Good fuckin comics. Reminded me of the best moments of Snyder/Capullo's run.

I think people tend to look at the bigger arcs of that run as a whole like "oh he's just riffing on Year One/Morrison/etc." without looking at the individual beats. I feel like this is going to be subject to the same scrutiny like "oh its just a TDKR rip-off" but not looking at the individual moments. There's a lot of good shit in this.

Snyder's back on his writing game it seems. Metal and Justice League were/are ass, but he feels back in a groove here.

I'm very, very, very tired of DC writing great Elseworlds and everything else being clumsy, status-quo orbiting bullshit.
All these goddamn years and it all goes NOWHERE.
30-something Batman and 30-something Superman continue to collect OC cast members and followers, but none of it progresses like an actual STORY.
Johns will poke in his benis and stir everything around and in the end it will be another decade of the Same Old Shit.

Don't read Batman and Superman then. Superman has never been any good, and Batman was spoiled by Tumblr.

this is the most. mainline DC couldn't be more anodyne if it wanted to

this is the post*

Needs more rape

You're an idiot who doesn't even read comics.
DC is constantly changing the status quo, fucking it up when they get a good thing, trying to change it back to what it was, then making even bigger changes that fuck everything up all over again. If anything it's their inability to work with a good status quo that's ruining things.

>muh immutable storytelling rules
What the fuck are you even reading superhero comics for if you don't even understand the base concept that keeps them running?

The whole prologue with the chalk drawing and Arkham felt unnecessary. It got good once Brucie found his lover's head.

I agree with you, he's not a bad writer, he's just unoriginal.
This feels slightly more original, even if it's just Mad Max.
Even his apparent overall goal is just doing the same thing that Miller did and construct his own little Batman universe.

Fuck off dc sucks and marvel rulez

Spoil me a bit, Yea Forums, what's the deal with the Joker head?

Snyder>King. Fight me.

we all agree with you, dude

but Yea Forums used to Hate Snyder, while I've always enjoyed his work on Batman.

the comic didn't address that at all

the most I can spoil is that the Batman in this comic is a clone of Bruce, created by Bruce, and when it finshed some kind of training program it awoke in the middle of a desert and then quickly found the Joker's head in the desert.

Did Bruce leave it there? Is it a hallucination? Did the Joker know about the clone and prepare this?

Confused, but optimistic really. More than anything I'm just baffled how much more disturbing this is than any of the actual Dark Universes Snyder came up wih for Metal even if it does have that trademark Snyder goofiness.

It almost reminds me of some of the earlier Hellboy comics. I feel like Snyder's improving while on the job, not that I'm complaining.

I don't think the thing is that Yea Forums doesn't hate Snyder anymore, if you've seen some of the current Justice League run reactions. It's just that King has pissed off people so much he's inspiring nearly Chris-chan levels of contempt.

Personally I've always been ambivalent about Snyder. On the one hand, it's kinda hard to tell when he's joking and when he's selling a serious concept for drama sometimes. On the other hand, I can enjoy a silly ride for what it is.

Snyder is a Good Writer with Good IDEAS but every time he hijack himself with SHITTY ending.

Giving everyone 8-10 yr old children out of the blue isn't shaking up "status quo".
Batman and Superman are in the same places the were 30 years ago, chasing the same bitches, fighting the same fights, with some truly awful new villains added to their rogues.
Flash is a continuous battle against his legacy sidekick and a never-ending stream of Reverse-Flash knockoffs.
Wonder Woman is short cycles of meaningless crap-fights against Ares and co., while writers quibble over the details of her origin story.
Green Lantern at least won his fight against his legacy knock-off, but all that's meaningfully changed in Green Lantern is cast-bloat.
Aquaman will continue to be Arthur's struggle to be relevant, while defending himself against the most underpowered arch-nemesis of any major superhero.
The DC universe outside of Elseworlds is completely stagnant. 20 years ago it was the same shit. 20 years from now, it will be the same shit.

>fucking it up when they get a good thing, trying to change it back to what it was
You ignoramous, that is literally the definition of Status Quo in comics. Temporary, meaningless changes that revert back to the same old shit.

>good IDEAS
I hesitate to call giving Overmonitor, Anti-Monitor the World Forger a mom a good idea when I'm still confused how the shit Mandrakk, Nix Uotan and the other Monitors now fit into the newly minted Monitor family.

The DC Cosmology is just a putrid vat of meta-nonsense at this point.
The Marvel Cosmology has way too many Beyonder-tier beings in it, but DC's is just incomprehensible garbage.

