Are the 2010s the Decade of Disappointment?

Only if you forgot about how disappointing the 00s were.
Jace Walker
you think its bad now? people in the 00s said the same thing, and the 90s before that, and so on. its all downhill from here
Christian Harris
It's the decade of high starts and low ends, I'll give it that. MLP has pretty much been the poster child for cartoons in this decade. A silly show that started to take itself too seriously, as a replacement showrunner desperately tries to push her misguided views across.
Dominic Roberts
Yep, it's an age of creators wanting more out of cartoons only to be shot down by the mindsets of execs.
Owen Cooper
I thought it was better than the mid 2000s to an extent.
Jose Torres
>Are the 2010s the Decade of Disappointment?
No fucking shit, what was your first clue? The Star Wars sequels? Adventure time, Star vs, gravity falls, samurai jacks, and green lantern the animated series endings? The complete downgrade of animation being witnessed in the past few years after a strong attempt to rebirth it? Mediocre marvel movies and other capeshit overtaking cinema and lessoning it as a result?
Easton Long
Jasperdemptionseason6 will save animation
David Morris
>The complete downgrade of animation being witnessed in the past few years after a strong attempt to rebirth it? Mediocre marvel movies
I think the second point is just your personal preference.
Camden Lopez
It can, but they have to NAIL it...
Logan Lee
It's a decade built by writers who are too conscious of their audience, and so rather than creating genuinely good stories, they kneecap the shows/films/whatever they're working on to 'subvert' your expectations.
Social media and the internet caused this, but I like to think we're just in an adolescent phase, and in the coming years people will stop giving a shit if what they're making is 'predictable' or 'cliche,' and instead simply aim to make something quality.
Luis Hall
>I think the second point is just your personal preference.
We started off with adventure time and other TV-PG shows leading the way for a more varied and mature intiviative for animation, what we are left with is TV-G level shit for babies getting made now with little exceptions being panderous to feminists or ship bait. I’d say it’s pretty accurate.
Julian Bennett
They want to avoid being predicted by fans so badly that they genuinely create shit instead, to surprise them.
Sometimes... Doing what people were expecting is a GOOD thing. Because often times, people expect things to be good.
Jaxson Nelson
I was referring to the movies. I don't think they are masterpieces but I don't think of them as disappointments
Camden Gonzalez
they're the only decade you're not nostalgic for, you vacant zoomer
Gabriel Campbell
Well i got greenligted for my show for the 2020's which will be animated.
So I think there is hope for cartoons and animation.
Liam Scott
Good point there. People guessed who the author was, so Hirsch felt the need to be sly and fake a leak. Then he had to waste an episode debunking the leak he'd created. With MLP, they wasted an episode shitting on critics and I think there's a few episodes of TT:Go dedicated to shitting on critics. We can expect an episode like this, if Thundercats Roar comes out.
Nathaniel Price
The problem is with the internet and social media in general, EVERYTHING will be predicted, so there's no point. Everyone guessed months ago that 'character X' is the bad guy? Who cares. Write what makes sense. Write for the people who will come to watch your show years from now. Not for the people who are creating speculation on Twitter.

I wish you the best of luck user, but remember this:
Don’t make art for someone else, make it for you.
Benjamin Torres
>I was referring to the movies. I don't think they are masterpieces but I don't think of them as disappointments
Oh, I personally dislike most of the MCU and think it has done more harm then good, but a lot of movies have sucked this decade so it’s not (completely) their fault but also the time period we are in. Just look at 2016 ghostbusters and Star Wars to see what I mean.
Ryder Rivera
More or less. The DS9 effect streaming and binging has had on serialized storytelling pushes everyone to try to set things up, but there have only actually been a handful of people working in cartoons with the writing talent to deliver a satisfying ending to a setup and even stuff like Last Airbender and Venture Bros. have had their low points.
In addition to the streaming and binging effects on media in general, cartoons also took a massive hit to credibility when Adventure Time turned into a ship-by-committee relationship show instead of an autistic manchild's daydreams.
Logan White
I'm sure your parents think so.
