This is true. Blue admitted they fucked up, Yellow wised up, even White was able to admit she didn't know what the fuck was going on. Lapis admitted fault plenty of times too, but Star is presented as doing the right thing so the show will never make her say sorry (and doubly so now that the show's over).

and all that was done in the most lazy, rushed way, a line per character at the last minute instead of seeing how they are affected.

It needed more time for sure but the emotional core of it and the character dynamics was what helped it work in spite of that. Star has neither. It was rushed and also fell flat.

We already know the plot of the movie and when it takes place. There was a prologue comic released shortly after it was announced.

Star or Steven? Cuz Star killed the magic and Steven saved the corrupted gems and healed them respectively.

In the history of Star's hometown Mewni, monsters and Mewmans are enemies. Star is an alien girl who gets transported from Mewni to Earth. Her monster archnemesis Ludo tries to steal her magic wand but fails. A monster named Toffee teams up with Ludo only for Ludo to lose everything he has. Toffee captures Star's best friend Marco to force Star to destroy the royal wand. It works, and he disappears. Fast forward to season 2, Toffee possesses Ludo in order to get revenge on Mewni and destroy magic altogether. This makes Star go back to Mewni. He gets defeated by Star and dies. Toffee believed that magic is terrible and should be destroyed. Star eventually after season 4 agrees with Toffee after she has to deal with her mother betraying Mewni to get rid of monsters. Star's idea is to destroy magic, just like Toffee attempted to do. After seeing a future tapestry, she regrets trying to destroy magic since her best friend (now boyfriend) will be sent back to Earth. She still does it anyway, and destroys magic as well as kill every person who is or has possession of magic all in the name of love.

tldr: Star destroyed magic and didn't give a shit about killing magical beings because she wanted to fuck her best friend.
