seahawk and would have loved for this kind of character to be in the new one. He's competent, but not unbeatable, he's got a witty line but doesn't always get the last word, he's not a bad guy but he does have a problem with greed, he's not a coward but he protected Adora by the end. He's rather well rounded for, you know, the really rough writing of the original. Its a very stiff show, no? The dialog isn't bad but its pretty stilted with standing about and just explaining what we can see or they could show, and then occasionally they burst into really well drawn animation.

Maybe he can be the new hawks dad and give him his items of power.

I have no idea how old Glimmer is, but I'm going with her being 17 as the oldest and her dad died either after she was born or conceived and he was a young man by then.

For Mob Psycho and Dororo I've seen nothing but good vibes.

Honestly he's not a very threatening villain, so I don't see why he wouldn't just give up and let them have Ethernia if they got a portal open. He's done nothing for conquest besides ask a crazy old cat lady and a bunch of moody teenagers to do their best and then just ignored them. If everyone just dropped it I don't even know if he'd notice or care. He seems to be doing this just because that's what the horde does, not out of any obligation or desire to rule. He doesn't even like commanding people, just yells at them and then goes away to work on his portal.

It just seems like this whole story could be resolved by Light Hope telling She-Ra how Mara's portals worked and she just gives it to Hordak, he'd probably just be

It probably has something to do with this Horde Prime guy we've been hearing about. Hordak is probably conquering Etheria for him.

For Hordak, we really don't know who he is. But he seems to be going through the motions of being a conqueror, but is really focused on getting off of Etheria and could actually care less about ruling. Etheria, to him, is just some shithole planet full of lesbos, and he'd rather be off on some better world that probably has chicks that want to jump his dick.

Honestly, it sounds like he was put into a position he never wanted and is going through the motions of doing it, but working his ass off to get out of the hell he's stuck in to do other things.

Its weird because he's kinda not, we don't see him order any place taken over or anything, he mostly just lets whoever is in charge at the moment try their best to take someplace over, or if someone else wants to try then let them try to take it over instead. He never seems to strategize and he sure as hell isn't getting involved himself, even if they're literally in his house and breaking his shit.

I hope season 3 really gives him either a lot more backstory or just has him do literally anything else, because for being the grand villain of this story he's kind of a non-entity.

People do report to him and keep him in the loop. If anything, he's telling his Force Captains what his will is, the conquering of Etheria, and then he lets them do it in their own way so long as it doesn't waste resources. Shadow Weaver was a terrible SIC that allowed the Etherian vs. Horde fight stagnate because she'd rather act like a mom and put one giant egg in one flimsy basket. Where that egg then rolled away to become She-Ra and ruin any sort of advantage the potential may have had, and SW chimped out and tried to kill the one princess who may have the key to win this fight.

Then Catra just became even more garbage in the short amount of time and couldn't lead herself in a paper bag, wouldn't do paperwork and neglected her duties to the point a battalion quit fighting because they had no armor.

And then the camera cuts over to said fortress just so we, the audience know 2 things. 1 that's which one she means, and 2, Adora is so... so dumb to have set up camp right there and if Scorpia could manage to win against a rooster in a game of checkers, they'd probably all be exploded.

You might wonder why people who are this bad at it would write a story about a prolonged war, and to that I say The Long Night proved you don't need to know fucking anything about how any sort of military works in order to write a show around military works. Just take the win that they may be dumb enough to be within exploding range, but at least Scorpia didn't tell the horde to charge and then immediately open fire with blasters when they were in front of them.

The virus disk hasn't made it's presence clear then. That explains why she's so violent, but then again, it's kind of weird to think that Berserk-Ra, the violent untamable beast, is having a passionate moment with Catra. You probably could have made a reference to it is all I'm saying.

How bad was it?

It wasn't that bad, but the tone was all over the place. Don't watch it expecting "Fantasy Futurama" because it's really different and I appreciate that, but it's objectively less good right now (but S2 can salvage it, the second half was way better than the first).

Here's a question, if these spoilers are true, then why did Horde Prime clone himself? Why would he want to create another person such as himself, and then give that guy a way to amass power by putting him into the military?

If you look closely as Hordak's picture, you can see that his belt is different(it goes all around his waist and looks to have some type of stone or metal inlay), his hood is bigger and closed at the neck(With another inlay) and Hordak looks to have a stone imbedded in the middle of his forehead. His arms seem to be different too, with them looking to be more natural, or at least have smoother tech being used instead of the bulky looking First Ones tech armor.

That is because Entrapta proved something this two don't have: She's competent.

SW was obsessed with the Black Garnet and when Adora went missing she kept losing resources to get her back, one soldier out of the bunch they have.

Catra did better than SW but she let her emotions and her need for validation get in the way of her critical thinking, allowing SW, someone with a fair amount of knowledge about the Horde, escape to god knows where.

Entrapta, on the other hand, has no strong emotional attachments to anyone per se, her mind is focused on one thing, technology and science, and her heart is focused on the thing she's been raised by and around her whole life: robots. Unless programed to do so, Emily would never betray Entrapta, and even if she does, she'll know is a failure in her programing, like what happened in her kingdom with the virus.

Entrapta has her mind 100% in the game.

I really like the fact that what made Glimmer stop wasn't a "we'll be just as much of baddies!" sort of deal but mostly the fact that they could hurt Entrapta in return.

Bow knows Glimmer won't go soft on Catra after everything and his first shot when he sees Glimmer attempting to finish off Catra is say "we can't take that risk" and Glimmer is aware that the Horde can hit lower than they can, and getting Entrapta tortured further or killed is a high risk.

Really hope they don't double down in this, Glimmer's sense of justice is one of her best character traits.
