No draw for people who didn't care about the games. No actors that are known to non-cartoon and videogame fans.

These dumb fucks.

3/10

Kevin Munroe happened.

Absolutely terrible movie. Barely even enjoyable to laugh at its incompetence while on DUDE LMAO

Too sanitized to draw the fans of the games in to support it, too paint by the numbers to draw in a mainstream audience.
I remember I saw this with my brother in the opening month and we were the only ones in the theater, and being raised on R&C games, we were disappointed. even the remaquel game was mediocre because it imitated the movie instead of just being an HD update.

It sanitized what made the original charming. What the fuck to works of fiction? They lack even a little bit of edge it's predecessors used to have. There's no contrast anymore.

>based on a video game franchise
>one that had its heyday on the PS2 ages ago
>even after that the last full-fledged game came out in 2009
>movie is a reboot and only slightly follows the lore of the games anyway so fans aren't going to give a shit about it
>all the changes made in the movie are solely to make it more safe and palatable to movie-goers
>end up with a boring generic movie that appeals to nobody
Pretty much everything

Well turning a franchise that satirized commercialism and turning it into a by the numbers hollywood movie it was making fun of probably wasn't a good start

Honestly I'll praise it just because it flopped so hard it killed the Sly Cooper movie and that shit was looking like a goddamn disaster and involved a franchise I actually like

Now I hear it's getting a 2D animated series of some sort, but that might just be mutterings from development hell

i heard that the guys who made sonic boom were working on the sly cooper show

The movie was scrapped after R&C bombed and recycled into a TV series by the Sonic Boom guys. They had ages finding a studio to back it though because apparently the humour was much dryer than any of them were comfortable with for a kids' show. Eventually PBS picked them up for a deal for episodes to debut this October. However, a few weeks ago it was stealthily delisted from the PBS site, which got people wondering what the deal was. Then the next week, it's announced that the PlayStation division have opened up their own studio independent of Sony Pictures that'll release TV, movies and cartoons based on Sony's videogames IPs, so presumably it wasn't a coincidence.

>Eventually PBS picked them up for a deal
Which PBS are you talking about, because I'm pretty sure it's not the PBS that's going to come to people's minds

Oh fuck, sorry. I meant PGS.

Never saw the movie but the game was good. Overhated, for sure.

They were chasing other movies instead of being true to their identity. No, seriously. This has been a problem for Insomniac in general for over a decade.

It was just a vastly inferior version of the original

It was a great Captain Qwark Guest Starring His Little Buddies Ratchet and Clank, but a pretty bad movie for Ratchet and Clank themselves.

Attempted to replace something with worse writing than the original PS2 game.

TJ Fixman, the same self-absorbed LE EPIC JOURNEY-obsessed douche who's been ruining the series since the PS3.

Tight dev schedule and movie changes also fucked up the remake
I thought Fixman out of all people got fucked over when the movie writers changed stuff to the point where even he disagreed with it.

>movie is a reboot
Stop using words you don't understand

Adding Dr. Nefarious and changing Ratchet's personality were mistakes. The series' plot works better if Ratchet starts as a lazy ass that realizes being a hero is all it's cracked up to be and more.

Pretty much, despite being TV pioneers Rainmaker really hasn't made anything of quality. Shit reboot and beast wars are probably their best stuff and even then those shows were pretty damn terrible.

Felt like one of those "movies" on youtube made out of cutscenes from a videogame without all the context that happens in between.

That's just the symptom resulting from how Fixman took the series thar up until then was all about improv satire and made it into a generic space opera.

A mixture of thing, Sony Pictures is an absolutely horrible studio, second worst in the movie industry, based on a video game that is well past its prime and no longer even popular with the core Playstation fanbase, no actors to push or do tours for marketing, it felt like watching cutscenes.

I'm not disagreeing with how the Future writing fucked shit up, but I just find that interesting

its a reboot retard it was even used as cutscene fodder for the game

The movie is an adaptation, the game they released around the same time is a reboot.

the game and movie are a reboot you are retarded and wrong

they took a simple, powerful story and destroyed it beyond recognition. it was about a naive robot looking for a hero to save the galaxy, and ratchet ends up becoming that hero in their search. what a tragedy, ratchet and clank was a gem. that britfag said it right, they became the very thing they made fun of.

What's the story in the movie?

I liked it.

at least they spared us sly cooper movie

Reposting from a previous thread.

>Too much of Quark, not enough of Ratchet and Clank.
>Making Ratchet an innocent, wide eyed wannabe hero from the beginning instead of some random asshole takes away his character development
>no scenes to actually develop Ratchet and Clank to become best friends
>Nefarious is still a great villain, but everything to do with Drek was unfunny or pointless unlike the original game

You can tell easily that the game writers had little to nothing to do with this stinker. Only thing decent about it was the game, and everyone says it's a shitty remake anyways.

Attached: b8f.png (499x328, 299K)

I still wonder what that would have been like.

show is coming this october

Snoy of california's writing + Sony pictures garbage writing = bad adaptation

But this was put out years before Sony turned into Snoy.

But TJ Fixman's script wasn't even used.Seems dumb to blame him for the movie.

Then again you seem to have the hateboner for him while I actually enjoyed ACiT so who am I to say anything?

>Making Ratchet an innocent, wide eyed wannabe hero from the beginning instead of some random asshole takes away his character development

I knew from day one that this would be changed. People tend to forget nobody at Insomniac liked asshole Ratchet and that was changed literally one game in.

>No scenes to actually develop Ratchet and Clank to become best friends

Now THIS was a bigger problem with me. The games mostly work with the good dynamic between the more laidback and adventurous Ratchet bouncing off Clank more nerdy and calculate view. They barely got any screentime to develop their friendship but the story tries to push us the notion that they become best friends.

