Because it draws out autists who only care about the surface level aspects of a character. They aren’t treating these subjects like make-believe characters, they treat it like a matter of military strategy minus any complexity.

They aren’t having fun, they’re trying to win as if they were the one being pitted against another character. Everything needs a canonical feat list, everything has to fit within an objective, scientific boundary despite the fact that they’re talking about bullshit fiction with rules that change according to whatever would best fit the story.

On the exact same hand, it can be kind of fun to talk about if you’re not trying to start an argument.

Joke characters =/= cartoon characters
A good example of a joke character is wimp lo or dan hibiki. Still though, I agree that saitama often doesn't feel like a joke character. Its not as though joke characters have to be weak but saitama's joke gets overdone quickly. Truth be told, I'm sure more people are interested in the side characters rather than him.

Remina is the size of 100 earths. Saitama is a microbe in comparison, whose only weapons are his fists. He'd has to pull his ultimate move 1000 times to pulverize that thing and pray it doesn't have instant regen

To be fair, saitama was able to punch back a beam from an alien that would have destroyed the earth. That means he already has more than enough power to at least destroy the earth in one serious punch. 100 punches at least would be needed for something 100 earths large then right? I'm not exactly 100% sure about this though.

No, you mouth breather. Saitama is a joke character not because he does wacky shit, but because he's so grotesquely overpowered that watching how he approaches everything with a deadpan expression and no-sells all of the serious shit around him by either ignoring it or unga bungaing the problem before resuming his normal daily activities is humorous in an absurd way. In a world of characters with super speshul backstories and unique powers and skills from years of training he's the guy that just got super fucking strong from basic exercise and decided one day "lol fuck it, I wanna be a hero". His concept is by all rights stupid and incredibly flat and should be impossible to enjoy but the way his character is portrayed makes it work.

We have entire chapters dedicated to introducing super strong characters, having them beaten by even STRONGER characters, and so on and so forth to build imaginary tension just for Saitama to walk in and backhand the strongest being in the room into powder. This is usually done on purpose. The whole point is to set up a scenario of hopelessness, absurd strength and unreal bullshit that no other character can conceivably face head on. This is done repeatedly and ties into whatever lesson-of-the-arc is being taught.

Saitama is a 'joke character' in that there's no actual tension, you know Saitama can just deal with every single obstacle effortlessly, so the comedy comes from everyone stroking their own ego, obsessing over how incredible and mighty they are while the reader/watcher already knows Saitama exists.

I think the Grand Goal of OPM is to prove "there's always someone better than you" or "be humble, don't brag" and I wouldn't be surprised if the manga/anime ended with someone beating Saitama effortlessly.

Power level fags don't like the idea of a character being described as having broken their limitations since it means the character can feasibly do whatever the fuck they want. There's no big number to point to, no concrete feats to judge since the character performing them never shows signs of strain or fatigue to let them know "okay this is hard for that character so this must be close to a limit", no threshold for damage is shown so they don't know how much punishment can be taken. All of this is anathema to the power level fag.

The real reason is that OPM fags are power level fags who think the gimmick of their character lets them look down on other fags and their sacred cows. They don't realize that in wanking Saitama they've completely taken Saitama as what he was created to satirize in the first place. They've taken him as just another Goku or Demonbane.

Again though we have no clue what the extent of his power is because despite the label attached to the moveset there's nothing indicating that his serious series moves are in any way strenuous. Iirc to date we've seen the serious punch, table flip, and side steps all of which are wildly different in power. Consider that the punch cleaved a planetary surface destroying blast in two, kicked a regenerating alien through sheer shock force and caused effects in other parts of the world while the sidesteps knocked a human out with a shockwave. Dude's power is hard to pin down.
