I only got one of my orders in the mail yet so I can't take a pic, but this weekend I got:
>Immortal Hulk Vol. 3 >Multiversity TPB
Any plans on getting the rest of Annihilation and such?
William Robinson
Greetings earthlings
Benjamin Reyes
I’ve lost my Conquest volume 2 somehow, and I’ve always Wanted to swap out what I have for the omnibus editions but I think I’m only missing X-men kingbreaker and BRB Stormbreaker
I wanted to give him a comic related name and my wife let me get away with Jarvis
We just call him baby j usually but he’s a very sweet cuddle cat
Wyatt Mitchell
I’m curious about Rumble, what keeps you into it?
Never got it while it was coming out but always was tempted
David Anderson
Oh nice! I just got through Hellboy library 3 and I get saw it seems, for now, to only get better as it goes along
Rasputin is fuckign insane
Hunter Martinez
That Hellboy lot is sexual
Aaron Clark
you have a lot of stuff I didn't even know had a hardcover edition. You must really like HC over TPBs ever read the Drizzt comics? They did the original trilogy as comics. I read the first oine and I have to say it was pretty decent. If I can find them for a good price I may grab them
Nicholas Reyes
This is most of the stuff I picked up this past week. I also got the second Top 10 book, I'm just waiting for the first one to come in the mail.
The first 3 trades are really good but they took a break while making it and James Harren left to go work with marvel and when they picked up again with a new artist, it did not feel like the same comic. It's still enjoyable but something about the first 3 trades just seems better. I think it's worth checking out user.
Nathan Wilson
Vampifag are you here? I want to make a gift for you
Parker Miller
Yeah, I've been reading Hellboy for like a decade, but only just started collecting it.
That man just won't stay dead.
Elijah James
Which Vampifag are you referring to? I think there's at least three of us.
>Do you have a comic that's not particularly good but you enjoy?
>The cheapest book you've got
Camden Perry
Well I’ll make the present and all the vampifags can have one
Aaron Ross
>>Do you have a comic that's not particularly good but you enjoy? Yeah, the entirety of the Bendis-era of Avengers and Events. Peak popcorn comics. >>The cheapest book you've got In terms of dollar to page ratio it's probably the X-Statix omnibus for 30 dollars.
Aaron Smith
That Hellboy figure you got on the top shelf is for sale at a local flea market for $100. Real tempting to pick it up.
Man the Question is so wonderful, I wish he was more in the spotlight. If you enjoy a more violent Batman rolling on twenty bucks you’re in for a year with some wonderful spirit
It’s been a minute since I read it but I expected more JLU Question and got more of a detective question which I still loved
This all hurt the more during the 52, which desu I thought had a sweet Phantom Stranger last maybe issue 5 or 7
Andrew King
I'd say it's one of the better cape runs, it has an awesome cast, amazing storylines and good action beats but as always sample it before buying
Noah Perry
I miss my Civil War HC l, lost in the move and I have no fuckign clue
Autocorrect to desu why pho
Ian Flores
>Not good but I enjoy
Honestly Red Robin is not all the best but I loved it so much when it was coming out
>the cheapest
By and far my copy of Multiversity, it has barely a dent and wast 8 bucks while relatively new
Juan Roberts
>Do you have a comic that's not particularly good but you enjoy? Plenty. Most are probably cause they are just silly fun like Danger Girl. >>The cheapest book you've got From what it is worth? The Borgia origional print run hardcovers. $15 each. But i have also gotten a few free from a book nook library someone made, one i had really wanted actually. Also free from christmas thread was The Nikopol Trilogy and i thank that guy cause that book is great
William Rogers
I LOVE hardcovers
Let me tell you the journey I went through for all the Swamp Things hc, like years of trips and road trips searching at different stores but I love them and the journey My Cosmic Marvel amd Uncanny x force omnibus are going to be saved from any fires ever with my cat in tow
Andrew Rodriguez
user it is ok. We all have a problem....except instead of AA this is reinforcing the problem
Grayson Ramirez
>Danger Girl for his pick
Solid choice
Jayden Thompson
>Good news everyone I stole more stuff Kek. Lokianon i love you. Now get on filling that shit up so it falls over on you
Robert Watson
>>Do you have a comic that's not particularly good but you enjoy? batman: death of the family
>>The cheapest book you've got jim lee Xmen #1. got it for cover price a few weeks ago im aware its not rare or anything, but its still cool to have.
/shelf/ keeps the comic book industry alive. to cease /shelf/ threads is to crash the American economy
Gabriel Powell
>day cosmic omnibus lot
Dude I love all my old cosmic stuff but I regret not swapping out for the omnibus editions that have printed reading order without having to literally swap books
Alas there is always something else to buy in this black hole
Ryder Smith
Never too many. It's one of the few threads on this shit board where we actually discuss comics
Don't store books like this. You ruin the spine over time.
John Hill
I liked redhood a lot the new trio works pretty well within the story and you grow attached to the characters i'd recommend it if it goes woth your tastes. I don't know how the new run is but i have to check it out. Also >X,Y,Z I'm not sure what you mean
current runs: >Action Comics >The Green Lantern >Naomi >Doomsday Clock
Jackson Walker
Oh sorry I wasn’t sure if it was still red and the outlaws
I like me some weird or c lost characters and I hear Artimis and Bizarro were involved?!
Nathaniel Brown
We getting a lot of Sideways pics in here lately. Is it cause people actually felt for him in HiC?
Jaxson Fisher
Pretty kino cause you don't have diablo 3
Wyatt Nelson
There is no other place to discuss comics with people that do read them
Alexander Walker
Nah it's because i'm a filthy phone poster
Brody Morales
Multiversity came in the mail today
David Price
Shoot landscape and it comes out normally when you post
Oliver Wood
>discuss comics That's entirely what Yea Forums is for. /shelf/ isn't needed, nor does anyone here actually "read" comics
Jace Adams
It is still red and the outlaws, only a new team consisting of bizzaro and artemis, for me , the dynamics worked very well it builds the unlikely family wonderfully
>open Yea Forums >check the catalog >nothing but waifu, shipping, cartoons, or live action movie threads >only comics threads are storytimes
Dylan Rivera
We do...it's why we talk about what we are reading backlogs we are trying to get through. I am halfway through Essex County and glad that /shelf/ said it was good cause i moved it up my reading list.
