What's your Pixar tier list?

Pixar is probably the best animation studio working today, at least in my opinion. No one else really compares in terms of both overall quality and creativity. However, some of their films are much better than others, and a few of them just miss the mark entirely. Here's how I rank them, but what about you?

God Tier: WALL-E, Up, Inside Out, Coco

Absolute masterpieces of the medium that will be remembered for a long time to come. Beautiful animation, very emotionally touching content, deep and important themes.

Top Tier: Toy Story 1-3, Finding Nemo, Finding Dory

Great movies that should be seen by everyone. Very entertaining and emotionally moving, but generally lighter fare than God Tier.

Mid Tier: Incredibles 1-2, Ratatouille, Monsters University

Good, fun movies that are worth seeing for a diversion. Not particularly moving, but still artfully produced.

Low Tier: A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc., Cars 1

Movies that are somewhat entertaining, but don't really go anywhere beyond that. Also, the first two are quite dated in terms of art and animation compared to Pixar's current standards, and it's noticeable.

Shit Tier: Cars 2-3, Brave, The Good Dinosaur

Pretty forgettable stuff. Either bore you or make you roll your eyes. Don't even show them to your kids.

anything before 2011 (plus coco) > the rest

OP here. Inside Out is probably my favorite, lol. I really hope it gets a sequel, as there are endless possibilities for the concept.

>God tier
Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Monsters, Inc., Toy Story 3
>Top tier
Up, Toy Story, Inside Out, Cars
>Mid tier
Coco, Toy Story 2, WALL-E, A Bug's Life, Ratatouille
>Low tier
Incredibles 2, Monsters University, Brave
>Haven't seen tier
Cars 2, Cars 3, Finding Dory, The Good Dinosaur

Inside Out has to be THE most overrated Pixar film of the 2010s. What is it about this movie that people keep propping it up? The fact that it was the first original Pixar movie after the sequel bonanza for 4 fucking years at the start of the decade besides Brave?

I'm agree too. I liked Wall-e, Inside out and Coco the others not, well maybe Ratatouille too, i liked the premise.

god tier, and by god tier I mean literally peak 3D film
>toy story 1, incredibles

great tier
>ratatoing, coco, inside out, toy story 2

been too long since I watched so I can't remember if they hold up or what tier
>anything not listed

ok tier
>bug life

trash tier
>cars1-3, dinosaur, finding dory, incredibles 2

disclaimer: I am harsher on the newer movies because a bad animated film to me is pure wasted potential, and with all this new technolomagy the potential is way higher and thus I find it far more excruciating seeing bad execution when it looks like hotcakes

It's a surprisingly complex psychological allegory. Impressive how the action going on in the personification of Riley's mind manages to flow well narratively even while corresponding to her perfectly believable actions and emotions expressed in real life. Characters are also generally likable and relatable, and the ending is very emotionally satisfying.

Alright, here's mine:

God Tier: The Incredibles, Wall-E, Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo

Top Tier: Up, Toy Story 1, Toy Story 3, Ratatouille, Incredibles 2, Inside Out, Monsters Inc.

Mid Tier: Cars, Finding Dory

Low Tier: Brave, Monsters University

Shit Tier: Cars 2, Cars 3

Haven't Seen Tier: Good Dinosaur, Coco

Anyone else thinks Outward looks like Illumination tier shit? It's such a shame to see such a hard working and out there studio now take the easy path of making really generic and cheapish looking animation knowing it will sell all the same at the end of the day.

Just checked out the trailer and it does look really lame. If they can't even get decent content for the trailer then you know it's gonna suck.

Quality sure but when's the last time Pixar did anything creative or even slightly risky? The first half of Wall-E?
>thinks Inside Out is a masterpiece
Jesus Christ user, have some respect for the medium.

But it doesn't do that. The one visually creative sequence of the movie (the abstraction) is not reflected whatsoever in Riley's behavior.
It's also not an allegory but a direct representation.

It isn't complex its a basic cause and effect story. I agree with the other user and want to know why people over exaggerate their praise in this kind of wordy bullshit.

>The one visually creative sequence of the movie (the abstraction) is not reflected whatsoever in Riley's behavior.
It's allegorical of Riley unconsciously processing her emotions.

>It isn't complex its a basic cause and effect story.
Note when Joy and Sadness get tossed out of hte control center seemingly by accident. This is allegorical of Riley becoming depressed (Joy has no control) but her bottling up her sadness (b/c her mother tells her to by happy for the sake of her father). They also manage to make it back in just as soon as Riley realizes she's doing something stupid by running away. There's more going on in the movie than it seems.

Pixar movies are known for their bad trailers.

Jesus fucking christ its not that deep Yea Forums please fucking stop describing shit like that.

Yepp... If otherwise, the movie will end up being pretty bad. Like when I got excited by trailers of Brave and The Good Dinosaur. It still hurts...

IDK man, the things I pointed out are pretty straightforward stuff I realized on first viewing. It's probably possible to do an even more thorough interpretation. Ultimately I mainly like the movie because it's funny, relatable, and emotionally touching, and understanding what's going on psychologically just adds to the emotional journey.

Literally everyone can see what's going on, it's not subtle at all.

>IDK man, the things I pointed out are pretty straightforward stuff I realized on first viewing.
You and everyone fucking else you 14 year old girl.

One user thought the abstraction was irrelevant but I explained why it wasn't. Didn't say it was subtle, just more complex than I expected it to be.

I god damn worship WALL-E; god tier, hands down the best, cannot budge my opinion on this. That's my opinion of course.
I was talking about Ponyo (ghibli film) with a friend the other day and why exactly I loved that film so much. I think it was because a certain strand of the premise was the same as WALL-E: our protagonist seeks to painstakingly escape their oppressive realm to seek love and joy and acceptance far far away. That sort of escapism resonates to me, in a deeply personal manner.
WALL-E is good.

Oh I also like that part where the emotions she's bottling up start invading her dreams in bizarre ways. That's pretty realistic.

>God tier
Toy Story 2
>Top tier
Monsters Inc., Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo
>Mid tier
Monsters University, The Incredibles, Inside Out, Toy Story 3
>Low tier

Never saw the others

But it is irrelevant. That's not what abstraction is, it's not "processing your emotions".

Subjecting your emotions to abstract thought is indeed a form of processing (perhaps shouldn't have said it was unconscious). You literally see them being transformed in various ways. Maybe the metaphor would have been more complete if they were changed permanently by it, but it still works.
