Bravestarr was such an absolutely amazing show. If there is one tv series that I would allow to raise my children in my absence, it's this.

Tons of reasons;
First off these cartoons were made in the 80s/90s when the US economy was booming, and Regan had basically removed all laws that prevented cartoons to just be toy sales, so they became that, and there was a ton of them because there was a ton, and I do mean A TON of action figure lines.

after 2008 the economy has been utterly shit, so less money to buy toys, that and kids also got their games

around mid 90s Power Rangers became a big thing so companies started aping that, while cartoons got a bit more comedy focused.

Action Cartoons needs toylines to do well to sell, but your more comedy focused show don't

Basically all kids shows now air on kids networks, CN, Nick ect, and they don't really want action cartoons, expecially CN, they will sabotage any DC hero cartoon they're forced to take by WB, unless it's TTG.

And why spend money on make new ones when you could import anime, which is what also happened in the early 2000s

nowadays it's mostly about making tv shows work on streaming services and action cartoons are making a slow comeback, but we will never see the sheer amount of them there was in the 80s

Conan the Adventurer is so funny to me, because it really kind of does embody a certain kind of 90's cartoon that anyone who grew up in that decade will instantly recognize.

>take an IP that isn't perceived as particularly kid-friendly, possibly inspired by the success of a recent film franchise
>revamp the character to be more traditionally heroic (IE change "Barbarian" to "Adventurer") and give him an unattainable goal that could potentially allow the show to continue forever
>give the main character a deadly weapon that is sufficiently "cool" and marketable, do not allow him to use it as a deadly weapon (IE a sword that is only used to shoot lasers/deflect other blows)

It's actually a little disappointing, because outside of the efforts to make the show fit into the "no sharp edges and everyone learns a lesson" 90's kid show mold, it's a fairly decent version of Conan. If the show hadn't been so toothless, it'd probably be remembered fondly.

Like, why not shit like this? This is the shit we should be reviving with some tweaks, changes, and modernizing. It was just an '80s toy-marketing vehicle, cool mostly for it's raw idea and trendy designs. It would offend nobody to alter the original designs or tone of the show for, say, a movie or video game or something.

Take the raw idea:
>Humans (and a mostly-human ally) fight for survival/peace/justice/raditude in a world/time where animated/re-animated/living skeletons have nearly made humans extinct, also every character and prop looks like it would make a cool toy or be fun in a video game
and give it a thick coat of modern paint:
>Diverse culture/gender cast of humans (no time for differences when it's all humans vs. death)
>Designs are trendy by today's standards, maybe more hyper-realistic and modern-military themed, play up either the sci-fi or the horror elements
>Give it a "deeper", more mature backstory, more fleshed-out heh lore, give characters range or growth
>Half-skeleton (whatever the fuck that gets interpreted as today) ally obviously goes through serious emotional conflicts, team has to learn to trust them over time
and you're fucking golden.

Leave shit that was already perfect for what it was alone, like Robocop, Sonic, Dragonball, etc; You can only make something that's worse in comparison.

Amazing show, the writers actually tried to make something beyond a toy commercial. Some of the writing was good, not cartoon good, but TV good. From the studio that did My Little Pony and Skeleton Warriors. But hey, same studio that did Animaniacs and original Arthur, so they can pull it off if they try.

Wait a minute! I recognise those dinosaurs! And that spaceship! And that Eggman ripoff! Is that what I watched as a child? I always thought it was way cooler than that.

It's a real shame the show is basically forgotten, and nothing new will ever come out of it. It seems like a lot serious-action oriented cartoons that aren't capeshit pretty much go unfinished. Tron Uprising, Exosquad, Starship Troopers, all fucking end on cliff hangers. At least exosquad got closure to the neosapien war.

I will never speak this aloud under any circumstances, but I really liked this show.

It occurs to me that there was a two decade-ish period in which adults in their 30s and 40s were perfectly acceptable to have as main characters in children's cartoons. Probably because you can't have kid self-inserts with action figure proportions.
