I really dig the action

Basically a setup for Batman against the Reaper incorporated. The story was pretty comfy. Nice Alfred/Bruce dialogues.

thanks for the storytime

This story is much better than the Arkham Knight stuff in the main Detective Comics series. I generally like Tomasi's writing, but something about that just feels kind of off.

Jeez, I wonder what being rubbed out feels like? And do you still go to DC Heaven after?

To be fair, Mask of the Phantasm beat him there with this particular one

This is Tomasi's best Tec story period so far. All it needs is Damian.

I wish Tomasi would have led with this instead of the Arkham Knight

This is a good old fashioned Batman story

I love it when they bring up Alfred and his love for theater

Has the Arkham Knight plot been the entirety of his Tec run so far? I usually really like Tomasi but I heard that Arkham Knight story was a miss.

Thank you

He tried to kick the habit during Snyder's run on Batman.

Man, this is an edgelord if I seen one.

This cover makes no sense. Why does Bruce put books on his shelf with the bending facing the wall? How does he know what book is what? How does he keep track of anything? This fucking cover has ruined my day.

That is one OP power, too bad he seems to be really dumb.

It could be a bookshelf that you can walk all the way around, like in a library. Plus if he only has one boom like that, he’d know which one to pick.

It has it's ups and down, but the biggest problems are that the beginning was abysmal, memeable writing and that nobody was crying for a redo of the Arkham Knight in the first place

I like her. She’s already better than Catwoman.

Biggest problem for me, aside from Anton fucking Arcane working for some newbie from Gotham, is that they wasted the second half of Detective Comics #1000 for a villain that's gonna get taken down and forgotten in less than six issues? I mean, I know there's really no 'status quo' with DC anymore, and that's whatever, but do SOMETHING aside from set up a short, totally forgettable story.

4kids Gordon.

How can you not love Alfred.

who writes all this books?

They're references to previous Batman stories. Like how street names in Gotham are named after writers.

I don't know, better that than pull a Benis and spend a year trying to get Rurroh Zambot over

Oh God, that's right, they did the same thing with literally the first comic book to ever hit #1000; just another anniversary issue here, folks. And then everyone will have forgotten and dropped the Rogol Zaar thing the second that Bendis leaves the Super books.

It's the same thing.

Is this the same woman who can create a bunny girl clone of herself?

>he doesn’t know

To be fair, a lot of people were disappointed with the Jason reveal in Knight when they were promised an OC. Considering Tomasi wrote the tie in comic for Knight, he might have signed on thinking he was gonna come up with the back story for an OC, and now he wanted too.

Tell me that if the Arkham Knight starts showing up in the next two arcs of Tec

He has other caves filled with weird stuff, I live this kind of dumb shit.

Even Bruce's chest hair is in the form of a bat.

It's like he's an obsessive Elder Scrolls player.

No, he started with a Knightmare arc of his own. It was so shitty, King's Batman having nightmares and Tomasi's Tec having nightmares all at the same time.

>YOHOHO

Unironically, good for the colorist just pasting the exact same color if the artist isn’t going to even change the lines at all after their own copy and paste.

Show of hands, who's more interested and more on board with this plot than the one with Arkham Knight.

Dude. How?

Awesome

>that bat shaped chest hair
h-hot

this was fun. well done, DC.

>people don't know about gordon's constant habit to quit smoking
There was a comic he was vaping and Batman made fun of him for it. He almost started smoking again when he was Batmech. It's basically Tony and not drinking.

oh so that's where keeps his giant dice

>All it needs is Damian.
No.

I thought that it was going to be a rehash of that one. They even have a similar character and all.

....then its worth more?

phonetically yes. I

That man on the left corner looks a lot like bendis

Huh, the red casebook. Interesting

When I first saw this in the comic store today I was really excited that it might be by Morrison. Still happy to see based Tomasi using Morrison's plot device though.

The Reaper Inc

I fucking love Tomasi. This annual was fantastic and fun.

Except that Tomasi's was shorter iirc and it was definitely MUCH more positive. King's was cynical decompression and portraying Batman as broken while Tomasi's dream issues were about Batman facing his tough memories and growing from them.

I love Tomasi's Batman, and have since the nu52, and it's for that reason that you gave right there. His Batman is not broken, he's somewhat well-adjusted, he has no issues calling for help, he has a good relationship with his son and his father. And then you go to any other comic with Batman in it and CRAAWWWLING IN MY SKIIIIIIN

>2nd middle panel

Thought Alfred had started sprouting spikes for a moment.

I was fully expecting it to have been the girl, so we're already ahead on that front.

Great thing about this story and this issue, is that it's also sort of a rebuke against the idea that Batman should be handling street level crime. Of course, Reaper takes it farther than Batman does, but it's still a wealthy vigilante beating up on desperate, poor people who often don't have any other options.

A great example is at the beginning of the story, when we're not even aware of what's going on with the Reaper, the idea definitely comes across of just how incredibly disproportionate he is to the criminals he's mowing down like chaff. And then, when Bats is talking to the actual guy, it's pretty clear, reading between the lines, that what he's actually aiming for is the violent destruction of the poor.

God, it blows that this wasn't what was in Detective Comics #1000, and that they aren't pursuing this plot instead of Arkham Knight. This is so much more interesting and has a hell of a lot more to say about Batman as a character, and his impact, than the comics version of Arkham Knight does.

>Tomasi
Oh yes.
