The show is on hiatus for now because Netflix wants to buy the franchise and produce a 4th and 5th season, but Ankama refused so far and are waiting for France Television's approval to produce it instead so they can keep the property of their universe.

Dofus movie, no doubt. We're at least getting a webcomic soon to continue where Wakfu S3 left off, but there's still nothing for Welsh&Sheddar or anything else that continues the Julith movie's plotline.

Gamakna is on hiatus because they want to change to another format.
Abraca's production is nearing its end, Kuri announced recently that he's finished doing all FX for it, and Ntamak also started working on a new project while they finish that. I'm hoping he'll reveal it at Annecy.
No Princess Dragon news at all, unfortunately, last news we had was Tot still talking to various studios in Japan to animate it.
On the other hand, there's Studio No Border in Japan that was founded with the help of Ankama, and may adapt some of their IPs (like Monster Slaughter).

Ah, I should add, the "webcomic" part is from an interview months back, and it was just an idea Tot was putting forward.
When he talked about it recently on twitter, he just said they're making a comic, so it may not necessarily be a webcomic anymore.
They were going to start working on it as soon as the Wakfu tome 5 manga was finished, and that's releasing on July the 5th, so they may have already started working on it or they will soon.

Quality of Wakfu was always kinda shaky, S1 had a few bangers and a lot of stinkers, but managed to hit the right notes when it counted so it got a pass.
I have no idea why anyone liked S2, it was horribly mediocre, the villain had no real charm, and the finale was a clusterfuck of retarded powerups and bad fanservice.
S2.5 was pretty decent, except Adamai's characterization gets more and more insufferable for no discernable reason.
S3 was just agonizingly bad, bad plot, bad fights, bad characterization, absolutely awful drama and a conclusion that makes no fucking sense.

So, overall, I would say 50/50, but even in it's best moments it's already 50/50, so it's more like 25/75. A few great moments in a sea of derivative and unfunny shit.

the problem is that the named characters are often WAY too close to the generic version of their class.

Wakfu hits a lot of check marks but also has a lot of problems, mainly stemming from how juvenile it is. I have always avoided Dofus because it seemed even more juvenile than Wakfu. But, hey, maybe it cycles around or maybe I'm just flat-out wrong.

You're mostly right, the show did pander to kids after all. The games are a bit more "teen" in the spirit, with lots of dumb humor and silly innuendos. But if is legit, the manga seems much more adult-oriented, I'll have to look into it some time.
I just like how "naive", light-hearted and colourful the WoT is, in this sense it's much closer to classical JRPG universes and it just tickles my nostalgia fiber.

Froggie here. What those two tweets mean is Netflix currently have the worldwide distribution rights for Wakfu (but not the creative rights, those remain with Ankama). Presumably they were part of the initial Netflix deal.

Ankama games and Ankama animation have never delivered a single project on time.

There was a huge rift appearing between Ankama's home and japanese studios, so it was really hard to get work done. When the japanese team finally had the first episode fully storyboarded, after a lot of back and forth because they kept changing designs (already a source or conflict before with green Ogrest), they sent it to FranceTV. If it was rejected, Tot said they'd take the project back to the home studio after finishing Kerub's Treasures. But the project was cancelled altogether, although since the whole plot is already written and the first episode storyboarded, they're still looking for a producer to continue it.

Yeah, that's what I meant when talking about Netflix's distribution rights, but I suck at explaining myself.

I also loved the original concept of Wakfu, but again, its execution was terrible and the game crashed because they tried to salvage it by making it an inferior Dofus.

The game's going well, but it still needs a lot of work. Unfortunately because of that the closed alpha wasn't getting enough feedback, and focusing on said feedback plus working on it and rushing to get new content so players would have stuff to test wasn't working.
So Ankama has decided to close the servers next month, and open the alpha to everyone when they have enough content to playtest in July, but only for 1 or 2 weeks, and then they'll close the servers again until they have enough new content again.
This way they'll be able to focus on feedback while the alpha is up, and then focus on the game itself when it's closed (and more importantly, long-run features like the Quest system that are a core feature of the game but won't be ready until pretty much the beta version)

Those Sidekicks are closer to what you say, they're actual characters, although most of them are low-cost randoms, as opposed to the higher-cost famous characters like Julith or Yugo.

Well, you're in luck because so far they've been pretty clear on their intent to avoid P2W. Because Sidekicks have an actual impact on gameplay, you'll be able to get them for free ingame. They'll probably be available on the store too, in case you want to unlock them faster, but the method of unlocking them hasn't been decided yet anyway.
Still, even if the economic model hasn't been entirely decided yet, they've stated so far that the shop will only have "Pay 2 Not Grind" services and cosmetic stuff (too early for them to actually show anything, but so far I could imagine Christmas/Halloween/"Classic Dofus" versions of weapons and Sidekicks available ingame, like Adult Joris instead of the ingame young one, or Wedding Dress Julith)

until a couple versions ago, most people got bored and stopped around level 30-40 because you reach a point where you don't have a new region to get XP from until level 50 or so so you're stuck farming in a small area for days.

and iops were OP as shit at those levels, the other classes caught up in PvP around level 60-70