They had hopes, but here you are.
Nicholas Anderson
>animation is no longer dominated by the contrarian writing and gross out humor of the 00's
>cartoons nowaday have streamlined designs that appeal to all demographics, more involved storylines and ambitious writing
the 10's are great. StarVS is the black sheep of this decade and this was true before season 3.
Jack Brooks
This. This is just the reality. There are plenty of shows I like and don't like because it's a freaking decade. Dozens of shows come and go. A great deal of shows end within 3 seasons too. At the end of the day, the only shows people will remember are the good ones, and when you get back to the machine that churns out content you get lambasted with the good and bad and then think back of the time where you conveniently have forgotten the awful shows and only remember the good.
Anthony Sanders
Yes. The internet became a commodity and social justice fags destroyed culture and discerning thought with their outrage and tokenism.
no. no, they didn't faggot. 90's and 00's were the age of creativity and free thought. people ridiculed sensitive progressive types and told corporations to go eat a dick. now we have mouse shills pushing reboots and blue-hair rugmunchers shoving lgbt bullshit down everyone's throats.
Daniel Walker
>contrarian writing
You kidding me? It's more contrarian than ever. If the original Avatar was made today, so much shit would be for the worst, since it'd be written specifically to counter the expectations of fans.
Austin Anderson
Hmmm let's see
>Adventure Time
>The Walking Dead franchise
>Star Vs
>Gumball
>Game of Thrones
>Star Wars
>Korra
>Marvel and DC comics
>Steven Universe
>Wreck It Ralph
>Illumination continues to churn out shit
>Dragons
>Fallout 76
>Diablo
>Wander Over Yonder got cancelled
>Gravity Falls and
>Close Enough never aired, TBS animation aborted like a wicked fetus
>South Park
>Toy Story
Yep, this decade was a clusterfuck. Everything that could go wrong went wrong with all of these franchises. The only thing that barely made it by without collapsing was the MCU, but Captain Marvel sure didn't make it easy.
Charles Jackson
Imagine being this retarded. Animation now is all just watered down material for safe space itoddlers. Their hasn’t been a good cartoon in the past few years bar one or two exceptions.
Jaxson Carter
I hated the 00s back then and that’s only made me hate this decade even more. It was supposed to be better goddamnit
Nathan Foster
everyone thinking the 10s are bad, maybe kys and see if you respawn during the 80s or something, but please stop being mad at the best objective cartoon period
in 40 years ppl will be like "snif snif the 50s are so shitty can we get back to the 10s"
Brandon Long
>Then he had to waste an episode debunking the leak he'd created
i never got that out of it. i feel the episode would have aired whether or not the 'leak' happened
Sebastian Garcia
This.
Everything is so creatively bankrupt right now that capeshit is the gold standard.
Luis Campbell
Good lord. This isn't Twitter you retarded heathen.
Ryan Edwards
It felt too quick to have happened naturally. McGucket was proposed as the author of the journal, and debunked, in the same episode. Maybe this was time constraints, from Hirsch having not wanted to do GF since season 1. But I felt that, if you weren't already expecting McGucket to be the author, you would have been confused by the episode.
Nathan Sanchez
>Their hasn’t been a good cartoon in the past few years
>except there was
also animation has been a watered down safespace for toddlers since fucking Yogi Bear, you cunt.
Joshua Watson
We haven’t had a good TV-PG shows in years, fuck off
Chase Bennett
sorry for having a brain, which is not exclusive to twitter
Nolan Murphy
Imagine being so much of a shit sniffing idiot that thinks the decade that brought us nonstop TTG marathons and post season 4 adventure time is a golden age of animation
Owen Torres
>sorry for having a brain
It mustn’t be a very good one if you’re spouting off idiotic opinions
Carter Richardson
SU is fine. Not as good as it was, but still watchable. The rest is whatever though Walking Dead seems to be objectively bad from what I've heard.
Christopher Wood
yeah but this decade also brought good shit, idk man, look
Carmen Sandiego
Hilda
mlp
Over the garden wall
Rick and Morty
...
