They try to watch it like a monster truck show, or a boxing match, maybe professional wrestling or a match of figure skating, in which the appeal is the raw spectacle. But the shows are not merely about giant robots. They're about the everything leading up to those Giant robots being used, and the fallout of those robots being used. Ironically, it's a very sort of internal type of story. Yes, that boy is piloting a giant robot, and that's cool; but how does he feel about it?
Think back to Guren Lagann. The drills were undeniably cool, yes, but would the show have been half as good if the dynamic between Kamina and Simon didn't exist?

Vesperia is overrated dogshit. The story is shit, despite the same elements and story beats from other tales games being here, it extremely generic and boring. It flows from one boring plot point to the next boring plot point while being held together by horrible and dull antagonists. The characters range from decent (Repede, Yuri, Flynn) to shit (Rita, Karol, Estelle). I mean Rita is a garbage character, I wish she died. Karol is annoying as fuck, I wish he would either die or shut the fuck up. Shit the the Hunting Blades are pointless, they serve no purpose and literally were built up and not even followed through on. Alexei is downright retarded and had no presence until he decided to crash the story with no survivors. Half the game feels pointless, you spent most of the game aimless going from place to place with nothing of significance happening. But that could all be forgiven if the gameplay wasn't shit as well. It only becomes manageable after 50 hours in the third act. Yuri does three hits and switches hands which slows shit down to a crawl. You can only do something about this way last into the game. You won't even have enough skill points to properly unshit the combat shit until the second play. The game has mechanics you will never actually use because it doesn't give you sufficient explanation to the mechanic nor does it ever allow you to have enough skill points to even try to figure out the mechanic until second play through. It is also extremely easy to miss side quests or fuck them up locking you out of shit, this game is horseshit.
