Did Nick hate this show? I felt like they never promoted it or aired it as much as FOP.
Did Nick hate this show? I felt like they never promoted it or aired it as much as FOP
Every show that got cancelled by them they've hated.
I’ve always found the show nothing special, I have no idea why there’s an actual fandom for the damn thing.
I remember seeing it quite a bit so I'd say no
If the rumors are true, Butch Hartman screwed Nick over with Danny Phantom.
Apparently he hired really expensive voice actors, massively inflated the budget, and used a very expensive animation style. Hartman did all of this without asking the Nick executive producers.
The second season of Danny Phantom had three movies and starred actors like Eric Roberts and David Carridine, so I can see that.
Plus, Nick wasn't making much money off the merchandise. They were very bitter about the whole thing. For season 3 they slashed the budget, canned half the crew, and moved the show to the night time slot. Some episodes in season 3 premiered overseas in South America or something before they aired in the USA.
It's nothing outstanding. The theme song is very catchy and people have nostalgia for it. I remember being very excited when it started airing. The show has this weird mish-mash. It's part Spider-man Part FOP esque humor. It's better when it's the former.
It's a real shame.
I hear that Sib Ventress and Steve Marmel (the head writers) were originally going to make season 3 of Danny Phantom as dark as The Ultimate Enemy.
Then they were let go.
Wasted Potential: The Animation.
It wasn't Spongebob. Back then, if you weren't Spongebob you didn't matter.
>Back then
It's worse today, you won't even get a shot in many cases and it needs to be instant levels of success
Television is in a bad way right now. Look at the television guide - there's absolutely nothing good on. The only thing airing right now that's good is the Chernobyl miniseries, and it's on goddamn HBO.
Ooh what’s that about?
True
>Ooh what’s that about?
user you know what Chernobyl is right
Well the incident, but is it about events leading up to it? The aftermath? Is it more historical or does it go full sci fi with mutants?
I remember one movie was awesome. Danny killed his family or something and begged to have ghost form ripped out of him.
I can't remember much but it was pretty hardcore.
He didn’t kill his family, they were just at a fast food restaurant that would later explode and the reason they were there was because Danny’s teacher wanted to talk about him cheating on a test and say he would end up working at the place. And it was an alternate timeline shown in a flashback
Yeah, that's "The Ultimate Enemy"
It's more or less agreed to be the best episode.
Dark Danny's voice is like black silk being dragged between my legs, unf
Boi if you got HBO go binge the first three episodes tonight. It's about the accident and then how they fix that big it a fuck up.
Well, it was a show that wasn't Spongebob or FoP, so of course they hated it.
speaking of rumors, did Butch's beliefs really impact Danny Phantom that much? keep in mind this is also the guy that created FOP, clearly supernatural stuff is his bread and butter
The popular narrative is that Butch Hartman became a born again Christian around 2006, and then decided to retcon the existence of ghosts in season 3 because they were "too occult."
I could never tell how much of this was true.
Yes, Butch definitely became a Christian in the mid aughts, but Nick had told him on multiple occasions to tone down Danny Phantom. Vlad Masters was supposed to be a straight-up vampire in the drafts but an executive told him that was too much, so they changed Vlad into another halfa.
Danny Phantom was Steve Marmel's baby and when he was sacked the show was basically a zombie. The tone changed in a major way in season 3 - it's almost a good thing it died before it could get worse.
You forgot that the ultimate enemy gba game came back at a massive loss (no it actually sold well but the company who made it took most of the profit)
There was also something about buch spending a shittone (1-3million) on this wrestling shit to promote the ultimate enemy.
tldr; butch cant handle money, think of him as the cartoon equivalent to tim schafer.
They just hated Butch Hartman. They gave Legend of Korra enough leeway to get away with a gay kiss, but forced Butch Hartman to add Chloe and an annoying dog to FOP, destroying the show.
>Wasted Potential: The Animation.
Miraculous ladybug is the king of this.
fuck this timeline.
Nick couldn't milk it as much as FOP
on the bright side we got a pretty neato fan comic out of it.
Holy SHIT Danny Phantom is like the Mecca of fan material. 15 years going and the fandom is still making content.
Thanks for replying user. desu the ghost retcon is an interesting idea, but in the context of the show makes no sense at all. Some of the ghosts were clearly the souls of deceased humans, and evidently Nickelodeon didn’t have an issue with producing and airing those episodes. Sounds like a butch decision 100%, did he try anything like this with FOP?
also my captcha was about stairs, it knows I’m in a DP thread
It was a Butch decision. He became born again.
Yeah its kinda crazy how much love and dedication exists in such a fan base, personally I'm glad.
Yeah, they're number one with a bullet.
Are you new to the Spongebob syndrome? is the thing killing Nick and there's a possibility this ran the same faith
>no episode of Danny getting captured and tortured by the GiW
wasted potential
Oh yeah, thank God things are different now
>David Carridine
I mean, he would've done it for a nice piece of rope so I don't think he counts.
