Not story focused, story irrelevance. SA2, for all intents and purposes, had nothing to do with Sonic outside of the Government of all things trying to cover their asses. Of course everyone knew Shadow wasn't Sonic, only the news and other legal allegations stated what was false allocations. It was Shadow's Prequel: the Game. Not a real Sonic Adventure.

That wouldn't have been a big deal itself, since even the first Adventure had a outside of Sonic focus somewhat, but it's all thanks to SEGA bringing back Shadow. He NEEDED to stay dead to be a good character, to have his story MATTER. It's not like they couldn't have brought him back in like the 2010s for nostalgia sake, like they did with Tikal in Runners and Forces for both him and Chaos. Doing what they did, justifies the hate for him. A real fan of Shadow based on SA2, wouldn't be happy all that shit was for fucking nothing.
