What are Yea Forumss thoughts on Brian azzarellos wonder woman run? I saw some of the art and it looks good , is it worth a read ? How does it rank with other wonder woman runs ??

I loved it but prepare to Ree if you are a WW fan before Nu52.

It shouldn't be called Wonder Woman. It has nothing to do with the character.

>How does it rank with other wonder woman runs ??

Pretty mediocre.

How so ?? (Genuinely curious)

It's fine as an AU. As a new foundation of the character it was an unstable house of cards that fell apart pretty much the minute he left.

Right, so imagine Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne's butler and surrogate father figure. Now imagine a new Batman run where it is retconned that Alfred is actually a pedophile who molested Bruce and all the Robins. Now imagine that this is written by a bootleg Joss Whedon. Now imagine the plot was basically a glorified Jerry Springer episode.

That's Azzarello WW in a nutshell. Just go read Perez's run.

Attached: wonder-woman-7-amazon-mating-practices.jpg (1280x1972, 276K)

It was written by a man who had never read a Wonder Woman comic prior and is a rip off of many stories that came before it. People think it's an original 'fresh' take on the character, but it really really isn't.

>Just go read Perez's run.
This.

What year did perezs run start ? That's a shame the art is quite nice based in some of the images I saw

>It was written by a man who had never read a Wonder Woman comic prior
>is a rip off of many stories that came before it

1987

A rip off of non-Wonder Woman stories

Chiang's art is nice, yes, but the story and narrative elements are pretty bad. If you're really curious, best get yourself acquainted with some of the recommended material first, then you'll have context for why Azz is so divisive.

Runs.
>George Perez
>William Messnar-Loebs
>Phil Jimenez
>Greg Rucka
>Gail Simone
Standalones.
>League of One
>Legend of Wonder Woman
The current run by G. Willow Wilson is also decent right now, but it's hard to recommend something that hasn't finished yet.

League of One was soooo Good.
Does Moeller still do comic work? Haven’t read any of his work since the early 2000s.

It’s was perfectly fine

It's practically Percy Jackson in drag

It was great. it made people who didnt know about WW read about her. And subsequently drop it when the Finches destroyed the foundation and buried by Rucka.

I hated almost all of it but for some reason the costume really grew on me. Which is surprising because I hate silver on WW (except the bracelets of course).

I really liked it, shame they completely abandoned everything about it.
>it's so different!
Yeah it was a reboot, the entire universe rebooted, being different was the mission statement. Which they also abandoned because they didn't know what they were doing.

>The Hiketeia

Attached: grumpy woman.jpg (448x716, 64K)

>These MEN are your friends, Diana?
>More like sidekicks, mother.
Speaking of shitty WW material, fuck that piece of shit show.

Every thread. You’re an insecure little bitch

Also the new one was pretty good

Not a Wonder Woman expert, butI loved it. This was my introduction to Wonder Woman and was engrossed by the story and art.

Rucka's 1st run was very good, but I felt it fizzled out towards the end. His Rebirth series was also really good, with Year One being my favorite.

League of One and Hiketeia are really good one shots.

I'm biased because I hate the stories where wonder woman is an ambassador, and deal with the world.
I prefer her dealing heavily Greek mythology noise, and that's what this run is. Probably why I liked it so much.

It's pretty great, and is a decent starting point if only cause nothing is needed to be read before hand.

Some anons commended it for having the balls to try to change WW's origin, something almost never done.

It is a very detached from the read of her DC universe stuff, though. You could practically read it as a Vertigo elseworld (which considering Azzarello has done tons of Vertigo stuff is fitting).

Best one

Very good to great. The "it's not actually wonder woman reeee" stuff to fit in is getting old on this board. Chiang and Wilson are a joy to look at every page, and there's some creative concepts and heart

>League of One
The best JLA Wondy story loved the Dragon.

Id say within the top third. WW doesnt really have that many great runs in comparison to Bats and Supes.

I want to own Perez in floppies, so I'm waiting a few years for the hype of the movies to die down, so they're more affordable.

I'm also interested in pirating Azz' run, but I don't want my first impression of WW to be marred by a subpar run. Better to skip it altogether, or will it bias me against other stories involving the character?

