Millar has shown he has the capability of writing deep and engaging stories. He just doesn't do it most of the time. If anything, Morrison helped him out with the story and some details. If you hold a gun to Millar's head and tell him he can't do anything edgy ever again he'd be one of the best writers.

His Superman is incredible. Superman Adventure is one of the best comics ever.

His other comics are almost all garbage. The Ultimates isn't terrible, but it is NOT aging well. Almost all of his other work is flat-out unreadable. Even stuff that seemed decent at the time (Starlight, Jupiter's Legacy, et. al.) has already aged poorly.

He's just a bad writer. It has nothing to do with him being "edgy". Yea Forums has this weird idea that anything that isn't "le so campy heartwarming lighthearted comfy le feelz XD" is "edgy". Millar has no talent other than the ability to write Superman surprisingly well. Otherwise he has literally zero writing skills. None of his non-Superman stuff is really worth reading. I wouldn't hate him as much if he didn't act like he's responsible for the success of any of the movies loosely based on his work. Pretty much every adaption stripped out 90% of his actual ideas and writing (ie, the shit parts) and built the story from the ground up. But he still loves to talk about how successful 'his' movies are.
His writing is also utter shite, but so was everyone else's at Marvel when Joe's circle of cronies were running the asylum.

Oh fuck off. If anything he gets too much recognition considered just how many of his shitty stories get bought by Hollywood. Millar has only two settings with his comics: edgy garbage and mediocre movie pitches. Sure, he might have moved away from the edge more recently but he can still write his fair share of stinkers. I remember reading Reborn, the Magic Order, and Empress not that long ago and felt like I was personally having my intelligence insulted with how sloppy the writing was and those were some of his more current titles. Even his "good" books like Jupiter's Legacy are carried purely by the art alone, the writing or even the general concepts themselves are never all that interesting.

Writers like Ennis and Ellis who are generally pretty edgy usually get a pass because they can actually write good stories to back up the edge. Millar's edge is far more apparent because it's edge paired with some of the worst stories ever written within the medium.

It's main sin is that it's just incredibly predictable.