What the fuck other decades had? Serious shit if you ask me. Old She-Ra was the worst, same goes for all the shitty GI Joe and other toy-selling american cartoons.
American animation as always been shit before the 10s, and the only great shows before that were at least part european or asian
Kayden Martinez
>TTG has access to one of the most recognizable roster of pop culture characters and is able to churn out episodes at a faster pace than most, and is the more successful reboot of a very popular cartoon.
>Adventure Time kickstarted the plot-centric story writing model that dominates cartoons today, changing the public view that cartoons were only vehicles for merchandising.
it is a golden age.
Josiah Wood
>MLP
No. Megan McCarthy drove that horse into the ground.
Caleb Long
Juan Young
Rick and morty is garbage, OTHW was only a miniseries, while every other show that started out good ended up being terrible in the end like Star vs, while we get unredeemable crap like reboot she ra or we bare bears to replace the shows that started off good earlier in the decade.
>fast food production episode quality of a show is better because muh quantity
It’s a dark age and shit like TTG has made it so
Luis Richardson
I never said that everything that came out this decade was garbage, but it seems that every major show that had promise completely blows it.
The closest thing I can compare it to is spilled popcorn, you had it in the bag and then you fucking dropped it.
Noah Cruz
>This decade will be over in 6 months
>the 90s are beginning to be 30 years old
>The 2000s 20 years old
Michael Green
>>This decade will be over in 6 months
Thank goodness
>>the 90s are beginning to be 30 years old
>>The 2000s 20 years old
Oh...oh no
John Cox
we're finally getting some of my favorite movies on blu-ray
Xavier Watson
>This decade will be over in 6 months
>the 90s are beginning to be 30 years old
>The 2000s 20 years old
N-no!
I'm not getting old, YOU'RE getting old!
Make it stop!
Nicholas Robinson
TTG is moving in the exact opposite direction of every other cartoon.
>TT had relationship drama and serialized plots
>TTG is DC Looney Tunes
I'm glad CN completely ignores the vocal minority of haters who expect their cartoons to be srs bsns.
Josiah Gomez
shut up losers, lol
Daniel Edwards
I don’t want everything to be lorebait, I want cartoons that are actually funny again, while this isnt
>I'm glad CN completely ignores the vocal minority of haters who expect their cartoons to be srs bsns.
Only a minority of retards like this low quality garbage, and CN will continue to suffer if they intend to keep pushing shit no one wants
Aiden Harris
Faustian horse show fell off hard after Hasbro realized the turbosperg fans would gobble up any shit they put in front of them. As great as the early seasons were, it becomes unwatchable eventually.
Nathan Jenkins
No? I mean his proposal is a bit fast but the real purpose is to establish McGucket’s relevance, show off the memory erasing mechanic, and push us closer to the author.
William White
>shit no one wants
Yeah, TTG is so unpopular it got a theatrical movie that made $40mil.
It's like that South Park episode where Stan starts seeing everything as shit. You're just too old to like actual cartoons anymore. TTG is a smash hit with CN's target demographic.
Nathan Thompson
>Yeah, TTG is so unpopular it got a theatrical movie that made $40mil.
That’s fucking chump change for a major animated movie
>It's like that South Park episode where Stan starts seeing everything as shit. You're just too old to like actual cartoons anymore. TTG is a smash hit with CN's target demographic.
Is that why ratings continue to drop for the channel? The shows comedy relies to hard on annoying songs and trying to strike back at critics, it never tries to actually improve and be funny on its own. It’s a show only contrarian faggots and drooling morons enjoy.
Alexander Ortiz
That sounds like your personal preference.
Jayden Russell
>literally "I'm gay and like faggot shit: the post"
Tyler Taylor
We got Thunderbirds, so no.
youtube.com
Landon Ward
It is better. It's just not as good as it could've been.
I think you've forgotten how bad the 00s really were. The 00s are the reason everyone has depression now.
Ayden Flores
This decade is vastly inferior then the 00s. At least in the 2000s radical feminism wasn’t poisoning nearly every and all franchises and media outlets.
