JSA Storytime: Gen13

Good evening owls,

I can't promise things won't be in Italian tonight

Sola lingua bona est lingua mortua.

lol

Hello, Storyteller.

Okay look. I don't hate T and A in and of itself. However, seeing it just annoys the shit out of me because it typically panders to emotionally immature and unstable shitheads who get legitimately angry when they don't get their milkies. I hate the idea of capitulating to the demands of entitled brats who have proven they don't deserve nice things.

So sorry for sperging out, I guess.

So OP, did you hear any whispers about the King thing?

nope, not following it/don't really care

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-04.jpg (960x1414, 395K)

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-05.jpg (988x1518, 445K)

Tits could be bigger
any thoughts on mordru?

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-06.jpg (996x1512, 420K)

They're so beautiful

Attached: F5CA42C8-4007-4FF9-9A78-F11937C501B6.jpg (688x1044, 277K)

i don't want to think about feeling hope

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-07.jpg (934x1476, 370K)

I think my allergies are acting up. Watery eyes.

I'm keeping my expectations low, but after years of absolute dick the tidbits are nice

Frank's Gen13 is great, too bad he only does shit stories now

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-08.jpg (938x1430, 341K)

>Thoughts on Mordru?
Speaking of pandering! Yes, he's been in present day before like in JSA and Amethyst, but that doesn't change how obvious it is that he's only here because the book about magic needed more magic based characters, and Mordru's name came up in search results.

Also, it's frustrating to see LOSH villains show up, but not the Legion themselves. Same thing with Emerald Empress a while back, and boy did that go absolutely nowhere.

>I can't promise things won't be in Italian tonight
Che Sera, Sera.

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-09.jpg (960x1502, 372K)

I used to love drawing pages like this, just weird tech suits and wires and stuff

I think it's sad that I could tell it was you freaking out and yelling at everyone in that thread

As the only King fan still on Yea Forums I’m sad. And we’ll never know what the insane change he wanted to make was

I haven’t read any comics today so I got nothing really to say

Hey OP. I keep missing threads so I never got an answer- was the Team 7 mission to Sex Island how Girfter and Zealot met?

based DCmagicfag

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-10.jpg (956x1474, 374K)

Uhhh, unsure! Zealot left Sex Island quite a long time ago.

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-11.jpg (1002x1526, 415K)

The Emerald Empress dicktease I agree with but Mordru showing up in the magic shit is fine

I wish I had that cool page from Books of Magic with him and Amethyst.

Did I post about how now that Young Justice is def doing a “lost in space-time” plot I’m 99% sure that’s how we’re getting back door Legion stuff?

Also apparently Bendis quit X-Men back when, haven’t got to the whole Hickman interview

just a loshfag

>King Thing

I assume this is something about a Marvel/Burger King collaboration like the DCKFC one shots, as o know no better.

It's possible and I like the idea, since it makes Griffles into even more of a Steve Trevor type character.

oh, not based, I take it back

now I had heard, long ago, a bit of chatter that Bendis was genuinely struggling with edicts on the X-Men and was trying to keep them viable within said tight restrictions

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-12.jpg (926x1484, 329K)

This one? There's another different page with Amethyst, but not both together I think
>file too large
when did Yea Forums change it's file limits?

Attached: The Books of Magic-162.jpg (3935x3025, 2.81M)

X-Men editors are historically the hardest to work with

>Copycat can't deal wih Yea Forumsviolence

Is Copycat a cute?

yikes jim lee's art used to be awfullllll.

It's very wait and see and I'm sure it'll drown under his cleverness, but Hickman might be strong-willed and big enough to fight X-Editorial

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-13.jpg (944x1476, 399K)

>The Emerald Empress dicktease I agree with but Mordru showing up in the magic shit is fine
It's not necessarily out of place, but it definitely feels like some eeny meeny miney moe shit.

>Did I post about how now that Young Justice is def doing a “lost in space-time” plot I’m 99% sure that’s how we’re getting back door Legion stuff?
No doubt. We all know Bendis is chomping at the bit to get his grotty hands on LOSH, but can't because Johns won't get the fuck on with Doomsday Clock.

Expect plenty of other not currently in use IPs as well. Jonah Hex is guaranteed, a few of the other Earths, etc.

Copycat might be a cute, but she's also in danger. Because, any female character I start to waifu gets killed. And she's got at least two death flags against her.

she is super cute
I'd write a Copycat solo mini

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-14.jpg (972x1516, 401K)

this is so shameless

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-15.jpg (952x1506, 374K)

Shame they'll all get killed off the third issue after Johns' Doomsday Clock embargo lets out.