Sorry thread police, we'll promise to be good from now on, and just post how our feelings got hurt by the latest cape movie or cartoon finale
Isaiah Martinez
I don't wish Yea Forums on my worst enemy. God damn i want to talk about Good Omens so much but they only thing they talk about is God is a woman and Adam and Eve are black. It may be my favorite show of the decade but the autism there prevents good talks. Every once in a while there are people who have read Pratchett there but fuck is it terrible
Hunter Lewis
im a brainlet, /shelf/, how frequently does DC release trades of ongoing series?
for instance, they released the trade of action comics 1001-1006, and the next issue is gonna be AC 1012, will they release a trade of 1007-1012 later in the summer?
>expecting/tv/ not to be autistic about anything ((BLACKED))
Sebastian Davis
yes, retard
Nicholas Rivera
Same thing was happening to me user, I usually just upload the pic to Instagram, delete it, then come here and upload the pic from the file from Instagram. Its annoying but it works for me
Nathaniel Brown
I have no idea! But the solicitations that they release every month are your best bet to see what they are publishing next! Just search for tp or HC in the page and you are good to go! Also check Comicbookdb, if the volume you seek is in its database, then is already out.
Mason Diaz
why would someone read DC/Marvel when japanese comics are so much more superior?
Jonathan Phillips
Colour is a huge tool in creating comics. Black and white can be good if that is the intention but it being the default is not good. Colour sets mood and tone of the story, dropping that means unless the artist really pays attention to that, and some do, that is something that is lost
Zachary Ward
why would someone post such abhorrent shit when theres good content on Yea Forums?
Kevin Rivera
Oohhh my gods
What are your favorites in there?
Carter Perry
What? Then why do we have all the goddamn books?
Listen I know most of haven’t read a fair share of what we own but you’re jus being negative if you think shelf threads can’t make quality co discussion
Just read around this thread a little more and maybe contribute what you like and such too?
Jack Sanders
This
Austin Allen
Hard to say, The Ditko and Kirby stuff hold a special place for sure . Also quite fond of gene Colan Dracula/black panther. And the Abnett/Lanning cosmic saga.
Samuel Cox
Unless you can actually read japanese, most of the comics that are available are on the same level as DC and Marvel.
Hudson Moore
I read the last thread, and I refuse to believe that a scantily clad character could be taken seriously in a story.
Justin Barnes
>there are people who go to the lcs and buy like 10-15 issues and complain about all of them
then stop buying them and reading them jfc senpaitachi
Kevin Gomez
>I refuse to believe that a scantily clad character could be taken seriously in a story. Lets not start that here. All i will say is go read something like Empowered
Austin Walker
>What? Then why do we have all the goddamn books? Not him, but fuck if I know. Half of these are still in the shrink wrap. They might as well be Funkos because they're just shelf porn. People blindbuy shit now just because the hivemind recommends it. Very rarely can you tell someone's taste from their shelves anymore.
Dominic Davis
>Then why do we have all the goddamn books?
Going by how many books the average shelfposter has, I wouldn't say that reading comics is a serious interest for most of them. Its more about making a nice little shrine.
Nicholas Bailey
I will admit to having about a foot high of unread stuff but that is a fraction of my collection. And there is about 1/3 of my collection that i have reread
William Adams
The problem is FOMO and the fact that I can't get rid of my most of shit.
Oliver Reed
>not having stacks of unread books around
not all of us have the willpower to buy a book, read it, then get the next book
Hunter Ortiz
Jesus i might be autistic then because i read everything i own at least 5 times amd buy what is recommended here
Dylan Green
Except that good colorists are far and in-between. Most are trash that ruin the inks
Robert Johnson
here you go vampifags as promised, the 1:100 vampirella /shelf/ card variant
Right on man, that JMS Omni is a fucking dope page turner. Until the very end. Fuck marvel editorial for what they did to gwendy
Charles Flores
haha who would have unread books around haha who does that haha not me thats for sure haha
Landon Hall
Then stick to good colourists, it isn't hard. Honestly i love painted comics and that is all about colour. Does manga have any painted comics?
Jason Perez
>Jusko You did Lilliths work
Leo Turner
Somebody make one for marvel omnibuses
Gavin Russell
took me forever to render that fucking thing in MS paint. fuck me for never learning photoshop
Charles Cook
Or you just actually like reading comics. Its actually fairly uncommon these days.
Jeremiah Cox
Well anons, I get it, you don't like people talking about their shelves, how about you go make a thread about something you really want to discuss? I won't have a problem chatting with you if it's about something I know, just link it here
Owen Mitchell
It's normal to have more than you've read because a) we buy things on sale b) we buy things for FOOP (fear of out of print) But if you think we don't actually read and discuss comics you're either delusional or new to these threads. Having 30 shrinkwrapped omnis is not the norm for us
This shit happens with regular books as well. I don't know why I just like having books around me.
Nathan Sanchez
Ya i bought Absolute Promethea on sale cause it will never ever be reprinted in that format. But i got Volume 2 and have to find a copy of volume 1 and 3 now
DC usually does trades later as a way of "supporting the direct market." As in, give the consumers a few months to go to a LCS and buy singles before putting them together for a cheaper price. Marvel justifies their quick trade releases by pricing the trades higher. Action Comics however was supposed to be one of the series that Didio was trying hardcovers only for, so who the fuck knows.
Xavier James
>Do you have a comic that's not particularly good but you enjoy? The Dark Tower comics >The cheapest book you've got I've got a bunch of floppies I've paid less than a dollar for. Nothing super exciting though, one of them as an X-Men 1 like what has
Isaac Roberts
Godless got a trade release? That's an odd one to get one
some, with the intention to eventually turn into binded hardcovers. I don't tell the sellers that though, because some get weird.