>way too many Beyonder-tier beings
>Beyonder-tier
Acktually from what I remember of it Beyonder-tier is very strictly limited to a couple things after the latest wank confirming them as the denizens of the Wild White Spaces beyond the multiverse: The Beyonders proper in Secret Wars, Beyond Corp (who were limited by only projecting part of their power through one guy) and probably the Infinites (who were actually pretty nice guys, and felt so bad about their fuckup one of them gave up its life to fix the damage).

Like, I'd believe they'd thrash the First Firmament if they took down literally every other Marvel abstract including the LT without casualties. But the point is-almost everyone else seems to have a powerlevel. The Beyonders stand out as the ones "beyond" the normal rules of existence.

Kinda funny and ironic that they're still limited by time.

It is, isn't it? Almost as ironic is how the writers seem to forget that considering they BEAT UP ETERNITY but somehow failed to spot Doom, Dr. Strange and Molecule Man heading backwards through time to lash together their own bomb into a superweapon. So I guess the Beyonders beating up Eternity was the cosmic equivalent of Mr. Magoo beating up some thugs by accident without being able to see them.

Was there a storytime that I missed?

Eh, didn't care for it. I'm more curious to pick up White Knight Revenge or whatever the sequel is called.

Snyder Cappullo kino back on the menu.

So far the first 30-something pages blow Tom King's run out of the water. Everyone is interesting, everything is fun, and I want to know more.
And this joke is cheesy, cheap and required 0 effort. But it still made me laugh my ass off.

>hey guys, instead of doing anything interesting with any other our characters let's do another Batman comic
>yeah! And let's choose to promote it more than any other title that needs a sales boost

>le promotion meme

What I find funny is how Snyder has pretty much raped DC with his shitty lackluster ideas where it's almost unrecognizable but King made Batman sad is what pisses Yea Forums off.

With the current state of Batman, he needs a fucking boost. Besides, Snyder stated somewhere this would be his last Batman story for a long while, so we may as well cherish it. Because we'll likely get Bendis on Batman once King leaves.

awful

>What I find funny is how Snyder has pretty much raped DC with his shitty lackluster ideas where it's almost unrecognizable but King made Batman sad is what pisses Yea Forums off.
What the fuck are you talking about? Any reasonable person hates both. Fuck off with your whataboutism.

King making Batman depressed isn't what annoys me, it's his godawful storytelling. He knows how to build a plot and can stick a landing better than Snyder, but the way he works the material sucks.
Or to put it another way, King knows the basics of tailoring a suit, and the end product will have the basic shape of a three-piece, but he butchers the cloth, adds leather in places where it shouldn't be, and covers the rest with too many stitches.

Just because it's a meme doesn't mean I'm not right. Promote something besides Batman to the masses and you will see an increase interest in your other IPs.

You are wrong and delusional.

>With the current state of Batman
Batman is doing great, it's the other characters like Hawkman or Naomi that needs the boost.

How am I wrong? Does DC not promote Batman more heavily than any other DC character? DC always makes room for Batman when they're doing cartoons and comics.

Batman never dipped below 100K with Snyder, but King managed to get it in the upper 80Ks. You need to be skilled at failing to do that.

They've promoted other stuff and it simply did not sell.

>Let's spend 1/3 of the issue on a pointless "is Batman actually just mad and just imagining everyth- lol nope it's all part of a superfluous Alfred keikaku to give 'Bruce' a happy life" gimmick and then the rest is just more empty exposition and Joker making bad jokes.

I had no expectations and I still was underwhelmed. It's also becoming alarmingly obvious Snyder just throws "wouldn't this be cool?" stuff into his comics that don't really have any rhyme or reason to be there outside of Capullo wanting to draw it.

But Batman also wasn't selling but they still gave him another heavily promoted book.

The comic is literally too smart for you.

That doesn't mean they should stop promoting them. Do you only want Batman to be successful DC character?

No, it's actually dumb as shit.

DC has been hemorrhaging money.

>But Batman also wasn't selling
Excuse you?

But they shouldn't stop promoting their only money mover either.

You think the comic actually take place in the future.

>Muh 100k

Boo-fucking-hoo. It's an entirely arbitrary number that only shows people are way more eager to gobble Snyder's shit than King's, which is fine because King was never one to do over the top balls to the wall EVERYTHING IS AT STAKE stories which is now basically Snyder's entire core gimmick now.

So's your face.

>But Batman also wasn't selling
That's why they kicked King off Batman, his Batman wasn't selling.

Have you no shame about defending King shitty writing here?

