People probably just don't know where to start. With movies there's definitive beginning and the end of the cycle. Even if rebooted, movies are recast, giving it distinction and its own continuity.

I personally think that they are over thinking it. At DC Dan Didio only publishes comics in which the writer and artist have a passion for the character. In theory this is a good idea but not when you're competing against Marvel and are in an industry that probably will not exist for the most part 50 years from now.
DC has a significant amount of characters that could give DC good numbers initially such as the Atom, Zatana, Adam Strange, Elongated Man, Trigon, Beast Boy and Cyborg that are just sitting on the shelf collecting dust.
