We need a guide to writing underused and misused cliches.

Let's talk fusions.

Ok, what do you have in mind?

>Mine would be: Fusion should work like giant robots attacks and only be something use for a brief time to fight an enemy.

Ok Fusion when relating to machines should make practical sense if robots fuse it should not somehow become thinner
Fusion between organics should come at a cost so there is a reason why people just dont do it williy nilly.
For example
>Fusion is permanant
>It Damages the genetic makeup of the person
>Causes insanity due to shared Psychosis

Fusions combine in a seamless way to create a 3D archetype, rather than copy-pasting traits 1:1 and assembling some bipolar frankenstein monster. I have a whole another idea for that one.
X and Y wouldn't share voices and steal dialogue lines from each other.

The influences would have to be subtle like in real life. The calm intelligent side would hold his ground and the angry butch side would deliver some death blows and only try to pursue slightly because the calm side complements him.

The rational snarky intellectual would still use his snide remarks, but without using passive-aggressive formality talk. She'd still enjoy soap box speeches, but some of her dialogue lines would be more astute rather than poetic.

Powers wise that's easy, even a 5 year old can imagine visually what combined powers would be like even taking into consideration the personality. The butch one would use the ice powers as ice balls and boxing gloves if we take the most generic option. The more obvious and refined use of this power are devastating ice arrows over say using ice powers as travel function or snaring function.
Stuff like that.

Blossom and Buttercup would result in ATLA's Katara, who herself is almost bipolar in how she's so motherly and responsible yet at the same insane, vicious and cold. Most real life people who do not use their consciousness to form their own personality often end up bipolar like, while others end up too stubborn and one dimensional.

I'd love an almost meta show deconstructing archetypes, from the most 1 dimensional to the most 3 dimensional.

I think Steven Universe has probably done it the best to date re: building relationships through character interactions and dynamics until the point where said relationship physically evolves into its own person with agency and personality. Dragonball's is fun too, but that's more strictly for fights than anything.

Fusions should have mind of their own, and that means sometimes disagreeing with with whatever their original components would think in any situation.

Like a fusion unwilling to return to normal because he fears death.

Steven Universe handled it with the same experience and maturity Japanese writers handle sex; the maturity of a 0-17 year old.

I will give it 1 token of my appreciation to be the first one to pioneer it so extensively in terms of number, albeit so limiting and pathetically in terms of scope.

SU has a cool concept but the execution leave a lot to be desired. The fusion are inconsistent, some have their own agency like (Sugalite), while others are two people controlling one body (Garnet), while others are bipolar like Malachite.

Garnet is clearly her own gem (neither as hot-headed as Ruby nor as proper as Sapphire) and Malachite is a metaphor for an abusive relationship. It's not a perfect run across the board but the actual process is more what I was referring to.

>children should be allowed to have sex because in my cartoons it saves the world
>good writting

Why aren't you blaming Dragon Ball too user? Is it because you're full of shit and a faggot to boot????????

The problem wiht Garnet is that every time there was an emotional crisis she unfused, that is not being your own person.

It only happens when their reactions become too different or she questions her whole existence as a fusion.
Other times she's been shown as having her own emotions, like when they adopt a bunch of cats because she feels lost and her future vision seems useless.

The whole concept of fusion in SU anyway is that because the two personalities and attributes merge in a unique way because of the relationship, they're more than the sum of their parts. That's why a fusion like Malachite doesn't have her own voice, the relationship is forced.

Discuss this.

>red with green, green with red, and blue with blue
Either fuse them all with their own counterparts or with different counterparts, but this way is just stupid.

Gadget Hackwrench would be a Bubbles+Blossom combo, but leaning heavily on Bubbles' personality.

So now that I've guided the idea towards 1 direction about what fusions should really be, let's talk about context which lead into other ideas we've also known for ages.
Body swap and evil/good side cliches.

You can have that in the beginner episodes with the body swap/psychosis/mind control.

>Core personality traits
>They're 0 dimensional as hell.
>Every emotion is the same as the other with no differences.
>Other times they don't even represent the actual person.

Even in the best shows they always get lazy with this idea.

Having this as a mindset to write fusions would be good, the only problem is when you want to write at another level, then you need new writers who are capable of doing it, not just copying.

ppg fusions would have been cool if it happened during the original series.

>Blossom acts like Miss Bellum, is okay at it.
>Bubbles acts like The Mayor, is good at it.
>Buttercup pretends to play Blossom
>Doesn't even try to act like Blossom
What did the writers mean by this. That her character is so dumb and so stubborn that she can't act worth a shit?

Buttercup is not an actor and/or hates Blossom enough to spite her. It's not that deep man

These characters are genuinely appealing when they go completely MUTE.
I love my plot tools when they don't talk back uninteresting annoying shit.

My 1 wish would be to get rid of these nu characters. Including Wolverine, Jean Grey and Cyclops whom have the personality of a wet blanket.

>Characters pretending to be each other stereotype/flanderise one another.
>They're all written by the same writer
What did HE MEAN BY THIS.

I still believe Katara scared the fire out of Zuko. Her level of anger was Azula/Zuko tier.

I'd actually place Gwen below Blossom. She's so pseudo-realistic of a character she's actually more boring than the stereotype.