Ayden White
It's absolutely trash. Don't watch it as a Vampirella movie cause it completely shits up the source material. But it does have moments that are fun to watch in a bad movie way, like Roger Daltrey playing Dracula. It's short and on Youtube.
I pull a couple titles as an excuse to go into my comic shop and keep my ear to the ground . It’s also kind of nice to taste comics in all of their different formats; Did Van Ness a floppy is is that it’s the only format that has truly zero gutter loss, you can lay it completely flat
Camden Wright
I only buy floppies for stuff that i feel needs to be supported. So that is rarely DC and Marvel but some small books that i fear will get enough support to finish. Also i will floppy buy any DWJ comic cause those letters pages are both heartbreaking and lovely
Grayson Wright
Nicething about floppies* Thanks auto correct . Surely Van Ness was what I was trying to say
Noah Bailey
>Not that good but I enjoy it anyways Dunno, maybe Garfield could be considered as such because some think of it as the Nickleback of comic strips. Other than that, I don't think I have anything objectively bad.
>Cheapest book you've got Well, several of them are gifts, even my Uncle gave me some of his floppies (Captain America, Thor, Howard the Duck), maybe "Sunny Side Up" I picked it up from the thrift store for 50 cents.
I have a large collection of floppies. I'm done with boxes though and am working on a way to shelve them for easier access.
Gavin Johnson
Never seen it. But i watche Barbarella not long ago and it stands up. It is an acid trip through weird sci-fi erotic ideas and it succeeds at that totally. And now i know why Jane Fonda was such a huge thing on poster walls
Logan White
Barbarella was a comic?
Camden Ross
My Rapties are getting fucked my the refs, /shelf/. Please touch your favorite comic and offer a prayer to the Rapties
I actually like Garfield. It is pleb as fuck but whatever
Jayden Reed
I still read comics in the bookstore before I buy. There's a lot more books that I've read vs what I've actually bought.
Michael Jones
>Bad Book that I enjoy Probably House of M
>Cheapest book that I own
I bought the national reprints of Future Quest vol. 2, Scooby Apocalypse and DC Superhero girls for 200 pesos (about 10usd) and DCSHG had stickers that I'll probably never use
Noah Harris
user....yes it was a 60s comic. Pretty good. Recently she has had a good run with mike Carey and right now a good run with leah Williams in barbarell/Dejah Thoris
Liam Turner
Did she have any good runs in the 60s
Leo Cruz
Apparently in the 70's Hammer Horror wanted to make a Vampirella movie starring Caroline Munro but then Hammer went bankrupt.
How good is No Man's Land ? I was wondering if i should get it for a while now and some inout would be nice
Cooper Wilson
I had a few floppies before becoming a Venomfag: uncle gifted me some from his old collection, HPB would let you pick from their floppies for Free Comic Book Day, and so fourth. As a gift I wanted $100 worth of Venom stuff from my LCS, not many trades--a whole stash of floppies and grabbed $115 worth of Venom floppies. A good way to start my Venom obsession.
It is a single run by a creator. What i read was pretty cool but i never finished
Gabriel Reyes
Overall? It's a junk of crap. But there are issues here and there that are fantastic, and the concept overall is very interesting. No Man's Land gets overrated because it's better than all the shit Bat-xovers that preceded and followed it (Legacy, Contagion, Cataclysm, Officer Down, Fugitive/Murderer, War Games/Drums).
Obviously read it and decide for yourself, but don't expect anything even close to approaching a top50 Batman comic
Caleb Perry
Another disaster averted
Hunter Carter
Addendum: I'm saying this as someone who owns No Man's Land is is a massive Batman fan. I am however discerning enough to know what to recommend or not to people that are not Batfags as well . It's just not that good, and way too fucking long
Julian Hughes
I feel the same about it, it isn't my favorite strip but I enjoy reading it nevertheless.
>Nendoroids >Horse show merchandise >Ouran High School Host Club >Only one volume of Akira >More Fujoshit >Seconds >Scott McFuckingidiot >Doonsbury >Putting toys on top of your books Jesus...
I love stuff like this. Seeing what you guys read besides comics is always interesting.
Ryan Thompson
And of course, the ever expanding Venom shrine. Probably won't be expecting too much for now since I'm going to a Con sometime this month so I need to save my spending money for that.
Thanks, it's a spinning bookshelf and I'm only showing the side that has comics/comic related stuff. The other sides have a whole bunch of novels/reference books/ect. haha.
Joshua Lee
Good, thanks a lot. I might just sample it and see if it's for me
Nolan Anderson
That way we get less threads and everybody wins
Luis Thomas
While I agree that /shelf/ threads are great, I feel we should be very careful we don’t do too many thread too close together. Maybe Official Sunday Shelf thread would be a good thing. One great thread a week is better than 4 mediocre thread through the week
Isaac Bailey
You notice how people have Reinventing Comics on their shelves, but never Zot or the Sculptor? Because the man is a terrible writer that got away with putting out a massive, overblown prose on how comics should read because nobody else thought to do it catering to the Indie crowd first.
I can't trust a person who has never made an interesting comic in their life to tell me how interesting comics are made. I'd sooner listen to Harlan Ellison's rants or attend Neil Gaiman's masterclass than put up with a page of McCleod.
Landon Allen
Well, now I want a Barbarella comic. Thanks faggot
Evan Martin
>being mad at people who write reference books
Luke Walker
I still buy floppies and if it's something I enjoy I will probably buy the tpb or hardcover of that title once it gets collected. I'll also sometimes blind buy floppies based on the art and enjoy it enough to start collecting it.
Ryan Miller
“If you can’t do: teach”
Jonathan Kelly
I'm not mad, I have common sense. Would you trust someone who has never done CPR to attempt it on your dying mother when there's paramedics right next to them?
Jack Lee
>spinning bookshelf Neat, I want one of these now.