Rebirth was a conjob!

uhhh, did they make that joke?

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-16.jpg (954x1498, 393K)

>this is so shameless
The bondage Tron suits, or the copy paste panels?

thats fun

Yes

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-17.jpg (862x1384, 337K)

I mean, it's not like they don't have it coming, having snatched up a bunch of teenagers and dressed them up in skintight outfits.

Is it okay to ship Bliss/Rainmaker?1

ship away, my good owl

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-18.jpg (904x1440, 381K)

Sarah can do better.

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-19.jpg (940x1420, 370K)

>Bendis struggling to work with an editor actually reining him in

I can see it. Especially since by the time he hit X-Men, he'd had zero oversight for years.

Oh yeah, they are definitely bedroom bound.

Ship them all! They'll probably end up pounding it eventually anyway.

I will honestly be shocked if this book does not end in an orgy.

these pages are so filled with stuff they actually feel really well paced, very high energy comic

I narrowed it down to Batman attempting suicide or breaking the no killing rule.

Damn, so only the xbooks could contain him.

I would love an uncensored history of battle for the atom it seems like some shit was going on with that

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-20.jpg (922x1438, 399K)

Boy, that "what race is talia" thread sure went somewhere

The gay priest joke, I'd say.

Roxy needs a better crush than Grunge. He doesn't deserve her.

Kamandi is one, cant remember what else was on that 2019 teaser

I also want to know about Remender's walking off

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-21.jpg (904x1394, 347K)

It certainly is nice that the plot came back.

Dare I ask?

>He doesn't deserve her
The great thing is, even Grunge knows it.

awwww

Attached: Gen13-07Dec-22.jpg (998x1510, 407K)

at least one person losing their mind at the knowledge that Zatanna was originally part turk

Grunge is a good guy

>:-)
She said Colon Dash Parenthesis?

genuinely sweet in my Gen13 comics? this is something I didn't expect

SCANNER IMAGE!!!!

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-00.jpg (800x600, 353K)

>elder statesman
A dead politician?

Part of it is that this is very much pre-decompression storytelling.

Turn of the century killed plotting speeds in comics.

this is true

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-00fc.jpg (981x1532, 838K)

Man, Caitlyn sure hates pants, don't she?

it's not quite Mike Grell level, but

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-01.jpg (975x1520, 813K)

>Zatanna is part Turk
Oh no, what a fuckin tragedy.

she is a genius after all

Did Grell ever draw the Gen13 cast?

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-02.jpg (961x1516, 700K)

the song is now stuck in my head

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-03.jpg (957x1520, 745K)

No pants can contain those hips ere long.

quickly skimming his comic db, he didn't do any Wildstorm books

Grell's women were all about the hips.
Until Starslayer. Then they were everything

the lettering is super underrated

plus ca change...

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-04.jpg (978x1507, 599K)

oh, shit happened in another book

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-05.jpg (976x1523, 685K)

You mean having each issue be a complete story in itself makes for a better reading experience? Interesting.

I think it's less a dislike, and more not realizing how silly she looks. Caitlyn is a bit of ditz after all.

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-06.jpg (972x1533, 660K)

I really do think that decompression is the worst thing to happen to modern comics.

this is the best comic storytimed here this week

it's genuinely fatal in combination with modern pricing, I agree

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-07.jpg (974x1534, 661K)

>Turn of the century killed plotting speeds in comics.
hell, it was happening decades before too. I just started reading Infinity Inc, and the first arc is ten goddamn issues long. There's one fight that takes place over four issues.
and that was 1984.

oh shit it's Trent Reznor again

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-08.jpg (963x1529, 553K)

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-09.jpg (949x1503, 746K)

>Le Gauche

Damn Lefitsts, infiltrating our comics!

page flows well

Richard Starkings/Comicraft was a delight.

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-10.jpg (968x1530, 781K)

Without so much as a "Continued in.." the books happened. And we already get the explanation of what went down, so there's no point in hunting it up. Honestly Image, where was your collective HEAD at?

Big tits for "a little girl"

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-11.jpg (962x1522, 777K)

Modern decompression asks customers to wait a month for a piece of a story, typically in which nothing of substance happens, instead of a complete tale. Trade writing is just foolish unless you're doing a mini, because most people will decide that hitting up their Netflix subscription or reading a book is much more worth their time and money. And frankly, they'd be correct.

