Mm, I think Sokka is clever and strong enough to stand up to Azula. However, I can't really see them in a relationship. I guess Azula's crazy enough that, once her inhibitions about baka gaijins is tempered, she might go for brown dick because she can (and because Ty Lee hit on Sokka first).

As for Sokka, he's way too moral. This is a guy who stood up to Jet and said bullying an elderly Fire Nation man was wrong, even after the Fire Nation deciminated his community and destroyed what had once been his very happy family. He's way more principled than Katara, who would have drank Yon Rah's blood if not for Aang and Zuko (although Katara is more compassionate).

While I adore Azula's character, I'm deeply cynical about her chances at redemption compared to Zuko. Even if Azula was "redeemed" in that she moved away from authoritarian brutality and imperialistic ideology, I just can't see Azula ever being kind. At best, I can see Azula as a miserable old woman living in the outskirts of Republic City (God knows she'd be extradited when the Avatarverse Nuremberg Trials commenced). She's resolved enough of her hatred to agree to teach an especially competent young half-breed Fire Bender some stances, but she'd never be warm or gentle. If anything, the upset of losing the war would break down the affable pretense she employs with the likes of Long Feng and Zuko to render her completely grouchy.

My fanfiction aside, my point is that Azula strikes me as someone who will always be something of a cunt and a bully, things that Sokka would never abide by even if she was willing to let him hit that.

These are just my interpretations, though. I get some people are far more generous with Azula than myself so if you want to argue the case I'd be happy to hear it.

No need to apologize user. I see your arguments and I to agree that both Azula will always be somewhat of a cunt and bully which is a part of her charm and Sokka being too moral. It would be a miracle for a working relationship between them to occur in the first place, and another one for it to blossom into love but I could see it happen if everything worked right.

They would need to have something that would force them to work together for a long period of time, and it has to be months at least. They're going hate each other and no kind of relationship can occur without some kind outside pressure, such as survival, and time. It would take months and lots of fighting, both verbal and psychical, but they should start to rub off on another. It happens to everyone when they stay with someone for a long period of time. Azula may become somewhat nicer not enough to lose her charm though, mind you through pragmatic reasoning "sometimes it's better to use honey then vinegar" while Sokka may loosen a bit of his morals out of again, pragmatic reasoning. If something romantic where to spring forth, it most likely would be psychical attraction, which then it would take months, to years, before something considered love would actually happen. Again, it would have to take another miracle for them to even stay together for that long.

However, I know something like that is a hail Mary of hail Mary's, and best boy with best girl is literally one in a million chance.

Okay, to clarify, I am not saying, "Firecest is canon". I'm saying, "After Ursa left Zuko and Azula were in a household where violence, including sexually provocative behaviour, was commonplace".

So people who waifu Azula found her bedroom conversation with Zuko very arousing. Zutara fans adore the "I will save you from the pirates" scene. Neither are wrong. Both are sexually charged moments.

In the pirates scene, Zuko's behaviour towards Katara is very creepy. If I were in her situation, I would be utterly terrified. She's a young woman tied to a tree and this man from a country that has historically terrorised your own is tiptoeing around you, whispering in your ear, dangling your dead mother's betrothal necklace around your neck, speaking in dulcet tones about how you need to help him, etc. To young women, all these actions give off rape vibes.

Now before you accuse me of being a delusional Zutarian - I don't think Zuko means to do this. I don't think Zuko sat down and said, "How am I going to scare the Water Tribe peasant into giving up her friend? Hmm, I think I'll subtly imply that the pirates, my crew, and I will gangrape her. Yep. Great plan."

Zuko is canonically shown to be pretty autistic socially, especially with girls. Jin was basically shoving her titties in his face and it took him until the end of the date to clue in and put the moves on her. He nervously attempts to "woo" Mai with a seashell. Zuko in general, but especially Zuko in romantic / sexual situations, is hilariously inept.

The exact same thing is true with Azula. One moment she's half dressed, stalking "Zuzu" in the bedroom and getting way too close to his face...and the next she's screeching at a party about how "sharp" a boy's outfit is. Zuko and Azula have this tendency to act in a sexually charged fashion when they wish to abuse and intimidate others, but clearly don't recognise their behaviour for what it is since they act like spergs in every normal, healthy sexual situations.

What I think happened is that Ozai, being the absolute monster that he is, likely used sex as one of his many weapons when intimidating people. Obviously Ozai used brute force, but the guy is psychologically cunning. We see him bait Zuko into staying past the eclipse period by talking about Ursa. Ozai may prefer physical violence, but in lieu of that option the man enjoys a good mindfuck.

I could totally see Ozai subtly threatening a female palace staff member or making a lewd comment about a political rival's wife - especially when Iroh was crown prince and Ozai's status was substantially more precarious. Although Azula is generally more successful, both siblings attempt to emulate their father.

So baby Zuko and Azula see their dad talking in this sinister, low voice with abudant vocal fry. His eyes are half lidded. He stalks around the person in question. Ozai knows what he is doing is suggestive and a power move - all Zuko and Azula see is that Ozai did this and suddenly someone did what daddy said. Years later, Zuko and Azula behave in a similar fashion without understanding the implications of their behaviour.

And to blogpost about myself - I work with abused kids. I see this happen. I see little kids (usually girls) flirt with my male coworkers and when I ask them why they don't really know. They just know that this behaviour is what mom or dad does to scare someone or get something nice. Or, worst of all, what they have to do to make mom or dad stop hurting them.