Hudson Powell
Scott McCloud is /shelfpilled/
Angel White
I don’t mind the cat pictures, I really don’t, but that one in particular with all the eyeballs, please delete that one and never use it again
Jason Davis
What are some cheap, essential marvel comics like Watchmen? Bonus if it includes women like Elektra or She-Hulk since I don't think they have anyone close to WW in status
Easton Harris
I thought people liked Zot. He has had stinkers for sure but that is highly praised Just read Mike Careys run. The art is weird until you finally get what the idea is. The run is good
Nolan Edwards
>marvel comics like Watchmen i hope you meant "comics in the same vein as watchmen" and youre not implying that watchmen is a marvel book.
but i cant think of anything off the top of my dome apart from maybe frank millers daredevil
Justin King
If one person in this entire thread has a physical copy of Zot on their shelf then I'll shut up about McCleod being a hack.
Eli Clark
I haven't read Zot! yet, but I have seen it on several shelves here. I did enjoy the Sculptor and it's on my "to buy" list. So your argument falls flat there, besides it doesn't change the fact that Understanding Comics is a great book on comics that is referenced by various cartoonists alike.
I got it off of Amazon back in 2015, South Shore Reveal Revolving Bookcase. Although I wished it had more adjustments for taller books, I'm happy with it.
Xavier Cooper
Read Marvels, there should be a cheap TP option you can go for.
Isaac Turner
X-Men is the most female driven book in Marvel...not sure if that's what you are asking..
Benjamin Jones
I have seen Zot on a couple shelves.
Anthony Johnson
man i just really like DC comics
Jason Ramirez
Haven't read it yet. I'm going chronogically.
Lucas Reyes
They don't have anything good with a female MC?
Evan King
Born again Man Without fear Marvels Civil war Kraven last hunt
Benjamin Evans
She hulk Alias
David Hall
There is a dodson storm miniseries and a 2013 one just called storm.
if you're referring to pic related, it's a scene from a futurama episode, which you could have learned with a single google search
Jack Foster
>doesn't recognize Futurama your shelf card is revoked, REVOKED
Jackson Wilson
I never had a shelf card, besides it's just Family Guy tier
Eli Perry
I don't cartoons are trash for the most part, but Futurama is legitimately fantastic
Gabriel Long
I think cartoons*
Michael Fisher
>Futurama >compared to Family guy you have triggered me to no extent. They are NOTHING alike. What can you even compare them to? That Family Guy took the animation style of Simpsons? That isn't sensible cause Futurama is the creator of Simpsons who went on and decided to make something legitimately great and he succeeded.
GOAT: Seinfeld 2. MASH 3. Frasier 4. Friends 5. Cheers 6. Everybody Loves Raymond 9001. the rest
Benjamin Williams
That episode on Frasier where Frasier has to buy X-men comics and "I feel like I'm contributing to the decline of my son's intellect. Grammer than goes on to play Beast.
Was X-men really that popular in the 90s? I rarely see them being cosplayed nowadays. Is X-men Claremont the only good run?
Nicholas Turner
>liking Seinfeld Please stop trolling
David Kelly
>Was X-men really that popular in the 90s? Yes >is X-men Claremont the only good run? No
Justin Brown
>>Was X-men really that popular in the 90s? I rarely see them being cosplayed nowadays. Is X-men Claremont the only good run? is this /shelf/? seriously? Even during the crash the X-Men were the big thing of the 90s and the 80s. And no, Claremont wasn't the only good X-men run. the 2000s had LOADS of great X-Men stuff >Whedon >Spurrier >Carey >Hine >Morrison (Not really my taste but most people dissagree) >Kyle and Yost >Milligan 2000s may have been the actual golden age for X-Men there was so much shit
Liam Brown
Everything on this list is correct except Everybody Loves Raymond, that should be relegated to 9001. the rest.
Jack Howard
How do I into X-men?
Parker Gonzalez
It's what happens when they're 4 shelf threads in a row
Ian Phillips
I don't think I've legitimately liked a sitcom other than Seinfeld and Taxi
Ayden King
>Claremont's stuff (Uncanny, Wolverine, God Loves Man Kills, New Mutants) >Barry Windsor Smith's Weapon X >Morrison's New X-Men >Milligan's X-Statix >Whedon's Astonishing X-Men
Hudson Lewis
Speaking of Swamp Thing. Who here will be getting the Absolute
Nicholas Powell
>Taxi Never seen this, all I know is my nigga Andy Kaufman was on it
Jack Murphy
There's a comic running right now that's covering X-Men history from issue 1 to probably around the time Claremont leaves. I suggest checking it out and seeing if it makes you want to read the actual stories.
Christian Jackson
Grande Design is really fucking good.
Brandon Gonzalez
Yeah but it's better after having already read X-Men stuff since it's a love letter. You wouldn't recc it to a newbie (although you COULD)
Nolan Reed
Why people complain about the regularity of /shelf/? The fact that they always go to bump limit means there's a demand. It's our watering hole.
Jason Wood
if someone has read a lot of comics I would say they could read it, but yeah, it's full of little fun changes and cameos of stuff that is more a love letter to the material they think that too many threads leads to more shitposting. Not sure if they are correct cause all it takes is one person to derail the whole thing and it can happen anytime
Jonathan Roberts
It's Yea Forums, they complain about everything. Especially if people are enjoying themselves.
Tyler Johnson
Are any of these short (
Colton Rodriguez
how are the two thor books by jason aaron? the drizzt books are pretty good oh shit how is black science? i was thinking of getting one of those image library editions did you ignore all your english teachers throughout school because they've never written a well-known book either? just because you havent written anything substantial yourself doesnt mean you cant teach other people about the subject stack your manga on the bottom shelf upright so they dont warp other than that i like it
William Cooper
hey Vampi user, you still on tonight? I got something for you too
Jaxson Campbell
>no prompt ill just say i read v for vendetta, it was ok check'd those devilish trips my dude
I would rec it to a newbie as it's easier to say "hey check out this six or twelve issue thing" as opposed to check out these 30+ issue runs (or hundred plus in Claremont's case). You've got to ease people into stuff sometimes.
please be nice this is for Vampianon there is a christmas and shelf discord that I would like to invite you too I hope no one abuses this discord.gg/dGfxzQ
there is a lot of overlap with the Christmas Cheer threads and /shelf/. If you aren't in Christmas threads I recommend them, lots of streams and storytimes and really good people. I'm a humbug and still they won me over. We also do a gift exchange for comics
Zachary Taylor
What do you talk about on here
Jonathan Rodriguez
Comics we have or want to buy.
