Fairy tales are already super edgy. They pretty much all started out 10/10 edgyness, and Disney only cut them down to ~7/10, but left a lot of obvious cracks where you can see the logical next steps. It doesn't take a creative genius to decide that the story of a young girl lost in another world full of mad men and psychopaths could be dark.
