While I do agree with you (and I absolutely plan on skipping this shit too), this one is self-contained enough that you can read everything without missing the main story, since it's all tie-in books, not crossovers. Unlike War of the Realms, which is indeed a full blown, linewide crossover with tie-ins included that requires a guide.
And I'm pretty sure most of these tie-ins in Absolute Carnage can be safely skipped anyway.

Linewide events? Yes, for 18 months (they said so back then). This was after Secret Empire, which makes War of the Realms the first line-wide event since that one; friendly reminder CWII followed SE barely months later.
Infinity Wars and stuff like Damnation or the retarded symbiote series weren't linewide events.

No, the are moving aay from events like SE or CW2 with a main book and a tone of tie ins that derail almost every other book. The only reason WoTR is happening is that it was already in motion years before they wanted to make the switch and they couldn't come up with a new plan in time.

Now they are going for more of a Standoff approach where it's just a single story that is told through a series of issues and only impacts a handful of books.

Yes, according to Remender, marvel wanted him to cut down on symbiotes. Remender killed off Pat, Scream, and Hybrid, and Slott got rid of Anti-venom.

Marvel obviously went back on good decision pretty soon after when Zeb Wells did his 2 carnage minis, reviving Carnage and introducing Scorn and mercury team, not to mention Mania being created by Cullen Bunn soon after.
