It's because it involves May and Momo who, while often dragged into the shit show of the rest of the comic, have not themselves been significantly degraded from their original characterization while simultaneously actually developing as characters, and Sven, a reasonably decent guy with actual flaws we thought we'd never see again except to have other characters bitch about their delusions of how terrible he was.

Plotwise, it isn't making conflict go "poof" inside of a week or two, so tension is rising enough to actually make it interesting. Though that's no guarantee, Jeph could somehow make them hunky dory in the next four comics and negate it all again.

This is not a hard to resolve conflict. At any page now it can be resolved the same as any other conflict: the characters all suddenly magically see how they were wrong, calmly apologize, and kiss and make up until everything returns to status quo.

It’s been a good ride so far, but it’s probably just gonna fizzle out like every other problem the characters ever face.

I would save money and buy May a new chassis.

Yeah, Jeph already gave himself an out. May genuinely didn't know because she can't recognize people when they change their hair.

If May and Sven do become a thing I can see him offering to buy her a new body (remember, he has a lot of money) and it turning into this huge fight with May being like "What's wrong with my body now?!"

Also, remember when Roko had body dysmorphia? When was that, like 3 months ago? No stabbing from that?

She's expressed that openly several times and can't wait to get out of it.
I think she'd be positively thrilled and would be unlikely to experience anything like Roko did.

Momo is the one with the out, May's not at fault here. And given Momo's personality it'd actually be in character for Jeph's usual "three strips and that's a wrap" ending to drama plots.

The actual drama would logically be May's ego reacting to Sven offering to buy her a new chassis; she wants one but having Sven buy her one makes her feel kinda worthless personally and that her relationship with Sven has gotten really fucking serious.

I can easily see her pride getting in the way, complicated by the potential feelings for Sven.

The art style and a few of the characters. The dialog isn't a wall of text for each panel and I like the solid colors and thick cartoonish outlining. It makes the comic look "clean" to me.

I originally started reading because Marigold is my gamer girl waifu. I like Hannelore, Momo, and May for similar reasons.

I really don't think I could get an explanation of the whole plot, nor do I really care, but what happened to Hanners? Same with Faye and whats her name that ran the coffee shop?

Yeah, the art style. Out of everything on the Yea Forums catalog right now there's probably only 2 or 3 comics I can even tolerate, not including this one.

I don't know what it is, but so many artists make everything super complex and detailed and use incredibly fine lines and 26 levels of shading trying to make everything look realistic or something. I HATE it. That kind of art makes the whole thing look "dirty" or "messy" or "grimey" to me. I immediately lose interest as a result.
QC, on the other hand, looks clean. Thick lines and bright, saturated solid colors. Cartoonish but with enough realism to be relatable.

There's probably terms for these things so forgive me that I don't know them. I've only been on Yea Forums since this May-Sven happening occurred.

Even the art in these three panels is gross.
It looks messy, dirty, and unfinished.
There's no clear lines and the washed out colors make it look dreary and dull. To me it looks like a sketch that the artist just said "fuck it just color this one" and slapped it on a strip.

A lot of modern big-publisher comics have gotten really stylistically bland, that's true.

The reason people are calling you autistic for liking Gorph's style is that in addition to the reasons you list for liking it, it tends to be stiff, kind of soulless, and sort of the comics equivalent of totally unseasoned and unbuttered grits. He's getting a bit better at portraying emotion, but the uncanny valley rears its head pretty often still.

Some other comics that share a clean, simple, and bright style are Whomp and SMBC, but for all their other flaws, the art actually conveys emotions effectively.

I have to admit I totally agree with you about the uncanny valley thing. I can't think of any examples off hand, but I know exactly what you're talking about in regards to the lack of ability to portray emotions accurately.

Hanners went on a trip around the world to find herself. Faye has opened a robot repair shop with her lesbian robot girlfriend, the combat android Bubbles. Dora is still running the coffeeshop and recently became engaged with her own lesbian girlfriend, Tai the stoner librarian.

Foreshadowing doesn’t have to mean anything in a comic where the author’s writing method is to browse his own forums and then spend about an hour to write whatever will probably piss off the audience the least that particular day.

i should know, ive read it since 2003

Perpetual lack of tension, meaningful or incidental, is a key problem with this comic, moreso than the artwork or "progressive" politics that are also heavily criticized. It's slice-of-life, not one-off comedy, so it needs an overarching story to work properly. Stories involve tension and release, and the release works only if the tension does. I don't think anyone is clamoring for this particular arc to lead to a cataclysmic blowup, but it's the first instance of meaningful tension in a long time, probably years. Therefore, an exhausted audience is attempting to hold on to the moment, as small as it seems when viewing from a macro scale. It would behoove Jeph to resolve a conflict in a manner other than "friends forever" or "memory hole a character". It's perfectly okay for two characters to agree to a resolution yet be uneasy around each other for some time and even reignite a "settled" argument. This is what real people do.

May/Sven is what people are excited about, not drama between May and Momo.

Back in the earliest days of the comic, Jeph openly admitted that doodling out a page for Questionable Content was something he would habitually do about an hour before bed every day after he got out of his office job. That’s probably why he would update so regularly- it seems it used to be his daily destressing ritual. After it became his full time job, he started to claim that he spends more time on it and that he makes a buffer, but this probably isn’t true judging from the fact that if he has a sudden emergency, he rarely has a comic already done for that day. Also, like the other user said, he has no problem completely veering the plot immediately if there’s ever negative feedback, and it seems like he takes “inspiration” from other people’s comments pretty quickly. And he’s probably not just tossing work away when he does this.

It was easy to see the logic behind the storyline. Sam's a child, Marigold's a womanchild, pair them for comedy! But it was also a stretch that a kid previously defined by her love of outdoors critters was conveniently into letsplays to set up the story, and then people went "hard nope" to an adult that barely rates as an acquaintance going not just shopping with an unrelated child, but to her bedroom.

Script =/= art. He probably has tons of storyline ideas with a few notes, and a handful at any given time that have progressed to being actual scripts, but he doesn't do the art until shortly before publishing.

To be fair, the shifting styles are hilarious. You'd think after this long he'd stick with one but every so often it just takes a sudden shift.

There are plenty of ways one could finesse the general idea into something that works. There is nothing stopping her from being into LPs and also being the outdoorsy type, aside from that start with Sam and Momo, bring Marigold is later with them having computer problems. That gives her an actual reason to be in the house, that can be further cemented by something like a website gig from Jim or Veronica to establish a relationship beyond "Marten and Momo's friend." Furthermore, if you want to include her in the LPs themselves, you don't actually need them to be present together in order to make it work, as you can simply have them play together online. Really though, it's no more creepy than any of the stories with Sam and Faye, the latest of which had Sam ditch school to head downtown by herself.
