They made an actually good movie.
He's next.
WE HAVE THIS THREAD EVERY DAY
>15 years
Isn't it 10?
Robert Downey Jr mostly.
Because AAA blockbuster movies have a much bigger audience than comics and Capcom fighting games.
He's not though. He's the most popular actor
He got a push in comicbooks by the time of civil war.
This is the power of taking a chance over recycling the same Superman, Batman, the X-Men and Spider-Man over and over again.
In movies he's definitely up there. In comics and gaming... well...
Movies are all anyone actually cares about, so he's right.
>Went from Marvel's most popular hero to a poor man's Ironman
How did they do it, bros?
>Still can't get a decent writer
I mean come on, there's got to be at least one good writer who wants a crack at him because of the movies.
Popularity is just a measure of how far it's penetrated the public consciousness.
Good writers wouldn't work at current day Marvel in the first place.
He already was a pretty popular character in comics, with ongoings in every decade and even animated show.
Because he kicked off the MCU hyped train with a good movie, and even though the sequels were muddy, they had a solid arc going forwards.
A slew of shitty movies and then getting introduced to the MCU too late.
superior tech
NANOMACHINES, SON
By deporting all the Marvel Comics people off the exclusive MCU table at the cafeteria.
Why not Iron Fist? Who likes this guy?
>we will never get endo syn armor
Should have upgraded to after IW to this
Eh, what’s the point without the delicious Superony persona?
Still was B-lister, most people knew him but didn;t care.
>syn
glad his character died.
Because they wasted Iron Fist on that shit Netflix series. Shang Chi is your next best thing since they don't have any other de facto kungfu heroes. Also they're gonna make the Mandarin his father.
They blew their load with that dumb Netflix show. Blame Jeph Loeb for getting dibs on him.
>B list
When was ironman b list? He was always a big name. I mean who was the marvel A list before him? Spiderman, X-Men and hulk?
See
Is he really a B lister? Nigga has always been one of the Avenger's founding member. He was not the center but he would always stand around in the spotlight
That's what it means to be a B lister. He wasn't a literal who like the Guardians, but he was also nobody's favorite superhero
Sony, that's how.
>nobody's favorite superhero
Him and strange were mine since I was a kid -_-
By ignoring every other character and prioritizing Iron Man and Tony Stark.
>I was a kid in 2008
Fuck off
Patrician taste. I didn't like Strange as a kid, though. I thought of his comics as too dark and serious for me
>Emoticon
Kill yourself
x-men and spider-man's cartoons lasted 8 season. ironman got two. Most marvel related products pre-MCU usually consisted of spider-man/wolverine/ and hulk.
It's a shame. Also EMH should have gotten more without Loeb's meddling.
2000. Meanie.
>to The World's most popular Superhero
No
Sadly we may soon be seeing the end of that as we go back to the wall-to-wall Spiderman and Wolverine Show.
Who gives a shit, it isn't canon anyways, just recast it
Avengers were B list back in the day, Xmen were A list
>gaming
only capeshit games that get made that's worth a shit is batman and spiderman. Everything else is just crossovers or mediocre ios tier shit
Remember when Thor wasn't even in MvC2?
Spiderman
Magneto
Wolverine
Cyclops
Gambit
maybe the F4
>B-Lister
user, he was a D-Lister at best.
>coolness factor
>doesn't really have superpowers, he's just really smart
>RDJ's performance(or rather his actual personality)
>Avengers
user, before the MCU, The Avengers were c-list team.
No one outside of comic fans cared and the top Marvel team was the X-Men.
>iron man a b lister
Wasn’t he an A lister for years?
It's basically just RDJ anyways.
Sym, autist
What does it stand for anyways?
>Who likes this guy?
People that actually read the comic from the 70's.
I don't expect them to get him right though.
>RDJ's performance(or rather his actual personality)
I think if they'd gone with Tony's actual personality at that point in canon, they won't have made the billion bars of gold they did.
>makes more than Justice League
How did THEY do it bros?
Over Iron Fist?
Symbiote?
Alcoholic playboy? Just Jack Sparrow in an Iron Man suit, people would eat it up
Don't sell him too short, aside from maybe Black Panther he's the most popular character coming from this "new wave" of movies
Seems obvious, I thought it was system
What about endo?