Please hold my hand and tell me what to do.

It's the contrarian WW run. If you had little or no interest in the character than you probably thought it was good. Anyone who already had followed the character, even peripherally seemed to dislike it.

Personally I think Azzarello just isn't very good with capeshit.

New Perez run?

What? You can like a run and not consider it definitive you moron

The designs of the gods are pretty uninspired. Poseidon being some faggy manatee being the worst offender.

I like the Hades and Apollo though.

Calm down Azzy & go back to writing stories about Batman's penis.

Has Wonder Woman meet different pantheons before? Aren't there multiple gods in DC?

It holds some startling similarities with Grant Morrison and Scott Lobdell’s Superman runs.

Mostly over the fact that people seem to remember the changes more than the stories. They were both a lot of people’s first introduction to the comic version of the character, and all the villains end up being incredibly forgettable, while initially popular.

I remember comicvine holding multiple threads about H’El and the Firstborn respectively. Then it all fizzled out once everybody moved on to the next retcon or event.

Yeah but you have to admit that Hera, Eris, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hephaestus were all pretty lame looking. And this is coming from a guy that wanted to like those designs.

yeah. She even fought alongside Rama of the Hindu pantheon to take on the Titans who was attacking Heaven trying to take YHWHs power for their own a while back.

They met Thor, and Liam Sharp made a WW/Batman team up visiting Celtic deities.

For those guys I can't really disagree.
What would be an interesting WW villain that should come back?

not that guy, but I liked mos of the iterations except for Hades because I keep thinking the design is a reference to some obscure renaissance painting or somesuch.

What issue?
>They met Thor
Jeez I've been wanting this since we got to see Thor and Lokee in Sandman. When did this happen?

Most of WW's villains should come back. Her rogue gallery is probably the most interesting one in comics with all the bizarre bad guys she has.

I know like 2 I want back.
Crimson Centipede and Angle Man.
Both of whom I've never seen again post-golden age Wonder Woman.

>it's a /pol/ cant handle bantz episode

Rama was introduced Wonder Woman #148 vol. 2

Crimson Centipede kinda returned as a Hecatonchires and WOndy's dad back during... Simones run I think.

>Crimson Centipede kinda returned as a Hecatonchires and WOndy's dad
Weird but what about Angle Man? Seems like a good guy to come back with his weird perspective powers.

Some of the Egyptian gods turned out to be lords of chaos and she and Inza fought them in the moesner-lebb dr fate

Uninspired compared to what, the normal humans they typically look like?

It's the worst I've read
The Amazons became slut and murderous, blody killers
Wonder Woman lost the origin created by clay
Hippolyta suffered rape
This run was the worst thing that ever happened to Wonder Woman in comics

>Rape
So you didn’t read it

Only WW I bothered to read, like and buy.

>Greg Rucka
>Gail Simone
Hilarious

Wonder Woman is the one character I want to actually see an SJW-centric story arc around. Like there's a supervillain with nothing better to do with his time than bother trans women, and Wonder Woman has to agonize over whether or not to be a TERF.

I read about it online.

Wondy has more great runs compared to Supes. Supes literally has no great runs.

Fucking Carol has more good runs than WW.

>Fucking Carol has more good runs than WW.
Ms Marvel does have some memorable moments compared to Wonder Woman now that I think about it.

Lol. Name at least one.
>inb4 that mediocre Reed run.
I'm not even a Wondyfag, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Superman runs are so bad that something as terrible as Jurgens' run is seen as revelation.

Hiketeia is great. Calm down.

When dud Wonder Woman get her breast cut off?
Seems pretty dark for a super hero comic

i didnt care much for it, i didnt like rucka ww. they both rely on greek mythology and symbolism which is fine and totally makes logical sense for them to do so, because shes an amazonian princess. but i have no interest in greek mythology so i thought it was a borefest.

i like her in the justice league and thats it desu

Attached: ww greg rucka.jpg (600x922, 123K)

>Wonder Woman "surviving breast cancer" limited-edition single-issue

azzarello is just an edgelord

So much this.