Luis Martin
...
Nicholas Gomez
What are you reading, shelf?
Justin Brown
Zot black & white collection. It's ultra comfy.
Juan Reyes
I won this and his other book in a follower giveaway. It's pretty alright, kinda like a documentary in comic form.
coworker who coverbuys comics lends me stuff sometimes so I'm reading Prototype...it's edgy shit.
Lincoln Morales
usagi yojimbo saga vol 2. just got done with the grasscutter arc, it was pretty good and its the first real story with length
Jace Cox
lurking, it says the link is invalid
Jeremiah Gonzalez
>reading
Lmao do I look like a gay nerd to you? On an unrelated note I bought a big ass pack of swiss cheese last week and the smell has gotten pretty strong, it's gone from an almost oderless to almost like a wet dog? I could even smell it over the mustard when eating my sandwich, it was pretty gross. Thanks for reading my blog.
Leo Hall
ya, someone stole it, shame on you. are setting up some other way to invite.
Samuel Torres
Alright so that didn't work out, here's the thing vampianon there's this discord, that was made from the yearly Christmas threads, some of the /shelf/ regulars are there and we would like to invite you, if you are interested send a message to sisaiah#6152
Dylan Perez
Probably my fault, I done goofed
Grayson Lewis
Physically, Defenders Epic 6 - The Six Fingered Hand. It's my first Epic, and it's a bit disappointing. The paper is very thin, and bleeds through a bit. It opens with a Presents issue, and then the first issue of Defenders has Eternity on the cover. On the other side, there is a lot of white space at the bottom of the page, so Eternity's toes are visible from the cover.
Pirate wise, I'm trying out the Superman Post Crisis Chronology. Holy shit, I didn't realize it was so comprehensive. It collects literally everything in what is supposed to be chronological order. The downside is that it jumps from story to story in little chunks. For example, one collection has the epilogue of Man of Steel's first issue, then some of Superman: For All Seasons - Spring, then all of Man of Steel #2, then an annual, then the rest of SFAS-S. What bugs me most is that the covers are at the end, along with the contents page.
Adastra in Africa, the comic that was supposed to be X-Men Life Death III, but Barry didn't want to work with Claremont again and when editorial told him to change the ending he wanted he just redid some panels and changed names to make it an original story
that aliens salvation cover is sick. if mignola did that whole book it might be worth checking out did you read all of fatale? wondering if its worth finishing
Zachary Martinez
Vampifags you still lurking? I made Lokifag a card and I spent more effort on it than I did the Vampironica card so I'm also upgrading the Vampironica card, results soon
Man, I'm still kinda annoyed about some user shitting up the Grand Design Storytimes with >Who is this for, he makes changes!!! REEE! it's just a good summary comic and of course he makes changes, the continuity contradicts itself sometimes
Andrew Bell
I'm lurking
Robert Rivera
user thank you for making /shelf/ fun
Mason Torres
now THIS! is a Waifu chart! God damn!
Jordan Watson
:) glad you like it bro. I always felt like /shelf/ should have some more OC
may as well post Lokifag's card since it's already finished. if you see him before I do, tell him to get that board situation straightened out!
nice...You should make a Hellboy one for Hellboyanon. And definitely make a Hal one for GLfag
Cameron Butler
Ya im making a list >Lanternfag >Hellboyfag >Alex Rossfag (myself hehe)
Jack Brown
/toy/ gets mad at me for statues.
Samuel Sullivan
You are doing a fine job user
Kayden Lewis
How many fags are there on /shelf
Gavin Morales
We are all fags user
Isaiah Ward
That's because they aren't toys.
Brody Price
Heck, you tell me! I will say that Im NOT doing cards for people that are in explicit violation of unwritten /shelf/ decorum. this is villains such as ponyfag/cursedshelfag/venomfag (all one in the same. baka), agent 312, and of course, the dreaded b*x man.
Jaxson Richardson
all of us can you make me a Manarafag one? My /shelf/ isn't dominated by comics from him but I have plenty, and I can't think of a more appropriate card for me than that since I storytime erotic comics
Brandon Ortiz
What did venomfag do? His shelf wasn't deleted. >Ghost Rider >Green Lantern >Hellboy >Alex Rossfag
Benjamin Cooper
>his user is just mad that some girl likes Ponies, Princesses, and Venom.
Levi Gutierrez
that's right, riderfag. forgot him venomfag has princess dolls and my little pony figures. i will not make a card for this person, no sir. who is manara?
You don't know Manara? He's the most famous erotic artist from Europe. Unfortunately some only know him from his dredded Spider Woman cover that was not his best work.
>manara Milo Manara famous Italian comics artist, you probably know him for that Spider-Woman cover that people get upset over
Anthony Edwards
I have nothing against you personally, I just cannot condone your /shelf/ on a semi-profressional level. I have to stick to my principles because without our principles we are just like wild animals in the wild. Do you want to be wild? I don't I remember the outrage over that cover lol
Manara is an European artist most known for its erotica comics, he has done some variants for Marvel (including a controversial Spider-woman one) and a X-Men one shot with Chris Claremont
Cooper Lewis
Yeah, here, I was just a bit sleep, There seem to be a new influx.
Matthew Flores
It's alright, man, you're not the first nor will you be the last.
Stan Sakai announced on his instagram that the IDW reprints of Usagi Yojimbo are all going to be in color, so if you prefer the black and white grab those DH collections soon
Brayden Garcia
>ghost rape Never change Manara, never. outside of his work with Hugo Pratt (which is spectacular), I think my fav is Gullivera, just a girl going to realms where she is a giant or a shrunken person and lastly to a lesbian floating island
Revised Vampi-card for you guys. This one I like because it hits like 3 people. Hellboy will probably be my next one for that reason. But that's all for today!
oh, the fonts look much better here. I am not the target for this, but this looks great
Charles Wood
thanks! it's so hard to make good text in MS paint, and since it's a card already, I figured I'd just use credit cart font from an image. and now I have that saved to make doing future cards easier.
