The problem is that the creators literally went to Hasbro and went "okay, if you help us pay for this show to get made, you can have full rights to sell action figures based on it". Animation is REALLY expensive. Toy companies are really the only reliable third party who are both able and willing to shell out the massive costs needed. The only other reasonable options are to be Star Wars and have someone like George Lucas throwing money at it or to have the network itself pay for production. The later being much harder to pull off, since they only have the budget to greenlight so many shows per year and generally want to prioritize their new IPs that will add to the network's brand (Adventure Time is a good example). Nowadays there's also the fourth option of having a digital service pick it up, which is similar to the network option but much prefers existing IPs that will draw fans of the franchise to the service. Young Justice REALLY lucked out with that one.

Considering Greg finally got a Season 3 thanks to him pushing fans to go support it on Netflix, what's the likely chance that he has become a savvy business man? I mean if you look at it, we already have hints of it by him introducing fan favorites like Jason, Damian, Jon, etc but stringing there future prominence until Season 4. I fully expect the second half of Season 3 to have shit more unexpected moments than the first half in order to have people talking about the series and demanding for a next season.