Are you retarded?

>People still defend King.
It's okay user, you're in safe hands here. King can't hurt you any more.

But shouldn't be trying to make more money makers? It's like having a grove of trees but only harvesting one and letting all the rest go to rot.

Bills and earnings are anything but arbitrary. Snyder writes a better story than King because the readers love one and are lukewarm at best to the other. They are not making art, they're writing a pulp story, and sales numbers are what matters most.

Bud, they don't sell.

If it isn't Batman or the occasional Superman book, DC let's them be neglected to death.

Attached: Batfaggotry.jpg (775x180, 154K)

They're never given a chance.

Maybe if DC promote them like they do Batman...

80k is still higher than anyone else.

They do.

Batman sells with poor writing. Batman sells with poor art. Batman will even move off shelves with poor writing and awful art.
That's hard to do with characters who don't have that rabid a fanbase.

Not like Batman.

It wasn't that long ago that C-lister like Firestorm or Starman were selling just as good as Batman.

Nigga, The Flash book gained new fans thanks to its crossovers with the Batman book. Do you understand? If Batman wasn't in the pages of Justice League it'd have lost about 10k readers. DC is trying to crack how to make normies like Superman, but with Batman you can release a movie where he's a big joke and an enormous ass who might be gay for Joker and normies will still find him cool as fuck because of it. DC could go out tomorrow saying that Batman fucked Robin when he was only 8 year old and the mini telling the shocking tale would fly of the shelves and be a highly praised.

Fuck, White Knight is all about Batman and Joker loving one another, the Waynes being nazis, and Batman being a terrible hero, and that shit was a fucking success. We're going to get the sequel in a few months.

Are you this delusional?

Are you? Those title used to go to 30 issues but now DC cancels them at issue 11.

So why even focus energy promoting Batman? Do ads for characters that need the boost.

>The Flash book gained new fans thanks to its crossovers with the Batman book. Do you understand? If Batman wasn't in the pages of Justice League it'd have lost about 10k readers.
This all sounds like faulty conjecture and doesn't really get to the point. There's no code to crack here, just promote your other characters.

Different times, different markets. Retard.

>Sales is what matter!

I guess Bendis only did good comics at Marvel. And every single event comic is good now.

Holy fuck

Illiterate scum who's never cracked open a comic to save his life.

If anything today's market is ripe for lesser known characters. Not to beat a dead horse but Marvel got rocket raccoon to be a popular character.

No they didn't. His comic got canceled after, what, 7 issues?
Oh he was one of the many characters in the Gotg movie, big whoop, I guess you wanted to put up that retarded delusional screencap but you can't find it in your folder.

>No they didn't
Ok buddy, the fact that normies know rocket better than Zatanna is by no means fault of DC's Batman first policy.

They really don't.

Yeah they do. One has been in a major movie franchise and the other one has been in a cartoon.

just my 2 cents here, outstanding comic, best snyder ever did and I loved metal, and the run across america comic with dent he did with romita, this is better than both, kings run was boring as shit, king is a much smarter man than snyder and a more competent writer, but holy fuck dos my niBBa snyder have some cool ideas, he's like a little kid add gregs art to to the mix and you have a winning combo

whens part 2 coming out lads?

I really like it. It's weird, but in a good way.

I also find it funny that even after the fucking apocalypse happened the Joker's severed head is still around and Batman goes out of his way to keep him around.

>goes out of his way to keep him around.

it was probably planted there in the desert near the underground location with the cloning machine for clone bats to find after he leaves the cave, the head will have some valuable information at some point for sure

kinda reminded me of the tree head guy mimir from the recent god of war kratos carries around, maybe snyder played that one too

>Naomi
fuck you Bendis

It´s nod bad but I was quite dissapointed first because the whole thing about Bruce being crazy actually made me beliebe this would have a more serious tone, like what if Batman was actually just a crazy delusional orphan in a regular city without supervillains, the story could have the idea that he could find happiness on his own way or trying to use better the psychological aspect, I actually wanted a story where Bruce were forced to face the idea that all this is ilogical and insane and maybe try to move on, letting Batman rest and save little Bruce to be a rotting corpse who was supposed to survive and not die along with his parents. The fact that this is technically no canon is better because you can close this without having to worry if Batman behaviour is right or not or with Bruce facing the world without heroes, a world like the real world, where we just have to keep living. In the end it was a ruse and the we are again in fucking battleworld against some mega evil dude who fucked everything and of course Batman is the only one who can save us, not a bad idea but a bit repetitive if you consider what could have been, that´s what I think at least
