I almost wish he'd go ringless again, although not the whole way since the ring is one of the iconic things and a power item on a normal human is part of the appeal. Give each of the main Lanterns something unique, like how Baz has the Emerald Sight, and give Hal the ability to use the willpower energy without a ring since he almost became a living construct, but only for a short while and make it very draining - he's a natural but he still needs the ring for proper focus and better millage. Or go full anime and make the ring his limiter, when it's on it regulates the power coursing through him and let's him use it without risking he'll start to turn into pure willpower again, but when he takes it off he can use enough power get close to his Parallax power level.

The GL movie was completely fine, as long as you watch the directors cut. The theatre version had half the key scenes removed, the movie made no sense, it kept referencing cut scenes.