BvS ruined any chances of anyone giving a shit
CGI that wasn't rendered on something more powerful than an Xbox 360 helped.
To be fair, they were adapting Civil War which Thor played a very minimal part in
Endo is the opposite of exo. It basically just means "internal".
good movie plus relevant themes and powers
Could Star-Lord eclipse Han Solo as the lovable space rouge in the eyes of young boys, or has he already? Maybe Disney killed him off as they figured Quill could fill the void in pop culture.
>just recast it
a simple recasting isn't enough. Iron Fist needs a full reboot, same with Luke Cage.
Reboot and recast, Netflix shows aren't canon and I doubt anyone watched it remembers iron fist or Luke cagw
It's not internal though, the liquid metal is always outside him. He dosent even keep it inside his body like bleeding edge
Keep in mind that we have already have 2 out of 3 movies of Disney's Star Wars trilogy already and theres still ZERO likeable characters in it. And absolutely no memorable adventures, planets/areas visited as well.
While GOTG is insanely more fun to watch as a space movie with many likeable characters and memorable moments.
We can only hope that after the two year waiting period and after Fiege starts reintroducing Fantastic Four and X-Men, he gives us a proper Iron Fist and Kun-Lun, and then a proper Power Man and Iron Fist movie with Heroes for Hire with Misty and Colleen done right as well. Having Wolverine and Iron Fist team up would also be awesome as well.
I think these characters are just too big to be wasted on television and then never touched again.
No wonder moot left for Reddit.
I kinda like Kylo Ren. But he's not good enough not carry the franchise.
no, Iron Fist has always been the bigger one and Shang-Chi (despite having a well regarded Master of Kung Fu run) for years was relegated to a Blade-tier peripheral character who stayed in his own niche realm and popped up from time to time.
He's picked since he's Marvel's most prominent solo Asian hero and Jeph Loeb wasted Iron Fist on Netflix.
Kylo ren is a skinny Jew nosed bitch who apes his grandfather badly.
Who?
No, the more serious tone of the 616. He's somber more often than not even though he is an alcoholic. Downey felt like a graduated frat boy. Which I also loved. But 616 was more Hannibal without the cannibalism (or maybe that's Doom).
I liked Ren until he took off the mask
Hiroshimoots daddy.
>He's picked since he's Marvel's most prominent solo Asian hero
What about Amadeus Cho?
>who apes his grandfather badly.
That's the point. He's the highschool edgelord who's power fantasy came true. But instead of changing his personality he's still just a whiny bitch who tries to look cool but throws temper tantrums when things don't go his way. He's great because he's a little pathetic.
But what about his giant schnoz? It is so big!
he's a supporting character at best, and is now a legacy character due to his Hulk status. I look at him the same way I look at Rick Jones.
I doubt Cho can carry his own movie franchise, but Shang-Chi has the backstory, supporting characters and villains to do so.
Hulk plus Cho would make a far better team up and has better recognition. I guarantee Shang Chi will fail in China too even if they stack it with Chinese actors.
>I guarantee Shang Chi will fail in China too even if they stack it with Chinese actors.
why? They will do Shang-Chi justice and this isn't another Crazy Rich Asians scenario. Shang-Chi will be more like an action hero (think Bruce Lee meets James Bond).
Marvel + Asian hero = big international success
>Hulk plus Cho would make a far better team up
well Hulk isn't getting a solo movie because there's a legal situation with Universal
>and has better recognition
Who recognizes Amadeus Cho? Shang-Chi has been around since the 70s and at least has a well recieved run that shows that he can work as a star. Fiege already proved he can turn GotG, Black Panther, Doctor Strange into hits, why not Shang?
She-Hulk & Brawn /ss/ team up when?
China does not care about America style martial arts, it's way too slow. CGI or gun fights they'll watch.
Everyone knows Hulk, team up movie with Cho. Nobody knows about Shang or his villains.
They are relating him to the Mandarin and the 10 rings.
He doesn't have superpowers that make him very important for taking into consideration what he'll do in the future in relation to future movies like Iron Fist. Nor does he have as interesting of an origin story and an association with a location like K'un L'un like Iron Fist which they might not be ready to bring up yet.