Joseph Fisher
according to DC comics website, it says gary frank was a penciller on JLA volume 3. but on my copy of that book, its howard porter and john dell. am i retarded or something?
glad you like it amigo, and now I feel validated in giving it to you since the board is now a /shelf/
Adam Price
I think that by volume 3 they mean JLA 1997 as a whole, anyway he did parts of issue 15 the conclusion of Rock of Ages
Carter Hughes
I got it for displaying it next to my Loki stuff. I'm glad you find it...lovely?
Yeah! I might even print it and add it to my Loki stuff.
Colton Brown
Before you do I feel I should round out the edged on the Loki logo in the top left. My autism is bugging me when I see it. I'll do it tomorrow lol
Mason Myers
Me again. Nevermind lol, my autism got ahold of me so I went to round out the edges and it looks worse that way, so feel free to print it out, unless you want to edit it yourself
Owen Rogers
thanks! and yes i have the tpb with rock of ages and hes credited in #15. however issue 15 appears in volume 2 and not 3, but whatever.
Landon Moore
Man, Essex County was phenomenal. Lemire when he does art just plots at such a brisk pace that sometimes a page takes only a second to read but it just works. Only thing I didn't really connect with was the random boxing story at the end. Amazing that it only takes a couple hours to read a book this huge
someone tl;dr me on Lady Death >inb4 waifu DC Death
Isaiah Gray
she's a very 90s feminist character. Her origin is that she's always been oppressed, she was to be forced into an abusive marriage by her abusive father etc etc. She was burned as a witch and finally snapped to give her soul to Satan instead. But that didn't work out either cause she was just another type of slave. So the rule in hell was desire=power and her desire to never be under anyones power ever again made her the most powerful person in hell.
Honestly a really good origin story, but I have read very few of her other comics
Brandon Morgan
Man, I would love a complete Scarlet Spider run.
Finish iHerc! I'm reading that right now.
At least you have room there. Books are stacked on top of shelves and movies are placed in boxes.
>The cheapest book you've got Picked up a lot over the years from the thrift stores by work for about a buck a shot, like the first printings of Batman The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen. The Wizard How to Draw trade at one point was going for $100 on Amazon when I paid 80 cents for it. Why I go there twice a week.
Kinda jelly here.
I need to take new photos of my unread books. Been a while.
I agree.
Ooh, this looks interesting. I do enjoy shopping there for comics. I remember when the comics section was just a shelf, not it's a quarter to a third of the second floor, now taking over the children's books section.
Cameron White
Did you get the whole Shortbox #10 or just Sobek? I just got the box for Sobek. Should've just waited since they eventually released it on its own.
Asher Jenkins
So what's DMZ like?
Jaxson Wright
>the price of Fables Deluxe 4

Sebastian King
what are some good silverage comics?
ive been reading some of stan and jacks run on FF and its some great comics, and i crave more wacky antics
Kirby's Thor Ditko Spider-Man Steranko's Nick Fury
Cameron Young
idk about whacky antics but for me the best silver age comics are >FF >ASM >Thor >Nick Fury >Captain America >Doctor Strange people rate Doom Patrol as well but I haven't read it so can't say
Owen Lee
I currently have my shelves organized alphabetically by company, but I'm thinking of mixing it up soon. Maybe move the books I've dropped to a second bookcase (of shame) and organizing by genre/author/artist?
Nolan Miller
> a>107960678 It's good. It's about the people, mainly the main character stuck in manhatten during civil war and the island is the last place not to choose sides.
It's one of the few post Brit invasion vertigo titles (along side scalped) to really get me.
Honestly I'd say pirate the first book and see if it's for you.
Owen Campbell
I just Organise by title. My shameful buys (Slotts Spiderman) alongside classics (Seaguy and Swamp thing.)
Jackson Thomas
Yeah, it's always bothered me when people get visibly upset that I buy pieces of paper with the intention to collect those pieces of paper into a bigger, more easily accessible collection of papers.
Like, I bought it from you because it's cheap. If I wanted a CGC copy to save, I'd get that. It's not like I want to wipe my ass with it.
Nolan Brooks
You should get into Marvel's silver age, and graduate on to DC's after. You should only read DC's silver age because you love the silver age, not because you love good stories.
Samuel Diaz
I'd never do it myself but it seems to me that collecting floppies into a hardcover does the things way more justice to begin with because you actually spend even MORE money to enjoy a coherent and cohesive experience of all the floppies. It also basically reinforces that people who do that aren't some shitty scalpers because you're basically throwing all potential increase in worth out of the window by combining floppies into an HC
Carson Taylor
Just got the invoice for my latest auction win. Full set of Promethea for $35. I am excite. Those Deluxe editions coming out have tempted me, but I'm boycotting DC's collection department for the time being.
Yeah, you basically destroy the resale value for the chance to breathe new life into the books you've flipped through enough times to tire of.
I have roughly ten thousand floppies. The chances of me ever getting around to reading them a third or fourth time are incredibly low.
Landon Ward
I don't have a clue about Promethea but tons of people are praising it. When I found out the Deluxe Editions were coming out, I checked out some of the art and it was nothing special. Good but nothing astounding. Did I just look at some basic-looking pages or what exactly is so great about Promethea? I'd have nothing against buying the three Deluxe Editions once they're out if the material is nice
>I have roughly ten thousand floppies Jeez, man, how long have you been collecting? That's exactly the reason why I swore to never start collecting floppies. TPBs and HCs or nothing at all because floppies are just a goddamn rabbit hole
Jordan Taylor
Is the Anne Nocenti era of Daredevil in the late '80s-early '90s any good? I get from reading about it that it's very polarizing amongst fans.