Hippolyta a raped and so were all the Amazon's by Heracles and his army in the very beginning of Perezs run though...

Not that user, but it doesn't make you look, smart or like you got better taste when you post like that. Why not put forth your favorite runs instead?

Maybe rec some JL stuff that features Wondy?

I loved it. Considering it didn't tie into the broader DCU with the exception of the New Gods, it can very well be treated like an Elseworld, especially because of how cleanly it was developed, ended, and because of how much of it was ignored or retconned afterwards.

But he didn't include it.

I read quite a few JLA stories but she is usually just there to be pretty and smash some. Maybe there is a change in the newer runs because her popularity in movies but she rarely have anything to do. She barely speaks most of the time.

basically this, i like her when shes a supporting role

The thing about Wonder Woman is that her presence in the JLA is mandatory, but very few JL writers have ever bothered to read any Wonder Woman run at all, so their point of reference is other JL runs and Kingdom Come.

Why bother to read something when a new writer would come around and either either retcon or reboot everything from the previous run?

Diana's great. The gods are awesome. His take on the Amazons however Is fucking deplorable.

Pretty much THIS. It was the best Wonder Woman for fans who didn't know or care about Wonder Woman or her lore...and let's be honest, that's more people than anyone care to admits.
I'll admit to being one of those people but now I kinda care a bit more about her message of love and peace...I just don't care for it when it becomes super preachy like Rucka's return.

The title of "best Wonder Woman story for people who don't know Wonder Woman" of course was later supplanted by the movie.

But for a generation whose elevator pitch for a WW game often was "make it like God of War but in DC universe" and whose interest in Greek Mythology pretty much ended in whatever was in movies and video games at the time, it was a perfect introduction for the character.

Plus I loved the supporting cast and the petty gods. I wanted to touch more on The New Gods stuff. Hated FirstBorn stuff though.

There are 2 autists here that dislike it and go nuts whenever it's mentioned, ignore them and read it

>>William Messnar-Loebs
such an underrated run and writer

Definitely cant have an accurate depiction of the Amazons. Instead, they must be a near prefect fantasy Amazon society with no internal conflicts. DC's Wakanda.

>accurate depiction
Accurate to what, the straight up anti-woman propaganda the Greeks created them to be? Sorry to break it to you, retard, but even in the myths, they never killed the guys, but just kind of dumped them in a neighboring village. Marston, Halloway, Byrne designed the DC Amazons to be a deliberate counter to the negative perception of the concept.

>DC's Wakanda
>implying that's a bad thing

Fuck your accurate depiction, Brian.

Pretty much

Next writer fucked up everything good from Azz run.
N52 WW is basically an Elseworlds now so I'm good with it.

Angle Man came back around... 2000 something? He was Diana's dashing Italian Catwoman.

>the indigogo for a fundraiser book for his homelessness failed by $2

Superman is the king of Graphic Novels so is all good.

Angle Man had a sort of thing with Donna in Phil Jimenez's run.
He was part of the Donna backups from 179-187

>even in the myths
The Amazons were not a real thing at least not in any meaningful sense

It’s great. People talk shit, but t hose faggots defend ruckas trash run. I’d say it’s best viewed as it’s own thing.

I was and I loved it. If you liked Gail you won’t like it

They should adapt it in the WW3 movie.

Because those same people want to suck on Rucka's feminist dick based on his past series. Sort of like the current Tom King situation. When he first started Omega Men and Batman, his vocal fans would attack anyone that weren't a fan of the series. But look at them now.

One thing I noticed about the series is that the god's don't wear shoes, and one character throws away her shoes for some kind of symbolic act.

Why? What does it symbolize? Why don't the gods wear shoes?

Attached: Wonder Woman 04 RiZZ3N-Zone pg10.jpg (1280x1968, 734K)

Chris fucking Claremont. Damnit so many people on here don’t read comics. At least they expose themselves.

easily her best run in the past 10 years

Omit John Byrne and Eric Luke but put cucka and wail on there.

Pretty much, it’s agenda driven npc shit

Cinematic Wonder Woman already was a mix of Marston, Perez, and Azzarello.
Greek gods were depicted as shoeless. The Romans were the ones who covered them up.