How toyetic Iron Man and some characters related to him is likely a significant reason why a cartoon was made.
So Iron Man, Thor, and Cap were Marvel's Big Three long before the films, right? Why? Why did they specifically end up being Marvel's Trinity.
Certainly wasn't because of any good comic books. The current Iron Man run is horribly boring.
Marvel's orginal trilogy was F4, Spiderman, and X-Men. Capt, Thor, and Iron Man were C list originally
His current popularity will likely wane as time goes on and RDJ is out of the MCU. He's what made him popular, as honestly, he doesn't have much in common with the comic Tony Stark.
The Avengers were at one point basically the B-Team. It was X-Men all the way for most people. Hell, at one point I honestly knew and cared more about fucking Alpha Flight (because they were in the X-Men cartoon and comics) than the Avengers.
MCU hulk got robbed
The contract with Netflix is such that they have to wait two years after cancellation before they can use those properties again.
not if they whitewash him
>The World's most popular Superhero
Spider-Man still exists so that's objectively not true.
Comic Tony is dry and boring as fuck and the movie came out shortly after Civil War, when he was at his worst.
Just turn Shang-Chi into a good version of Colective-Man:
en.wikipedia.org
He literally has the same power outside of kung-fu.
How come hulk is so popular but fucking noone saw incredible hulk?
Hulk movies tend to have a "problem" of too much Banner?
really this was a smart move to make iron fist irrelevant now because they needed to make a movie with an Asian MC
>Not finishing his trilogy
>Cancelling the greatest Spider-Man show ever
>Making him Iron Boy
>Ignoring the source material
>Not having any of his main characters appear, No Harry, No MJ, No Gwen, No Uncle Ben
>Turning Flash Thompson into an indian midget
kung-fu isn't a fucking power.
Hulk isn't that popular really
RDJ.
says who?
It is in 616
he really did, not in this movie but the movie previously when he got knocked out by thanos.
everyone? His movies flop, his stories just aren't that interesting, and even in universe he isn't that well liked. At this point fucking Red Hulk is probably more popular
Here's to hoping that rumour of Osborne buying the Avengers tower is true and then Harry appears. And I really hope they have Peter grow up as the films move along, become more confident and having really biting sarcasm/dry humour. He can only be the 'Oh man, oh gee whiz!' child with little confidence for so long before it becomes stale and annoying. Hell, it already is becoming annoying. I only hope Holland can pull off a more adult, confident young man rather than a awkward child in later films.
>gives him Miles best friend.
He's the only to be able to sell a movie no matter how shit it is as seen with IM2 & 3. Batman and Superman collapsed after just one outright bad movie and even them and the rest of JL barely beats IM2.
They stole Miles' Ganke Lee and made him Ned Leeds.
>When was ironman b list?
>literally the only reason t h ey made a movie of him was because sony had all of their big names
>durr iron man was b list??
they were always seen as the Big 3 of Avengers, but Spidey, X-Men and FF4 and to a lesser extent Hulk were all bigger names.
It's Marvel's job to sell Shang-Chi to the general audience, and they will probably make him popular again like Winter Solder made Captain America.
just watch.
Sjw marvel doesn’t allow white male heroes to be mature
They either want to replace them or turn them into losers
I dont think it'll wane. He's the face of a whole era of MCU.
>to make iron fist irrelevant now
Iron Fist will probably get rebooted eventually. He's too much of a big part of Marvel Universe to be wasted on TV and Kun Lun is its own set of lore.
>The Netflix Marvel shows happen in Dimension 618! says Marvel movie spokesman guy
easy fix
captian america isn't as obscure as shang chi. He's lesser known than the GotG and has zero interesting features that they do.
I would say it's due to the rise of Asian audiences for superhero movies. They love Ironman because he's a flashy hi-tech hero, as opposed to someone like Wolverine or Spiderman.
>He's lesser known than the GotG and has zero interesting features that they do.
now he is, but Shang-Chi had a more prominent (despite C/D list status) role in the Marvel Universe than GotG. He continually pop up in Heroes for Hire or Marvel Event books.
>zero interesting features
Have you ever read Master of Kung Fu? Shang-Chi has a lot of appeal as a espionage/martial arts genre character, and he has a lot of cool 70s Bruce Lee tier villains like Ghost Maker, Razor Fist, Shadow Slasher, etc.
