I think black hair is avoided solely because it doesn't read all that well in a cartoon. The linework disappears and you create these uncomfortable negative spaces on screen whenever your character is in a closeup. In Harmony animation it seems to be a lesser concern, but for traditional animation not using black as a color seems to be a general rule.

A school uniform is not made for extended use adventuring in a forest/swamp. It will get tattered and need to be replaced at some point. With the apparent fuss about Ann trying to hold on to bits of Earth, that will probably be a focus of an episode as she comes to term with staying there for a while.

Anyway, there seems to be some effort put into world building here, so I'm hopeful. There seems to be some acknowledgement that humans are big and very tall for land animals, and relatively injury tolerant. If the frogs are cold blooded, Ann's ability to be active in all weather and maintain high aerobic activity indefinitely may come up, and her need for ten times as much food as the frogs might cause friction.

I'm really rooting for Amphibia to be a fun adventure cartoon, but I can't lie; OP's teaser really makes it seem like the show will just be silly frog village antics.

Hopefully, Disney Channel's marketers are saving all the "lore" and "selfish Pacifica-turned-hero" drama for us to be pleasantly surprised with in later episodes.

It seems most Asian cartoon creators don't like portraying their own race with epicanthic folds. Even anime does the same. Rather than using "slanty eyes," most Asians will draw themselves either with dot eyes or with big, cartoony bug eyes, like in Amphibia's case (don't ask me about Anne's Asian friend, but Anne herself is definitely being drawn the same way Matt would draw himself, as so clearly shows).

As for her big, floofy hair, my guess is as good as yours. I'm thinking it's just a result of the show's highly rounded art style; everyone has soft, curly-looking hair, kinda like on Gravity Falls. Anne and both of her friends have hair that looks like that, so I assume any character with a full head of hair would, too.

I have a problem with The Cleveland Show because the writing is incredibly lazy. Nobody said anything about coincidences or the creators of shows with PoC protagonists are PoCs themselves. Whether the PoC creator wants to represent their race/culture with a PoC protagonist, or if it’s two white guys creating a show with a PoC protagonist, it shouldn’t piss you off simply to see that PoC protagonist.

As long as the characters are written as actual characters WHO ALSO HAPPEN TO BE COLORED—Amphibia and CotC being good examples—Anne Boonchuy and Craig Williams shouldn’t make you mad because they’re not white. The same way Dipper Pines and Finn Mertens wouldn’t make you mad because they are white. All anyone should really care about first and foremost is if a character is likable/relatable and is part of an interesting story.

Trust me, a show that Disney will clearly try to push as their next Gravity Falls will definitely have plot. It just might be a little serialized than GF, if is any indication.