Ratchet being a low key asshole was fun as fuck. Him being too caught up in fame and glory was what salvaged Deadlock.

The game writers had everything to do with the stinker. Nobody liked Chairman Drek or Ratchet in the original game.

Sly would be nothing but a snarking asshole
Murray would be nothing but LOL FAT jokes
Bentley would be nothing but neeeerrrrd jokes

Clockwerk appears constantly through the movie and keeps having wacky mishaps with his mechanical body and minions. Lava Slugs are small and cute babble in high pitched voices

the other members of the Fiendish Five are all together in a single location instead of spread across the world. Ruby uses ambiguous "evil" magic like Facilier instead of zombies and skellies and such because Muh Chyna

Sly finds a corny ass recorded message from his dad (who Sly thinks didn't love him or some bullshit) after the mandatory end of second act sad time and that motivates him again

Carmelita has yet another new VA (which was a given)

ratchet wasnt cool

>Not bringing back Miller
It could have had the best script and animation in history but it would have still been SHIT

SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIT

Seriously. Ratchet in GC and beyond doesn't even feel like the same character. He and Clank get dumped out of a plane and he doesn't even react negatively while Clank does. It's nuts.

Putting Dr. Nefarious and having him be the real main bad guy (I like him but this movie was somewhat based off Ratchet & Clank 1 so Drek should be the main bad guy to the end), the movie was more about Captain Qwark then Ratchet or Clank, weak asf fight scenes, and Drek pretty much being more of a joke then threatening.

Not enough rosario dawson

Real talk though, Dreks motivation was a MUCH bigger improvement.

Wanting to create the perfect world because he lived in a shithole his entire life made more sense than harvesting the best parts for a planet you're gonna destroy anyway

>TRY AS HE MIGHT, RATCHET COULD NOT BREATHE UNDERWATER

When the best jokes are a cameo of Daxter and the PS1 startup sound, you know you fucked up.

Are we alive again?

What's with sony and making furry guys I want to fuck so much

Ratchet and Clank got way too kiddy with its presentation in its later games, IMO.

NOVEMBER 8 BOYS, MARK YOUR CALENDARS

I fear he'll be pussywhipped in the show.

>remembering actually really liking the SlyxNela ship when playing BoT as a wee shit
>honestly infuriated when she betrays them

I dunno what kind of relationship they'll strike. 4 kinda fucked things up on that front so hopefully they'll just fucking ignore it and go back to the Sucker Punch canon

>But TJ Fixman's script wasn't even used.Seems dumb to blame him for the movie.
100 times this, he left the project because Kevin Munroe wanted the series to be more approachable to non-fans.
>Seriously. Ratchet in GC and beyond doesn't even feel like the same character. He and Clank get dumped out of a plane and he doesn't even react negatively while Clank does. It's nuts.
You can blame that on Insomniac and the fans, even back then they found RC1 Ratchet's "jerkass" personality to be too harsh.
>When the best jokes are a cameo of Daxter and the PS1 startup sound, you know you fucked up.
You also fucked up by not including the post-credits scene with The Plumber, but that's understandable.

Well placed betrayal really enhances the story.

Yeah I'll give you that one, it does make a lot more sense this way. Still I don't think it was worth making him look like a complete joke.
>Come and Buy a Pixelizer

I disagree, Drek's motivation of money fits with the theme of OG Ratchet and Clank. Throughout the game you see characters obsess with money or fame. Having the villain of the 1st game be a greedy corporate businessman who poisoned his own world to get his own people to pay for tickets to a new one built by him, made from pieces of other inhabited planets that drift into the sun when their piece is taken, only to reveal he plans to repeat the process for as long as possible once he deals with Ratchet and Clank has more depth then at first glance. The fact that he's willing and does in fact kill trillions of people just for money is a simple motivation, but executed very well. Drek and 1st game Ratchet are selfish, but Ratchet grows as a character while Drek doesn't. Ratchet sees he could become like Quark and Drek, so he chooses to fight against that and be a hero.

New Drek had the same motivation but acted more goofy. He even says he lied about his tragic backstory in the same scene he mentions it on the commercial. Something along the lines of " The toxic atmosphere of Oroxon, which may or may not have caused by, Drek Industries has a solution."

>COME
>AND
>BUY
>A
>PIXELIZER

I read Sly is portrayed as modern Robin Hood, which is far from truth. He pickpocket strangers and keep the loot to himself.

I was just talking about this some other day

Insomniac didn't make the movie

Would you say that?

Aside from incongruities like museum robberies his family’s MO is stealing from other criminals, not randos

By strangers that’s usually villainous henchmen

Even on vacations?

M-maybe

Yeah like I said, there's a little bit of a break/disregard for the honorabur thief bit for comedy purposes

But really the good the Gang does has to outweigh a few misdemeanors *cough*likestealingthecrownjewelsofengland*cough*

Cartoon would have probably been better cause there would be no big budget hollywood arrogance to redefine everything about the property to appeal to nonfans.

The thing is, though, why harvest the best parts of planets if you're gonna destroy them? It'd be more cost efficient to just grab whatever bits are handy, slap em together, and TELL people it's a luxurious new planet.

never playing the game might've skewed me
but I thought it was alright.

Because harvesting the bad parts of planets would mean less quality and in turn less profit. Drek wasn't gonna profit from the planet by just getting his race to live there if Orxon is any example.

He was going to use the planets resources until it became a toxic planet just like before, THEN destroy it.

Ratchet in the original games was a selfish asshole mechanic with a chip on his shoulder. Watching him go from that to legit selfless hero over the course of the games was a big part of why I liked them.
Making him a starry-eyed wannabe space cadet form the get-go was a mistake.

soulless