I personally would've preferred Iron Fist in the movies and Shang-Chi on TV/Netflix, but this going to be a cool tapping into 70s martial arts genre with a modern twist that will be popular amongst normies, especially if they get the fight scenes right.
Eternals is way riskier of a property.
I wouldn't say that's solely limited to Asian audiences tho. Iron Man's powers and suits and persona resonate very well in the age we live in of high, rapidly changing technology. It's no surprise he took off hard now compared to other eras.
They fucked it up. It's unclear if they can reboot him and make it work.
Didn't Loeb make that great Avengers cartoon widely loved here, EMH? Shame.
asians love spiderman, he inspired kamen rider
>Eternals is way riskier of a property.
Inhumans failed. Now it's Eternals turn.
I’m from Brazil and was a fan of Iron Man since the 90s thanks to the cartoon and also bought comics back them (Iron Man meets Merlin and King Arthur).
>new fags think iron man was always popular
LMAO he wasn't even B-List. Straight C-List
When the movie was announced, Iron Man hadn't seen mainstream popularity since the mid-80s and was primarily known to non-comic readers from his cartoon series and popping up in several of the Capcom fighting games.
RDJ gave him more of a classic smartass but unstable/vulnerable Stark personality rather than Civil War character trashing, updated it and made it magic.
Also, the mech suit and high flying inventor thing worked well.
Christopher Yost made the first season and Loeb took over after Yost left. Then Yost returned for the last few. Loeb episodes were duds.
Oh that's right, Loeb did the following series that wasn't as good, didn't he?
It was a hard read but I love 616 Tony. Grieving Stark is a beautiful and painful mess. More than the MCU. In a way I'm thankful Tony wasn't that close to MCU Cap even if it was easy to see how much Steve/Evans loved him. An eulogy given by Steve would have gutted me and they spared us of that.
MCU Tony has enough of the core aspects of 616 Tony (maybe even more so post-CACW) that he still has the essence intact. MCU chose a trait or two and focused on them (ie the quipping) which ended up working in their favor because of RDJ's charisma and charm.
Honestly, Civil War had a solid foundation to me (Tony is trying to avoid Wideawake, Cap doesn’t understand) but it sorta veered into dumbass misunderstandings gone too far territory.
However, the confession and Tony’s Cap grief was some kino. MCU really missed out on some heartstring tugging by never properly making them BFFs.
2008 was a memorable year for robots and power armor. In just that year we also had transformers and Fallout
Because Shang Chi being Asian = gook bread
>forgetting WALL-E
Already has. Kids don't give a fuck about Han Solo.
>to The World's most popular Superhero
He's Batman?
they tried that with Donnie Yen in Star Wars. Didn't work
RDJ but honestly it's all Iron Man has going for him. In a decade or so he'll be irrelevant again.
You're an idiot
I suppose you belive good writers are over at DC....
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
People keep saying that as if both Spider-Man and Batman weren't still more popular despite their shit movie outings.
>company war cancer
user never said DC had good writers either.
>People
It's just a single user who keeps making these threads.
>Not finishing his trilogy
No, that got finished. Don't pretend the Amazing movies were good at all.
>>Cancelling the greatest Spider-Man show ever
I'm still mad.
Shape changing armor is just another excuse to CGI everything. It leads to lazy writing.
>Shang-chi will be more popular than Iron-Fist
I am okay with this.
>Donnie Yen is too old to play him
I am not okay with this.
Better die a hero than live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Can't tell if bait.
Mahvel back them was riding on Xman cartoon popularity.
Only reason that more characters popped is because MSH adapted infinite gauntlet. Albeit this still don't explain shuma gorath.
They still feel like 2 different people. But I actually like it that way. I don’t quite like Downey Stark seeping into the 616 though. It feels like lazy writing.
Their offscreen chemistry could have been shown in the movies or at least a “Caps day out” kind of buddy buddy MCU short with Tony.
>"No one liked who I was when I took off the mask."
>I am okay with this.
I'm not. Iron Fist deserves to be famous first. He has cooler lore and powers. When was the last time Shang-Chi was even relevant?