>I checked out some of the art and it was nothing special. Good but nothing astounding. Uh what? The art is a huge reason the book is unique. It uses art in a completely new way for comics
Colton Green
I've literally seen only two pages (on /shelf/) that looked amazing while the stuff I got from Amazon was pretty standard. I might have to get a cbr of it to see whether it's worth a purchase
Julian Young
>moving into a new space >No time to get everything together at least you have a shelf. our wardrobe still hasn't arrived in our new apartment which means that I can't buy a shelf yet WHICH means that I can't bring my comics yet. What a fucking chore
Juan Nelson
What is that Mickey Mouse comic? Are any of the MM comics good? I heard that Phantom Blot is a good villain.
I love Sobek. Pure good Stokoe. Im hoping its a part of the Grunt collection since he's on the cover of it because otherwise I doubt it'd ever end up collected.
I just got Sobek. Someone told me they usually sell the individual books if there's a demand so I took the gamble. Worth it.
Carter Long
Fatale is great but apparently its divisive for people. I like the entire thing but I do think its not geling with you early it probably wont later
Zachary Cruz
I understand anyone not being someone's thing. I especially understand Piskor not being someone's jam. But boy do people that not like his stuff realy autistically hate it if anyone else does.
Ayden Cruz
Im upset marvel didn't include it in the max omni 2 since it was done well before it came out I think. Or at least do a nice oversized hardcover. Who knows maybe Ennis has more Punisher planned?
It’s newspaper strips. Pretty good, yeah. Mystery and adventure and the Great Depression Micky attempts suicide, no lie.
Luke Wright
Is elephantmen any good? One of the shops has some of their volumes half off. The art is interesting enough but idk if I should pick it up or not
Ryder Jones
>Jeez, man, how long have you been collecting? It's fairly easy to make your money work for you. Once you start buying in bulk, as long as you sell a few keys, you end up with more than you spent.
To be honest, I can see why this would be underwhelming compared to a few modern comics that have played with the medium more than those in the past. Promethea is a blind buy for me so who knows. I'm just glad to get some Moore that's still new to me.
>Discord faggotry on my /shelf/ threads This threads are cancer now
Grayson Adams
What do you do for work user? How can you afford all this? Do your friends and family get to see this or is it in a secret room? What does your book shelf look like?
Xavier Moore
>I just cannot condone your /shelf/ on a semi-profressional level. /shelf/ is about collecting overpriced funny books made mostly for kids and manchildren. There's nothing professional about it.
Ryan Miller
>Mickey attempts suicide show me
Jordan Gonzalez
Posts like this is what stops me from posting my book towers. I'll become known as pilefag or heaps mcgee
Nathaniel Cook
Ah, even though every time I come back to Yea Forums I find it more and more unbearably Yea Forumsmblr, these threads are always a breath of fresh air. Never change, /shelf/
Jeremiah Lee
What are some good european horror comics?
Charles Rivera
It leans a bit more on comedy but Dylan Dog is great
Brody Wood
Don't listen to that guy. The hardcovers he's talking about will be fine. The floppies and softcovers, though will be absolutely ruined.
Ryan Parker
anything else?
Henry Morgan
Anyone going to any of the Urasawa events in London this week as part of his new exhibition? I'm seeing him for the live-drawing/QnA on Wednesday, so hyped
Thanks! I got it for a good price at my LCS during their Black Friday sale.
Leo Phillips
it's ironic :v)
Hunter Watson
Bruh the only one I've seen in months is listed for $99+shipping. I probably would break and get it, but I gotta save to move out. It had to be done. Anyway, here's my actual shelf, Hellboy shrine on the top. I just realized animated HB fell over waaay in the back...
Y'know you could've just taken another picture without the Saga...
Jayden Thompson
I'm fucking lazy, okay? I'll do it next time. Also busy with coursework. I sold Saga in order to fund the hardcovers later down the line Also, more Kirby FF coming up and Golden Age Namor so I need space
Christian Wright
The works of Thomas Ott.
Jose Ward
I have the first five volumes in storage, glad I'm not the only one ashamed to display it.
John Sanchez
Why are you ashamed to display it?
Charles Young
No Guardian Devil and/or Parts of a Hole?
Lincoln Rogers
No.
Elijah Martinez
>Guardian Devil It ok, but I don't think it holds up as well as a lot of the stuff I have >Parts of a Hole I want that stuff but I missed the boat back when it was in print. Haven't read it online but I'm waiting for a new Daredevil MK print of some kind. Related, I don't have Brubaker because >UC3 out of print >Omnibuses aren't my favourite thing
Mason Hall
all of daredevil volume 2 is newly collected bro. search Marvel Knights Daredevil into amazon and take a look
Asher Roberts
Just looked it up. Balls, I gave up hope too soon and never checked again, it seems. Welp, that's another long term project
Asher Harris
Parts of a Hole got reissued December last year! No excuse not to get it now.
Update: Just had diarrhea, possibly related to smelly swiss cheese? I don't really know how long digestion takes. I'll keep you guys in the loop if further BMs happen. PS my butthole hurts.
Adam Nelson
god speed
Ryan Martin
Fucking hell.... you guys are right. I missed a bunch of listings
I'll go check the shop again this weekend and if it's there for around $30 I will buy it again and we can figure something out if your in the US. I would hate for you to over pay for something that much.love your shelf man
Oliver Morgan
I'm a big Marvelfag and like just about everything in the universe but the one thing that's always alluded me is The Punisher. I couldn't get into Ennis' stuff and really don't like his style. But I'm a true believer and I went back and checked out the 80s/90s stuff by Mike Baron and Chuck Dixon, and this is much more my speed. Having a great time with this stuff.
/end blogpost
Zachary Green
So you've got four volumes from the new collections and one from the old?
Jacob Butler
I reckon I'll be the same. I prefer the old brand of crazy to Ennis'.
Michael Martinez
Really love the way comics were colored back then. Malibu was a mistake
How do you all keep your shelves from buckling under the weight of all your books? I've had 3 shelves over the course of 10 years break from all my comics.
Isaac Sanders
Don't tell me that, I sleep under my books Then again there are worse ways to go than neck snapped by comics.
Did the quality improved in the printing and translation?
