Loeb explained it in his comics that Thor was finally able to drop his facade. I really liked the idea that Thor was pretending to be a hippie just to gather a following on Earth and was really this drunk fighter. Hickman did a great amalgam of the two after Millar had Tony pay Thor to speak normally.

Africa might have been the only good thing did foreign policy-wise. He quietly strengthened our ties to English-speaking African democracies, and dramatically increased disease and AIDS prevention. Obama quietly doubled down on that.
Now with China's belt and road policy slowly turning many parts of Africa into modern slave states, the US' (and France's) ties to many countries there is about the only thing standing in their way.
Endless free food to Africa, tho, that's been real bad, causing unsustainable population booms without any commiserate growth in domestic food production.

Why all the women in villages near a Himalayan monastery were so hot is a different question, but can probably be answered with "don't think about it too hard". Ultimate Hulk vs Wolverine was entertaining, but not exactly thought provoking.