Aiden Powell
Disappointing? Yeah sure, but it's far from the worst imo.
Luke Gray
Seriously, quit with The sjw conspiracy bullshit!
Jayden Turner
AGAIN! duck this I'm leaving..
Ian Collins
>AGAIN! duck this I'm leaving..
Kek, I like ducks too user. If you can’t handle the truth then fuck off
Dylan Myers
>the 90s are beginning to be 30 years old
>The 2000s 20 years
THE FUCK, HOW?
Isaac Scott
Jesus Christ I'm almost 30. What the fuck am I still doing here?
Noah Jenkins
I keep saying. Yea Forums is the Hotel California.
Brandon Peterson
I’m 23 and came here when I was 17
Jose Anderson
>you’re never too young for a Vietnam flashback
Benjamin Lewis
the ideal "jasperdemption" would be jasper explaining to steven that he's a fucking retard and the diamonds arent going to stop their conquering ways in a day just because "they promised"
Nathaniel Sullivan
Why would he expect it to be done in a day? He's not as naive as he was in the first season.
Aaron Clark
Rewriting history, faggot. The 90’s were a Renaissance and was acknowledged as such. The 00’s were rightfully mocked for being worse than the 90’s and the 10’s were rightfully mocked for being worse than the majority of the 00’s.
Jordan Wilson
I came here when I was 14 and now I'm 22.
Kevin Green
No, the 00s were fucking great
Jackie Chan Adventures
Kim Possible
Ben 10
Fairly OddParents
Mission hill
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Invader Zim
Samurai Jack
X-Men: Evolution
Teen Titans
Totally Spies!
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Grim & Evil
The Oblongs
My Life as a Teenage Robot
Xiaolin Showdown
Danny Phantom
Megas XLR
The Boondocks
The Secret Saturdays
The Spectacular Spider-Man
Nicholas James
Many of those had disapointing endings.
I mean did anyone even watch that dragon season of Jackie Chan? It seemed most stopped watching at the Japanese spirit season.
People STILL bitch about Kim getting with Ron.
Same goes for Aang pulling a loophole skill out of his ass to end Ozai.
Samurai Jack got tedious but WAS beloved enough for people to want a final season (which we got and people bitched about)
Danny Phantom got a weak ending, and most preferred his previous romance.
X-Men Evolution didn't even GET an ending. Just a setup for another season that never came.
Connor Hernandez
>I came here when I was 14 and now I'm 22.
You have my sincerest sympathy
Owen Lee
Who cares if the ending isn't as good as the rest of the show? Has objective criticism just died in the past few years or something, it seems to be all or nothing now.
Grayson Moore
I came here when I was 17 and now I'm 30.
Have fun you're here forever.
Mason Kelly
It was honestly the greatest learning experience in my life. Before I came here I was an autistic unaware fag. Here I was anonymous and allowed to make mistakes that I couldn't have on a normal site. I also got to see lots of different people, both based and faggy. I learned what being cool and normal was, and I also saw who was cringy and what not to be. You all on this board are unironically better parents than my actual parents. This site prevented me from being an actual mouth breathing retard, and I will always love it for that.
Gavin Bailey
Why does it matter how old you are?
Landon Wright
I am here since 2007 that was almost 12 years ago, cartoons have always been shit, and that's like the point of it, the issue now is that they put BIG BLACK on them.
Levi Cruz
>You all on this board are unironically better parents than my actual parents. This site prevented me from being an actual mouth breathing retard, and I will always love it for that.
That means more then you’ll ever know, and don’t worry user if you are on here then you’re already a mouth breathing retard
Justin Cooper
>and don’t worry user if you are on here then you’re already a mouth breathing retard
Yeah, you're probably right. This place really is better than most give it credit for though. I'd gladly stay here forever it it meant staying off the normal social media shit where you can't say shit because it's "hateful" or against some BS agenda narrative the media is pushing. 10 years here, 20 years here, whatever, I don't give a fuck and you all shouldn't either.
Jaxon Cooper
>Wander Over Yonder got cancelled
>canceling mediocre show
it happens all the time
