What are your favorite independent comic series? Any publishers you think should be more widely read?

nuWitchblade is shit. Frankly, so was oldWitchblade, but there was a brief period where it was good.

> so was oldWitchblade, but there was a brief period where it was good.
The Ron Marz run (80-150 + tie ins & events) wasn't brief and was fantastic.

And the rest of the series wasn't ever worse then simply meh. It was never full on bad.

1st half of The Wake is phenomenal. It's pure bleak claustrophobia horror.
2nd half is good but not up to the first half, it's Max Max in the sea like Waterworld but better.
Thankfully the 2 halves are pretty standalone and so the 2nd half doesn't diminish the first half at all.

Series desperately needs to be made into a 2 part movie series.

The start of Marz' run was good. Then War of the Witchblades onwards it went downhill. not as bad as it used to be or became, but definitely worse. Then the Artifacts crossover made it shit the bed entirely. Marz' second go at it was even worse.

I am still pissed they canceled the Darkness Falls mini series with Sejic.

Comfy Witchblade thread from a few days ago.

I've heard good things about TKO so I picked up pic related and 7 Deadly Sins.
Haven't read them yet though, but it's an Ennis war comic so it can't be bad.

Cancelation always seems to hit me harder with indies.

or the all too common indefinite hiatus.

Making the change to webcomics killed Girl Genius, unfortunately. It takes way too goddamn long for anything interesting to happen.

Artifacts was great through

Sejic just made a patreon to fun the finishing of a bunch of his stories that got cut short. Doing Death Vigil first, then Switch and Ravine

Gold Digger is great, the only problem is that it's nigh impossible to get any physical copies.

The Wrong Earth has been pretty good. Season 1 just wrapped up and I think it comes back next year. Ahoy in general seems solid.

Indies are shit. Nothing but pretentious creepy trash written by pretentious creepy weirdoes sitting in their basement using their sweat as ink.

hey guys I am a total whore for interconnected cape shit universes
Give me a third party to read that isn't Valiant.

this
Indie comics are just for people too bad to make it Big 2, people with undigestible politics that seeps into their work, and perverts.

Aspen universe for hot chicks
Top Cow universe pre reboot for hot chicks
Zenescope for hot chicks

pretty much everything but Marvel/DC and Valient is just for hot chicks.

Valiants turn to utter shit has been disappointing. They were great when they relaunched, and Lemire's Valiant/Bloodshot were easily the best shit being published market wide at the time, but since then they've gone to such lows.

Salvadora is nice salvadoracomic.com

Good thing I live in Czech Republic where I can pick from dozens of publishing houses instead of having to suck up to decades old oligopoly or be wierd enough for some small press artsy fags whio live off grant dosh instead of sales.

>Season 1 just wrapped up
Why the fuck is everything a "season" now?

C O P R A

this was fucking excellent (I don't know if its "indie" enough though)

So indie just means non big 2 to you newfags?

Image, Boom!, IDW, Valiant... None of these are indie.

Only webcomics are independent.

What's a good starting point for Aspen?

I love this stupid series. My introduction was the MTV animation (crap), then I bought in right around the Iago arc.

Self-aware psychedelic adventure, with an Evangelion capstone (“we’re getting cancelled, so here’s all of the characters explaining their motives and themes.”)

Still fun. Will repeat.

Any other good works by Sejic? I got started with Sunstone BDSM from /u/...

Forgive them, the American industry is a trashfire right now.

He's the artist for Dan Abnett's Aquaman.

Lastly, submitted for the approval of the midnight society, Omar Dogan’s 5th Capsule.

It’s a comedy-of-errors relationship drama on a colonized new planet with clear parallels to today’s societies. I really wish there was one genre savvy character to ask, “What’s going on here?” before having a big breakdown (break-up), but Omar never fails to deliver pretty girls and guys and cars and some subtle social commentary.

Volume 1? Because last I checked, there were multiple Fathom 1's.

yes, Volume 1 #1. It's one of Micheal Turner's greatest successes.

What happened in the new Aquaman run?

you're normal, usurping new ruler. One of the best Rebirth books desu

*Strains memory*
It starts with the main char Julie, who has this homeless dude she helps sometimes, Dave, hang out in her apt. Also, Dave is The Maxx, a puncher-class superhero. Julie is having none of his superhero nonsense.

The antagonist is serial rapist Mr. Gone, who was also a friend of Julie's family growing up. (I usually hate rape and SA as plot devices, but it's not explicit here, which I appreciate.) Mr. Gone showed her The Outback in her youth, which is a shared subconcious dreamworld he can travel through and manipulate after learning of it on his physical travels through the Australian outback.

Then the plot shifts to Sara(h), and the new Maxx, and Iago the Murder Slug, and Mr. Gone is back under his original name and no one really confronts him on the whole serial rapist deal. Everyone comes together and shares their stories giving some heavy-handed exposition as they explain the plot.

The End.