Don't forget the comics
HA! Gaaaaaaaaay
he seems more like a boomer dad who understands memes than born again
>I hear that Sib Ventress and Steve Marmel (the head writers) were originally going to make season 3 of Danny Phantom as dark as The Ultimate Enemy.
Damn, Ultimate Enemy was my favorite arc and I basically consider it the series finale. I would have loved to see that.
Good Danny Phantom episodes that were never utilized:
-Danny escapes from the Guys in White's HQ
-Jack and Maddie almost dissect Danny
-Danielle is adopted
-The Fenton family beat up Vlad, together
-The Fright Knight teams up with Vlad when Plasmius takes over the Ghost Zone
-Flashback episode to Vlad and Jack's college days
-Walker becomes a recurring villain
-More Clockwork, anything is fine
-SOL shenanigans with ghosts like the Dairy King and Wulf
-Paulina getting a stronger role
-Sam learning to stop being a cunt
-Did I mention Clockwork?
-Moar Clockwork
Fuck butch, as much as I would give my fucking soul for a Danny Phantom reboot I woudn't want that fucker to touch it with the worlds longest pole.
Butch Hartman tricked patrons out of their money when he met his Kickstarter budget for his cartoon channel and then revealed that it's a Christian entertainment channel.
...
...I'm starting to think that Butch Hartman has a bad relationship with money.
Can you imagine the possibilities if you had Danny's powers?
that's kinda the same as how most mainstream animation channels sell themselves as cartoon channels and then reveal they are LGBT entertainment channels
Danny could nerf most of the Justice League
In the episode he went evil, he single-handed destroyed the world.
Vlad alone became the most powerful man on Earth with only a fraction of Danny's talent.
He can also and very easily I'll add, pull out your fucking entrails.
Can we all agree that nobody cares about Tucker?
Danny's friends in general were really underdeveloped and Sam was much fucking worse than Tucker by a landslide.
It has some really great fanfics...and weird arse crossovers.
These two were the biggest reasons I couldn’t get into this show, each of them were so obnoxious in their own way and even worse they still end up at equal levels of annoying.
It’s not a good sign that Danny had better chemistry with Dash and Valerie in one ep than he did with his best fucking friend in the other 50 or so.
has it
Lets not forget how badly they treated Valerie and that she literally only shows up when its plot convenient.
>When I was young, I laughed at Vlad Masters and his pathetic loneliness
>Now, I have become him
Let is pray butch never ever gets the rights.
Do you obsess over a girl who cucked you?
Hey, remember that time an user streamed all 52 episodes of Danny Phantom on Yea Forums a week at a time for a whole year?
yeah, kinda hope user does it again sometime, it was nice.
youtube.com
havent u seen the live action remake?
As a kid I couldn’t help but think the show would be so much cooler if Danny had to kill himself or die every time he needed to go ghost, and would be alive again a little bit after he was done fighting. His friends would need to help make sure nobody found his dead body while he was fighting.
I would've prefered that, honestly.
He should have straight up died.
>guess I'll die
They hate every show, including Spongebob
It's capeshit.
Lel Trafon you're STILL seething about that huh?
I'm thirsty for a Danny Phantom reboot, but I know that it would just end up being a half-assed Flash animation with weird voices and even worse writing.

>VAs are super old
>vlads VA is like 70 years old
just fuck my shit up senpai
>Vlad Masters was supposed to be a straight-up vampire in the drafts but an executive told him that was too much, so they changed Vlad into another halfa.
As much as the executive meddling ruined the show, this was one of the few instances they were right in. It wouldn't make sense if he was a vampire, there's no hints of other supernatural entities in the show outside of ghosts. Plus he makes a good parallel to Danny since he's the only other half-ghost in the series.
>They gave Legend of Korra enough leeway to get away with a gay kiss, but forced Butch Hartman to add Chloe and an annoying dog to FOP, destroying the show
Not exactly a good comparison considering those were YEARS apart and chances are it was a completely different team of executives at that point.
Not to mention they didn't really get away with it at all. Korra and Asami never actually kissed, they held hands and left into the spirit world, only to be confirmed as a couple offscreen.
>YEARS apart
Sparky in FOP and Korra happened around the same time. Chloe not ling after. Cyma wasnt shitcanned until after FOP aired its final episode.
>Most of the Danny Phantom VAs are either too old or dead
They'll always be young in my heart
shame they didn’t go with the spectre triangle
>It's part Spider-man Part FOP esque humor. It's better when it's the former.
this. i hate that FOP shit slapstick style comedy with those annoying as fuck Guy Moon single-note musical cues matched up in sync to explain whatever the character just did. it's like someone has a random sound effect quota to fill every 10 seconds and they MUST use one at every fucking oppurtunity