Turns out Freedom Fighters does take place on Morrison's Earth X as a base, but Vendetti did retcon stuff.
It had an All-Star remake in it

I need to get back to reading some books

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-12.jpg (965x1526, 827K)

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-13.jpg (947x1511, 641K)

Same. I started strong this year, but started dragging ass on actual proper books. Doing okay on comics, tho, cleared my stack of those.

Started into a Pierre Berton.

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-15.jpg (976x1521, 761K)

why is DC publishing it at all

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-16.jpg (967x1525, 629K)

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-17.jpg (982x1530, 756K)

evil sexy makeover!

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-18.jpg (969x1529, 547K)

Didio loves his Freedom Fighters, and he's literally Publisher.
Sells so bad the trade's been cancelled though

Not but he created lost world of Warlord where pants are optional.

>Jonah Hex is guaranteed
I'm not complaining but where is this Jonah push coming from? Why is it spinning out of those Walmart books? And why am I just now hearing about it?

I believe Warlord is on the DC Unlimited thing because a friend has been discovering it and loving the lack of pants

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-19.jpg (958x1513, 778K)

I would be shocked if it was because it isn't on comixology yet. They would want to sell that first.

>name's the Albino
>friends call me Al
seems like a cool guy

Jonah was in Bendis' Wal-Mart story and Jinny Hex in YJ is Jonah's descendant

I think they mean that since YJ has "Jinny Hex", Bendis' OC, they're guaranteed to tackle Jonah at some point

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-2021.jpg (1978x1526, 1.13M)

>tfw you want to shill for games you like, but everyone is currently sick of your shit

>evil=black clothing
This comic could not be more 90s. When do they start skateboarding?

Player 2 colours adding fishnets is a nice touch.

Burnout and Grunge did a few issues ago. Also they beat a villain with Burnout's awful guitar playing.

that reminds me I do need to get back to my DA2 trash run, which has been enjoyable

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-22.jpg (980x1530, 699K)

>Neuro-dominator

Hot.

there has to be a Chris Claremont character with that as her explicit description, right?

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-23.jpg (977x1528, 725K)

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-24.jpg (978x1520, 723K)

thanks for reading

maybe late show tomorrow? if not, Monday

Attached: Gen13 (1996) 08-25.jpg (966x1532, 498K)

based Bobby fan

Well, Claremont did write DV8, didn't he?

thanks OP,most fun storytime of the day for sure

he wrote the worst Gen13, he sucks

Oh yeah. Somehow forgot about that. Fuck.

You were saying a few days ago how RPGs have to be designed certain way. That they can't have important characters be expendable, but also have to allow for players not caring about them/actively disliking them. I dunno, just found that interesting, cause it's true, and I never thought of that. Kinda makes RPG stories hard to make.

I can't wait for Marvel Comics #1001

Thanks for running OP.

Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.

... I think I'm being too hard on this series. Dumb and pandering it may be, but malicious it is not.

Caitlin is best girl, by the way. I legit like her a lot.

There's also RoboHex in Super Sons and Jonah met Wonder Woman in another Walmart book.

I mean, I'm not going to fight that. He murdered the shit out of Exiles too.

There's a strong argument for him utterly collapsing as a writer after the 80s.

There's a lot of no pants to love.

Attached: Warlord_010.jpg (908x1344, 165K)

It's fascinating to see how good RPGs have to be flexible to accommodate a very wide range of player reactions, because I have a negative reaction, even when I really like a particular character, to feeling like the game itself wants me to like them that bit too much

I love you Gen-13 user please be safe

Which is a huge problem because obviously most writers want the audience to like their characters, and want to show off as many of their positive traits as possible. However, while it's important for characters to have flaws, one likely wants to avoid the player hating them for showing too many negative qualities. So is the solution to present the characters with neutral, possibly even ambivalent framing?

The best you can do is make them interesting but give the PC a wide range of possible reactions to them so people don't feel like "Ugh, this character is shoved at me and I can't tell them to fuck off or even argue effectively against them". I admire writers who go for strong personalities who can be difficult and not immediately ingratiating.

Cranky's never read Sandman because he "knows" it's just about emo goth kids and pixie dream girls

>go talk to WB/ATT about your Batman
>get kicked off Batman not long after

I now really really want to know where he was going with the book and ~changing Batman forever~.

And hey he loved Undertale in spite of its reputation and fanbase, maybe it's time for him to try some Sandman

>my two favorite characters met and I didn't hear about it
Why they don't release that stuff digitally/in-store but instead hold it off for reprinting later is beyond me