Alexander Reyes
Haven't read it, but with the discount I got ice cream so all is fine and it's nice that I didn't got yet another Seed of Destruction copy[/spoiler
Isaac Fisher
I think the writing is rad but I dislike the art because of the coloring too much to continue. if you like the art though absolutely give it a whirl
Parker Perez
/shelf/ is for all
Wyatt Miller
Nah man, it's cool. It's my fault for not knowing how Discord works, I thought you just didn't want any shitposters crashing your chat haha
Anthony Walker
it'll be fun
Nolan Foster
I'll look for it elsewhere then
Jeremiah Flores
user I meant to write this to you but I got distracted by all that guys hellboy stuff. There is a shop in my town that sells older toys, collectables and older comics and I just went a few weeks ago and they had that hellboy figure.
Hunter Martin
God, it's been multiple years since I took pics of my collection. So few people still post in these threads I recognize.
Here's a tip kids, if your collection requires five separate photos, it's too much.
>so much Daredevil >so much Thor I have something to aspire to.
Cooper Hill
Finally, the last few trades that didn't fit in the last pic. Cute girl witches? Tiffany Aching: the Wee Free Men. Capable grown women witches? Wyrd Sisters.
I paid 2.99 for Parts of the Hole just last week on Amazon.
Elijah Gonzalez
As long as they aren't hags, CAT LOVING GUY, or a coward wizard.
Ian Davis
...shit, you're right.
Colton Jones
lads I get overwhelmed with how many great comics are out there.
Connor Hughes
just buy the ones you like
Carter Brooks
This is a problem indeed, but think of it this way: you've got a hobby for life.
Camden Price
I want more interesting hobbies that get girls
Connor Martinez
Johnny! You damn punk, I told you years ago to cough up those Madman books! And now I find you've got your dirty rat paws on a bunch of other good shit? Fuck. YOU.
Good to see some familiar shelves though.
Liam Martin
>more interesting What, like rock climbing?
Ryan Taylor
but I like so many
Nicholas Miller
Tell me which ones you want and I'll tell you which ones to buy. HAJIME
Ryder Clark
>Gunslinger Edition vol 2 of the Sixth Gun is vanished from the Internet
For the best I suppose, saves me... several hundred dollars.
Lucas Kelly
For example, running and playing guitar
Brody Roberts
I run three times a week and it hasn't gotten me any girls.
Nathaniel Howard
You'll have to pry then from my cold, dead, dirty rat hands.
Chase Sullivan
Volunteer at the library. Higher chance of meeting women and you get a chance to check out physical copies before buying.
Gabriel Jones
Actual librarian here, within my first month working I had underage girls groping my ass. Explain this.
Hudson Long
don't be a skeleton
Henry Hughes
Just get love and rockets
Jaxon Murphy
This is pretty legit.
Henry Morris
>girls groping my ass How do I become a librarian or volunteer in one? I live near a big college
Kayden Hughes
Well for me it all started when my sister got the job of actually running the place and nepotism handled the rest. >I live neat a big college Just go the campus library and ask if they'll have you.
Camden Stewart
>order a book from Amazon instead of IST to save 12ish dollars
I think I've made a terrible mistake.
Lucas Sanders
do i need a fancy resume
Nathaniel Robinson
For volunteer work that doesn't pay anything? Not really.
Sebastian Ortiz
>Playing guitar It doesn't get you girls, trust me Update: Printing quality is better, the translation is BAD
John Collins
have sex
William Ross
yes I do. and agreed, if you make your own shelf, use birch plywood and dado your shelves, then glue and brad nail them in you are set. Also make sure your backing is fairly strong so that it square's your shelf better, and again wood glue and brad nail it.
Awesome! I work for a company that makes machinery for woodworkers so I always loved your shelf, I dont do any wood working myself though. If i remember correctly there is mini shelfs in the middle that swing open. Great stuff man. I really love the idea of shelf that was intended to store and display comics.
Austin Jenkins
factually false. I have gotten girls by playing both heavy metal (Death/Black Metal band) and by play acoustic love songs. Either you just suck at performance or your music is shit
Jace Collins
yup, here is an old photo of how those work. I keep my D&D dice and other things in there now
cause I posted sideways apparently, you see the bottom middle of the picture. There is a hinge you can see there, it in on the inside though so only the actual hinge is visible on the outside, all the screws are concealed on the inside. It worked out really well actually.
shall I start calling you Board user instead?
Robert Scott
Nah, it is a shelf already, I'll drop the joke now then.
Josiah Reyes
What's the point of it?
Aaron Johnson
I love your Lord Guan
Nathan Nguyen
I'm just being an ass the original idea was that novels can fit 2 deep in a comic shelf, so I ran with it. and I've ALWAYS been a huge fan of hidden compartments and stuff, comes from the whole fantasy trope of hidden stuff. So why the hell not do it if I'm making my own. thanks, I love it too, was a gift from my sister
Jaxson Sanchez
I'd rather have a bookshelf that doubles as a door to a closet
Levi Wilson
I was going to do that for my sisters house, it was going to be a secret hatch for boardgames/Roleplaying Games/comics. But she's mostly gone into other things, she runs a norse reenactment club now and doesn't do as much D&D so her secret stash is on hold now
Also, last post, 500 achieved, thanks all, was a good thread.
Nolan Diaz
since the /shelf/ is tanked now anyway. Anyone like looking back and laughing over their old pictures of their collections? this feels so pleb
Noo, I haven't gotten to complain about how many books I want to buy are OOP and beginning to sell out while more books are released every month adding to the stress of trying to collect on a 50-150 dollars a month budget!
Owen Morales
post more example thread questions for later
Carson Reyes
why do you masturbate to drawings? And why...are they so hot
I can't give you a source so this could just be someone pulling it out of their ass and me wanting it to be true, but I've read that Ennis has two stories planned if MArvel is interested. One is a story from his second tour when he worked with Fury and the other is a modern story.
Joshua Gonzalez
And why wouldn't Marvel be interested? Ennis Punisher is always good.
Isaac James
Nothing really meant by it. That was just how it was phrased when I read it and how it stuck in my mind.
